I hate that I have to make another forum post talking negatively to skyhook. But I have found footage of people getting early access to the 187, and the sounds are literally just a copy and paste of the BR146.2. This is absolutely disappointing. I was so excited to get this cuz it looks great and would bring a lot of services to various routes. But after hearing the sounds, I have completely changed my mind. The 187 sounds nothing like a 146 irl. (I will link a video below of what it actually sounds like at the bottom of this thread) This is just completely disappointing. It makes me really worry what the ES44AC and GP38 are gonna sound like on horseshoe curve. They’re probably just gonna re-use the AC4400 sounds from Sand Patch Grade onto the ES44 which sounds almost nothing like an AC4400. Sounds are so crucial in a loco dlc. They need to be accurate if you want people to actually buy it. I get that there is a pandemic going on, but DTG has at least tried to get new sounds by resorting to getting help from the Audio Shack for NEC, and Armstrong Powerhouse for various UK DLC’s. Because of these re-used sounds, I will no longer be buying the 187 until it gets a sound update which is probably never. If you guys want to buy it, it’s your money. But most people can agree with me in saying this is not worth buying if it’s not even accurate. Here’s what the 187 sounds like in real life:
Skyhook should get in contact with TSG/Maik Göltz, let him do the sounds, then it is actually a DLC that could be considered for a purchase...
I hope that this is just a technical Issue. Otherwise Skyhook would have copied literally every sound from the 146/185 pre rush hour sound. Even the brake levers, the SIFA and PZB sounds are just copied. That would be quite impudent from skyhook. On the other side I don't understand that DTG didn't stop the release. It seems like they didn't tested the addon and just let skyhook do all the tests.
Sorry, but no. I'm not here to repair others stuff. I do that already for DTG and that is enough work for me. I have my own DLC to do. And only doing new sound is not that easy for a 187. The behaviour behind, the simulation at least, needs to fit this too, or i could not implement the correct sound. A TRAXX3 is way different to a TRAXX2. You have different inverter frequencies for accelerating and braking. That needs lots of work in the simulation too.
the db br 187 is more like a "can i copy you're Homework, but just dont make it obvious" type situation i think they just got the DB BR 185.2 removed the model shell of it. and stuck a 187 model on it. its kinda disappointing as this was a very anticipated loco addon
From Matt‘s comment on 3rd parties in another thread, 3rd parties can but are not obligated to show their work to the beta team. It‘s the beta team that would have called out the sounds, QA just checks if everythings works as intended - whatever intended is.
That policy is the reason why thses dic's from rivet and skyhook are released the way they are. QA clearly doesn't care since they apparently just have to make sure the dlc works with low standards it seems
Exactly, and to make matters worse, Jasper just brushes it under the carpet with “we’ve past it on to the development team to take a look at “
I definitely agree with what you said. The DB BR 187 is not worth it. I am asking people to not buy this loco
Yes, this sounds on DB BR 187 in TSW2 when? Soon? By the way DB BR 187 irl sounds a bit like DB BR 442 from TSW2.
No, that's what QA does. Anywhere, any software company. Issues like sounds are a matter for beta testing, not QA.
