    My Favourite Cuisine...

    That's a hard one.

Whilst I can't - despite being Scottish - stomach Haggis (I don't like the thought of it NGL) I do like a Fish & Chips. Not really "cuisine" but it is a proper food of the UK. (At least I didn't say Deep Fried Mars Bar...)

Thank you for not saying deep fried mars bar. Also I've heard that Haggis is popular in England, looks peculiar but I would like to give it a try.

You heard wrong. Not many people in England eat haggis. It’s a Scottish thing. I say ‘thing’ because you could hardly describe it as food.

I once bought a meat pie from a street vendor in Scotland and when I asked what meat was in it, the person selling it to me looked at me as if it was a trick question and replied “It’s just meat”. That was a very tasty pie though.

In the UK we have a thing called a steak and ale pie, which is a perfectly good steak pie that has been made to taste like stale beer. It’s very hard to get a steak pie in a British pub that isn’t a steak and ale pie. That drives me mad. My go-to pie nowadays is the meat and potato pie, which by law has to be labelled as a potato and meat pie because it has more potato than meat. Nobody calls it that though, it will always be meat ‘n’ potato. I can’t eat shepherd’s pie or cottage pie these days because they both give me terrible heartburn. I do like a pork pie but not the ones with the jelly in them. Unfortunately you can’t tell if it’s going to contain jelly until you cut or bite into it, so it’s a bit of a lottery.

So there you have it. I like British food, especially pies.

I eat Indian food every day, it never really gets boring. It's delicious, energetic and (usually) healthy. 2 Idlis and a Dosa paired with Sambar or a chutney can easily get you ready for the day. The food is incredibly diverse, the ones in the north are vastly different to the ones in the south and northeast. With that being said, I do love a good fish and chips, and English Breakfasts are quite amazing.

I love a good burger, but unfortunately all the places near us have tried to 'posh' up their burgers by using awful brioche buns instead of proper burger buns. They think they can charge more if they use 'artisan' bread, but I'd rather travel for a Five Guys!

My only experience of haggis was a sample at a Michelin-starred restaurant in Edinburgh on a work trip and it was surprisingly pleasant. I'm not sure how representative that is of 'normal' haggis, though. I've only tried a deep fried Mars bar once, but again, was pleasantly surprised by it. Maybe the Scots are on to something...

The UK is made up of 4 countries: England, Scotland, Wales and (Northern Ireland?). England and Scotland, whilst sharing many similarities, are still different culturally, have different cuisines and in many other aspects. They aren't states, but rather countries. It's a very complex (and controversial) topic. Don't worry though, its a common misconception.

Please feel free to correct me, I'm not from Europe ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    *Immense pain*

    All correct;
Scotland, England and Wales are still Countries (NI isn't in the Country Club), but are all very different in Culture, Language and such.

I can’t say I have a favourite type of food, I love foods from all the cuisines you’ve listed (even British - roast dinner, fish and chips at the seaside anyone?) but there are some foods in each that I like better than others.

    And Cornish.

I like a comment I heard about haggis (not sure if it's a famous quote or what), "There's not much better than a good haggis- and not much worse than a bad one". I'm sure the same may be said about many foods. I've not tried haggis but, by the same token, steak and kidney pie doesn't sound too appealing- good eating though.

Please- the last native Cornish speaker is thought to have died in the 18th Century. Cornish is a dead language being revived as an academic and cultural exercise. That is certainly not to dismiss such an exercise, on the contrary it's quite laudable, but to claim parity with Welsh or Gaelic and demand things like bilingual signs and road markings is just daft. There are hundreds of thousands of people who speak Welsh as their first or only language while the few who speak Cornish are learning it while already speaking English.

No oil on the fire from me I was just pointing out mainly for the mods the pretty pathetic tactic earlier from a Scottish member

Political comments are not to be mentioned on this forum apparently so it would be reasonable to assume that goes for underhanded ones as well???

If you want to try and paint me out as anti-english, go ahead. I'm not, never have been, never will be.

You want to say I'm using sly tactics to slam England? Keep going, wasn't my intention.

    Good day to you.
    :)

P.S. got to love the point being made of my nationality :)

The original topic may now return.

If we can avoid straying into excesses of nationalistic fervor, that'd be great.
