Hi everyone! I'm posting this in the PC forum just because it's a place to post it - the request goes out to everyone. We are looking for your help to try and source the best SD70ACe sounds that we can find, we are unable to go and record it with Union Pacific and while we have some limited options open to us they'll take more time to get to the right experience than I'd like. If you can help us with recordings of SD70ACe's (not T4's) that would be very much appreciated - please do get in touch with me! Thank You! Matt Peddlesden Executive Producer, Train Sim World 2.
This is completely off-topic, and sorry for abusing this thread, but this post along with your threads on feedback for Dresden Riesa and London Brighton really call for a new section on the forums called "General discussions" - that has been asked for a lot before, and makes sense since there are a lot of cross-platform topics
Involving the community to create the best possible experience for the community. This is great to see And an approach I hope will continue to flourish moving forwards. Best wishes sourcing these sounds!
Do you mind if I post this request (or link to the post here) on reddit.com/r/trains? It has 71,000 members and presumably, many of them are American and possibly train professionals. TrainSim-Matt
I think it's best if you try get in touch with Searchlight Simulations about this since they've already got recordings from a SD70ACe locomotive.
The audio person from Searchlight Simulations has cut ties with DTG and will not work with them anymore.
Please feel free to cross post the request anywhere you feel it might gain some traction (motor sounds) :-D Thanks all! Matt.
Would be nice to get the updated sounds on an updated SD70V2 pack without the BNSF worldwide lockup, too...so please consider this as well.
hello to all and hello to matt if you are interested I can give you some better sounds for the TGV Duplex series 200
and if you are interested I can also give TGV sounds for the TGV réseau Tricourant version (4500) TrainSim-Matt
Do skyhook Games the same investigation regarding to NS ES44AC for Horseshoe curve? I hope, yes because community won't accept the third failure of third release
Why wasn’t this done by Rivet with the creation of those appalling 150 sounds? ASKING FOR HELP. I sent loads of videos off and a list of ‘must have’ Sound features and driving characteristics off to them, real life acceleration and braking, in cab sounds, videos of speedo, you even have me talking loudly to the flipping guard about how crazy loud the brake rub was in one video, and yet none of it has showed up in the game’s version and not once have any of us been asked for help or feedback with it. I’d happily have helped FOR FREE. They clearly are not up to the job themselves. Bet they’ve never even been on one. We are appalled. Matt - I really do think you’re genuinely passionate about the game and doing your best to make things better. I do commend you for all that you’re doing but for goodness sake - think carefully about who you get to do the sounds and physics in future. Some third parties are just not delivering.
Since TS times, the sound has been a big issue in a lot of trains/locos. I think this is a huge step in the right direction to recreate the best possible sounds. +1 to DTG for this decision. I'm sure it will be very welcome by the community.
3d trains hasnt put out a loco in well over a decade, and the sounds for their F7 is not great. What about the dude from Oovee from a while back, who did the first 645E sound pack? Or is he with Searchlight now? Best bet is audio shack.
https://www.trains.com/mrr/news-rev...althersmainline-ho-scale-emd-sd70ace-article/ Walthers HO SD70ACE gets really good reviews for prototypical sounds. So may be a good starting point Matt?
Oovee went off to do Spintires which morphed into the fantastic Snowrunner (complete with great sounding heavy trucks).
That would fall to the individual sound decoder company, not the maker of the loco itself. Walthers uses ESU for its decoders, so maybe talking to them would be the better start. https://www.esu.eu/en/start/
Knowing this just makes me even more annoyed about the 150 sounds they are just so wrong and knowing you have given them all that material and they just ignored it and done there own thing is an insult really. Credit where it’s due on DTGs part though I think this is one big step forward for DTG thank you Matt for getting the community involved and asking for help with getting sounds, shame rivet couldn't do the same.
True but Walthers should already have contacts with ESU which they might be able to put DTG in contact with. From an art work perspective as well as sound there possibly could be a good 2 way sharing of information between DTG and model railway companies.
Some do, but some are more enlightened (the reality is the opposite, people often go from virtual trains to model trains, because virtual trains are a great way to get youthful antics out of your system, learn more about how things work, and then find fascination in the beauty of a real physical model). We'll certainly drop Walthers a note and see what they say, they may be able to "grease some wheels". Matt.
Matt, if you want to look into it, there are other model train manufactures you could also try and contact for sounds.... Both Athearn and Bachmann use Soundtraxx decoders for their SD70ACe's. Broadway Limited Imports makes N scale SD70ACe's equipped with BLI's own Paragon 3 decoders. MTH I believe had their own decoder line, the Proto Sound 2.0 and 3.0 decoders, and had made the SD70ACe in both HO and O scale. With the owner retiring and shutting the company down back in May 2021, you could see if any of those sounds are for sale, if they weren't acquired by someone else. I know Scaletrains.com bought a large amount of MTH's tooling in HO and S scale, but I don't think they bought the decoders (Since Scaletrain's locos use LOKsound by ESU)
Could you just use another RR's sounds, I think its mostly the same engine parts. CSX is very cooperative with you guys. I really have no clue
They did. Buying AP sound files is like buying top-quality steak- you still have to prepare it right. In this case, Rivet served it definitely underdone.
The actual best way to get in contact with ESU is on the Facebook group HO Scale Model Railroading, its actually where I was able to get warranty info for a V5 I toasted. The person I got in contact with was Alec Herman, maybe just drop a line in their product support box? I dont exactly know the details between DTG and Searchlight, but honestly, if there were any way to get their sounds into the game I would be a happy camper. Another option is to get recordings from a Euro 4000, as they are basically the UK version of an SD70ACe and sound nearly the same
An SD70Ace is an SD70Ace, the only real differences in any of the locomotives are the paint on the outside and headlight placement, other than that they are all identical. All powered by an EMD 16-710G3C-T2
As for horn sounds, try this: http://atsf.railfan.net/airhorns/k5lla_1up1983evans.mp3 or these: http://atsf.railfan.net/airhorns/k5lla.html
Searchlight - no dice. Broadway Limited - we've used them in the past, the CSX Heavy Haul US loco sounds all came from BLI. No dice trying to get back in touch atm however. ESU facebook page - we'll give it a shot Another operator SD70ACe - None of the Class 1's will permit on-site recording trips for us i'm afraid, we've approached them all. I'll find out what other model sound companies we haven't approached yet and get them on the list to contact as well. Thanks all Matt.
What do you mean by "using another RR's sounds?" Also the SD70ACe has a fairly unique 16-710 prime mover, and is only used on (for American freight locomotives) the SD70, SD80 (the SD80 is nearly gone however, it sold very poorly), and the GP60 series.
Technically, if you want to get specific, this EMD engine they're looking for is a 16-710G3C-T2. Which has been made for both the SD70M-2 & SD70ACe. So really, you can't just slap on the same engine sounds from the SD40 (which has a 645E3 Model, very different) and call it a day. That would be terrible, and you know it.
Hi Matt, I can’t help you with engine sounds, but I’d be more than happy to donate audio for horns and bells. I have a collection of k horns including (but not limited to) a RL K5LLA which is typical for the SD70ACe. I also have both GW E-Bell and air steel bell that I could give recordings of. I think it would be great to have a horn and bell that is typical to this model, and since I own the horns they can be quality static recordings with minimal background noise. Feel free to reach out! I’d love to help.
what specific audio are you looking for? I could ask in some of the facebook groups I'm in and see what I can find
Few other places to ask could be Montana Rail link, they are a smaller Class 2 with a few SD70Aces, as well as Progress Rail or Motive Power, they rebuild locomotives, They used to be HQ where I live but moved over to PA about a year ago
JimmyMillisky Oh please please get in touch drop me a DM and we can take this further, this sounds great! thanks! MLP Derick - anything really but primarily prime mover, traction motor, fans, running sounds etc. startups, shutdowns, horns, bells, anything and everything really even if we have other variations, i'm not about to turn down variety Thanks all
