Perpignan-sète: A French Route By The Mediterranian Sea

    Hello, DTG!

    I would like to suggest a route that might be very nice to add to TSW2: Perpignan-Sète, which runs on the seaside, in the Languedoc-Roussillon region (western part of the French Mediterranean Sea coast.

    Since it is quite an long way from Perpignan to Sète (roughly 120km), it can be split in 2 add-ons : Perpignan-Narbonne and Narbonne-Sète (~60km each).
    The scenery would be majestic, as mediterranean landscape always is, especially on this part of the seaside, because of the presence of several lagoons separated from the sea by thin landstripes that the train runs on (especially on the Perpignan-Narbonne line).
    It is electrified in 1500V DC, and the maximum speed is 160 kph (between Narbonne and Sète). An interesting thing to note is that just before the Sète station (coming from Narbonne) there's a vertical-lift bridge over a canal, and locomotives have to pass it with their pantographs lowered.

    Several type of services run on these lines:
    -Intercités (Intercity), with "Nez Cassés" locomotives (BB7200, BB22200 and CC6500 in the past) or BB26000 and Corail coaches or Alstom Coradia trainsets.
    -Intercités de Nuit (Night trains) with BB7200/BB26000 and Corail coaches (including Sleeping cars)
    -TER (Regional trains-TER Occitanie division) with Z2, AGC/BGC, ATER, Alstom Coradia Régiolis trainsets and (in the past) BB7600+Corail coaches
    -Freight trains, hauled by different locomotives (might be BB7200, BB26000, BB27000, BB36000, BB37000, Traxx, Class 66, etc...)
    -High Speed Trains (TGV&AVE), running on international services to Spain
    International Talgo trains used to run on this line, hauled by BB7200.

    So, as you can see, there's plenty of services to do, with a lot of different rolling stock (in my opinion the older types are more interesting ("Nez Cassés" locomotives especially), with a magnificent scenery.

    Also, speaking about vintage rolling stock, it would be nice to see "living" again in the game, apart from the CC6500, the BB9200/9300 and the BB8500 locomotives, which are not rolling anymore, for some years already, but have marked the railway landscape on these lines for decades.

    There is no more Talgo services on this route since December 2013. Reason for this is that LGV Perpignan-Barcelona was completed all the way to Barcelona 180 km 110 mi. TGV Euroduplex 800s are used here and LGV Méditerranée gives 200s TGV Duplex for use here

    I really like how the Nez-Casses (or Brigittes as we know them in central Europe) look, if the RSSLO version is anything to go by they're hell to drive. Would be the most challenging locomotive in TSW2, so you'd need to accompany it with a slightly more user-friendly one I think, but I'd still enjoy trying to master it.

    Looks like it has everything, interesting locomotives, good variety of services, interesting landscape - I would definitely buy this no question

    They're also in the Netherlands NS1600 family and that version is SZ363 from TS22 Karawanken Bahn

    I'd totally love some Nez Cassés with Corail coaches, and the mediterranean scenery would make it even better. We could use some more French routes, and it would be a shame not to utilise the safety systems already which are already in game for LGV.

    Along the Nez Cassés you could have the Sybic BB26000 which has more electronics, so is easier to drive, or Alstom Coradia Régolis EMUs one of the latest arrivals in SNCF's rolling stock, which would be even easier to handle;)
    Though Nez Cassés look gorgeous and I would like to see them before all alternatives:love:
