A shiny new set of M8s passes a set of aged M2s and M4s in 2012, already at the tail end of their long and fruitful careers.
Looking back to the 1960s, you could see the days of steam locomotion were coming to an end. Locos:- Stanier Black 5 / Class 27
Hi all, am thinking that unless we get a mass influx of entries in the next hour or two, we extend this theme until next Friday. If not chosing the top 3 could be the easiest week ever. LOL. I appreciate a lot of us work strange hours, or have other commitments in the week and this theme wasn't posted till late on last Sunday due to time differences etc. Any other suggestions greatly accepted. Cheers. [EDIT] I have extended the deadline to next Friday 19th Novemver if that is ok with everyone.
Looking back from the boiler of an 8F with a rake of wagons carrying a consignment of Morris Minor cars back in the 1950s
Beginning to look like this theme is not attracting much interest, or maybe this thread has had it's day. Any suggestions moving forwards? Cheers
Perhaps call it a wrap and move along with the next contest. Win some and lose some with themes I guess.
It could be interpreted two ways, either as historical or literally looking back. The steam is conflicting with the official thread. The angle could be interpreted either literally (I have a very few shots like that), or simply photographed from the front. I think it's fine to wait out Friday. There are overall 5 votes for the next theme as well. Maybe there is a temporary lull. The Where am I thread died rather unceremoniously. Judging by recent likes there might be a little lack of activity overall.
Welcome aboard. The theme is "Looking Back" so you can interpret it however you like, e.g. looking back in time, looking back from the cab, looking back down the line, looking back .............." Thats's the fun of this comp, you can interpret the themes however you wish, just have fun and let your creative thoughts flow. The rules are basically there are no rules. Have fun
Well, for one of my entries, I have chosen to show the class 142 operating before the retirement last year. Looking back, these 'pacer' units were a stopgap to prop up both BR and Leyland by using bus bodies. They were never intended to run for 40 years and many hated them, earning them the nickname 'nodding donkeys'. The were noisy, draughty and bouncy. However, since retirement and some units going into preservation, there's a nostalgic nod to these trains and many are keen to once again travel on them and see them in service on preserved lines. 142017 at Poppleton station for one of her last runs on the Harrogate Loop line between York and Leeds before retirement.
I took a few shots for the sake of participating This is a Class 33/0 in BR Blue with a rake of FEA-B and more:
Fourth, probably at the expense of the 2nd, looking at the back of UP Extra 82 West. Love the clouds and the nonstandard wagons.
Actually, that can fit in. A modern engineer/driver looking back at how his or her job was different yet the same back in the days of regular steam, and IS different when running a preserved steamer.
Okely, Dokely, Think it's time we put this theme to bed and announce the winners. This theme has appeared to be somewhat challenging so a big thank you all for your contributions. Here we go:- In 3rd place, Nick Y for this cracking black & white shot of our beloved nodding donkey In 2nd place and runner up Legomaster1197 for this excellent interpretation of the theme. And finally I award 1st place and honour of Judge & choser of theme for next week to................... Triznya.andras for this superb looking back view from a class 33 Love the way the curve of the wagons reflect the curve of the river. Congratulations, I hand over the master key to your good self to take us all on the next stage of this journey.
Well done Triznya. That's a good shot. Happy with 3rd again this time (who can resist a nodding donkey, lol).
Wow, I didn't expect that! Thank you <3 Congratulations to the runner-ups as well, great shots. I mean it. New thread is up: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/unofficial-screenshot-competition-week-32.48948/
