Hello, I’ve encountered a few signals like these on Brighton mainline. I was wondering if they are realistic and if so why do they exist? To explain, these two signals control the two tracks respectively which have just split from the same track. Normally the signal would be just before the points and not immediately after. In this example they have installed two signals just beyond the points which do the job of just one as there is no way to have two trains waiting at these signals as they would foul the points. Is this correct and if so why would they go to all that expense when they could just put one signal post before the points?
The two signals will be more use when one is on a yellow aspect and the following signal is red. What would happen next if there was only one signal before the junction is that two tracks would be restricted when only one track is occupied. I think both those lines go all the way to the station, so you wouldn’t want both being blocked unnecessarily by one signal if only one track was backed up.
