Love the new route so far, but the inaccuracy of the plane ruined "mah immersion" xD

I'm honestly surprised that they didn't bother at least making a somewhat proper-looking plane.

(totally not a small and minor nitpick LOL)

It is a small and minor nitpick considering this is a train sim, but dammit I would be lying if I said it didn't slightly annoy me as well :D

The reasoning, as far as I'm aware, is that if they moved the engines further up the wing and closer to the fuselage, it'll start to vaguely look like any other twin engine widebody jet, and that runs the risk of copyright infringement.
I, for one, would heavily doubt that Boeing or Airbus would even bother, but given that this was brought up with the Koln-Aachen route and their response was that it was intentionally modeled this way...well, this is the most reasonable sounding explanation to me.

Or maybe...just maybe, DTG found another way to increase jet fuel efficiency :D

Maybe its some weird prediction. Remember the 800s were in the original Train Simulator long before they ventured out onto the main line. Maybe this is a weird prediction of where twin engine jets are developing to.

They said on stream that with TS they actually got a big aircraft manufacturer knocking on their door - which is ridiculous of the manufacturers. But if the manufacturers are like that, that seems the only option for a plane we can get at the moment, until it is modded or DTG can get a license :( So it seems to be completely intentional and like that for a reason.

Huh, wouldn't have thought that there would be complaints over a plane looking too similar to the manufacturers - considering that almost every airplane looks similar to each other in some form or another xD

Alas, I suppose I'll just have to avoid looking up when at Gatwick :D

I find it quite off-putting too, not just at Gatwick but on all the routes where they feature.

Perhaps they should have modelled a Comet or VC10 landing…

    You mean this?
This was after the Intercity Express Programme was announced, so we knew it was coming and I think this was based on early technical drawings.

Having said that, this CGI image is from 2009 so it's a bit like that game where you look at an image for 30 seconds then have to reproduce it from memory.

A major car manufacturer has given licence to this marvelous W201, so it might be easier to have a proper looking airplane than expected. ;););)

You'd think EasyJet would like the exposure.
I for one wouldn't get on a plane looking like that.
    Madness.

Matt posted in another thread that the main reason it doesn’t look exactly like any place is because of strict aviation licensing rules. But as mention above i look forward to it getting an overhaul in an upcoming mod (pc only).

So what about the static plane on the airfield in one of the Snowrunner Alaska maps (think it's White Valley)? At least it actually resembles something that could fly!

I believe that British licensing laws are much more tricky than American for example. I am by no means an expert on this field, but I got the feeling from what was said on multiple streams that if DTG was based in the US or probably even somewhere else in Europe, some things would be easier for them to do than they currently are. So in the end, this plane being like it is has it's reason(s), which are not incompetence or laziness, but based on information from people who actually know what they are doing (hopefully :D). And comparing DTG to for example Rockstar is like comparing apples to chairs ;)

Yes, licences are an issue, but this sound like a cheap excuse. I am interested in this rules and might do some research.

I'm going to take a very close look at the cars, trucks, RV's and school buses in th US routes to make sure they don't resemble the real thing too accurately

Oi, Airbus, your A320 looks remarkably similar to a Boeing 737. It’s even got seats in rows and the pilot sits at the front. How did you get away with that? Dovetail can’t even draw a generic looking plane that looks a bit like both without getting into trouble and they aren’t even a competitor.

I don't really understand the excuse from dtg to be honest. They could just move the engines a bit. Are copyright laws that strict in the U.K?

We used to have a chocolate bar called a marathon. That was name changed as runners were offended they were likened to a melting cocoa product. I can see the issue with planes

It’s possible to create a generic aircraft without it having the engines at a place on a wing that no aircraft has. I always hating seeing this thing fly over on the Caltrain route as well as the Miata route in Train Simulator.

Initially posted this a as a joke complaint, but it's interesting to see everyone's perspective on this issue tbh
