Thinking of reinvesting my refund from Rapid Transit in the 101 as it seems to have garnered good reviews on Steam, particularly the audio. However I am put off by the fact it only seems enabled on one route, the very short HRR from Duisberg to Bochum. Am I right then to assume there are still no layers for this loco on any other route where it could get a better workout such as RSN or MSB, the only option being to use Off The Rails mode?
Do DTG have any plans to introduce layers on other routes?

There is a layer for the 101 on DRA.

Thanks Jinoss. Once my Steam credit has gone through, I’ll buy it.

I'm also in the same boat, seriously considering picking up the 101 to add traffic variety to DRA. It seems to have had some rather good feedback re sound across the forums, and to be quite honest the white coaches in a sea of red ones appeals to me.

Anything to relieve the Dosto monotony is welcome. Until/if we get Silberlinge and UIC stock, this will do and should be extended over the other German routes too.

It's a good DLC and enjoyable precisely for that reason!

When you buy it, you need to have HRR for it to work. If you have that, you will get additionally two services on Hamburg-Luebeck and a roughly two-hourly service in both directions on Dresden-Riesa (more or less in the gaps of the ICE services).

They'll no doubt be using it on future routes where appropriate. Currently it's additionally used on Dresden and Hamburg. It's a lovely locomotive but I think HRR is the only route so far where you can make an intermediate stop?

You won't need 'off the rails' mode to use it on other German routes.

Would the 101 be prototypical on RSN?

Excellent. As I said, as soon as my refund credit shows a positive balance it will be in my collection

Accept might not be prototypical on MSB or RSN but at least it would give a longer route to run on.

DRA also has an intermediate stop at Dresden Neustadt.
Those are current timetables, right? If so, consider that RSN is set around 2007 and MSB before 2017. I don‘t think any 101s ran there at those times anyways, but it‘s something to be aware of when fact-checking.

I don't know where I can get historic German timetables. Wikipedia had the lines from about 2014 and lists no lines through Aschaffenburg or Siegen.

Well bought it this morning and what can I say, it’s a great add on. This should set the benchmark for all traction DLC. Handles well and the sounds are superb. Rivet take note.
Would really benefit from a longer route as this is a locomotive you want to make a journey in.

It’d be nice to have somewhere to open the 101 up (outside off the rails)

Don't forget to check out the link in my signature 'Routes & Locos' to see what locos layer onto which routes assuming you own them.
Also, if you know of any mistakes or missing layers, please let me know :)

You have made a great purchase, BR 101 is amazing. This add-on is from DTG but Maik was also working on it and that's why it has such a great quality.
I have also travelled as a passenger on almost all TSW routes comfortably seated on this train and it was a great experience thanks to its wonderful sound.
I would like the preservation team to add a layer of the 101 in Munich-Ausburg in the future, it would be amazing to see it on this route and to be able to drive it with LZB activated. The problem here is the lack of cab control cars in Munich, I don't know how they could solve it. I guess they could also build it to sell as DLC with that layer for HMA. I would buy it on day one without hesitation

Let's just hope one day the cab car will also come. I don't have high hopes but you never know. Maybe there will be a BR 120 loco DLC with the already ingame IC Coaches and the cab car. That would be so lovely!

The only downside of the 101 is the lack of key binding to my rail driver for AFB and the need to use the keyboard to set AFB speeds. It kills the immersion in an otherwise excellent loco

Really enjoying the 101, need to drive it more often! I’m still a bit sad about the missing cab & restaurant cars, but I can honestly completely understand why they’re not included. If you think about it, this DLC required DTG to create three models fully from scratch (101, 1st class, 2nd class). In comparison to that, a loco DLC like the BR 313 is nearly completely based on the 314 from Cathcart, with just a few technical changes and a different passenger compartment. But both of these DLCs are sold for the same price, so it would obviously be unwise for DTG to spend 5x as much effort on the 101. Got to think about the financial side of things, too. Still, the 101 is probably the best loco DLC in the game, so great job to everyone who helped develop it!

I think the cab car will come on a route where it's needed, such as one out of Frankfurt, or another out of Munich.

Are you able to complete a service without the cabcar though? Yes.

That's what I mean - if you go to Frankfurt or Munich, the only other direction is backwards, which means either cabcar or top & tail. I think if we get the Munich - Nurnberg high speed line we'd get the cabcar for the RE services.

Top and tail okay provided the rear loco isn’t powering, so you end up with an incredibly OP formation like the 37s on TS Wherry Line. The best solution probably just to exit the consist through a portal though of course this isn’t going to be possible at a terminus station where the consist would form a next working.

That is not prototypical. When the 101 first came out, I checked loads of videos of 101 top-and-tail consists and in all of those both locos were providing traction.

Not a 100% sure, but I think Matt once explained that the 313 is indeed not a copy with some changes but more like a completly new built train. But again - not to keen about that

Good point if it's a single DB BR101 in Frankfurt Am Main Hbf and Munchen Hbf a DB BR363 is used to pull the passenger coaches then DB BR101 pulls out to another siding. That allows the DB BR363 to shunt the passenger coaches back into the departing platform then DB BR101 proceeds into the Departing Train from Frankfurt Am Main Hbf or Munchen Hbf.
    DB BR363 Munchen Hbf operation

To solve this issue have DB BR101 with IC1 Cab Car come standard with a Future German Route that might be Koln Hbf to Koblenz. DB BR101 IC1 services Hagen Wuppertal Koln Koblenz Stuttgart Augsburg Munchen from Dortmund Hbf.

You mean Koln to Koblenz route where they run also the West Rhine Railway as seen in the picture.

I guess another option if IC substitution isn’t practical, would be to sub them on freight workings. Maybe not prototypical but at least better than Off The Rails.

The diesel legends pack involves trains with one loco arriving in a terminus and then some shunting around to get a loco on the other end. Something like that and the above video might be interesting on a German route.

All Railjets have a Steuerwagen, you're probably thinking of EuroCity services.

this is the complete list of layered routes for 101 from the TSW wiki, as far as I managed to find:
    • Hauptstrecke Rhein Ruhr (home route)
    • Schnellfahrstrecke Köln-Aachen (like 1 service)
    • Hauptstrecke Hamburg – Lübeck (a lot of services)
    • Nahverkehr Dresden (a lot of IC services)
    • Schnellfahrstrecke Kassel-Würzburg (some services)
    • Bahnstrecke Bremen – Oldenburg (decent number of services)
    • Bahnstrecke Salzburg-Rosenheim (a LOT of services both ways)
so... so far 7 routes... I also thought, for some reason, that it also layers into Rhein Ruhr Osten and Ruhr Sieg Nord, but that was probably me confusing route names :D ... some sites also showed Vorarlberg and Tharandter Rampe, but I got all necessary DLCs and it doesnt show 101 on those

if I got it wrong, or missing a layer, let me know :)

The 101 DLC layers onto those as in: the IC cars do. They’re coupled with HBK’s MRCE 182 for a couple of playable services on Vorarlberg and a couple of AI services in Dresden on DCZ. So those sites are technically correct.

For the topic of the thread though, the Br 101 herself does not layer onto those two.

The 101 service on SKA also requires the expansion pack, but it is a truly excellent run!
