Firstly, doesn’t anyone else think that Dovetail should add variations on the level of dirt/ dust found on or within a train or loco?… I feel like it would be nice to start a random service and u might have to operate an extremely filthy train/ loco, or a much cleaner one. Also, I personally think it would be pretty neat to add a feature where the amount of filth on the train you are driving actually builds up throughout the service , would be a good way to present more realism.
I agree it would be good to see different levels of dirt on the trains, although I don’t think the licenses would be granted especially from current Train Operating Companies with their trains covered in dirt. Interestingly in today’s railway it is quite rare to see a train as dirty as they used to be (the exception are the sandite trains), I’m not saying they occasionally don’t get dirty but I’ve not seen a modern train with anything other than a single days worth of road dirt on it
The issue relies on the individual railroad companies themselves, and wheather or not the operating companies want to see their equipment dirty or weathered out. Not saying it's impossible however, as Skyhook was able to have a clean and weathered version of the Union Pacific AC4400CW that came with Cane Creek.
US freight operators are a little less fussy. The CSX C40-8W is pretty grubby as well, and the Clinchfields.....!
Are you sure? The most clean trains are the German ones and when you look at the BR 187 the first thing you notice is how authentic it looks because all of the dirt on it. The BR 313 also has a little dirt pattern on the front.
