Both sat at red signal waiting to enter York station ..... Given the choice which would you prefer to be driving?

The 150. I like to drive steam but the game limitations annoy me: I can't see forward properly and sound is completely panned to one ear.

My set, with a bit of a delay as I swamped myself with NSE shots.
    1) A green Class 33 leads a Darlington-Durham train on a muddy banking
    20210516101916_1.jpg
    2) A BR 189 with a short transfer, exhibiting my tunnel fetish

    3) One of the wayside industries between Altoona and Johnstown
    20210328101638_1.jpg
    4) The grayness of the old NEC gives way to colors and shades during evening hours
    20210322070652_1.jpg
    5) Amtrak crosses a stone banking over the seaside swamps on the Pacific Surfliner

By the way, a little game of my development journey. Very optional, of course.
This was my pool, if you think I should have picked something else, let me know and why.

I like number 3 because rs11 are very similar to rsd16 running in my country, but your selection was great as usual :)

........ and just now am sat a red signal in ths beauty, must admit I am blown away with how good this unit is.

The features and sounds are beyond anything I have ever witnessed in Train Sim, and talk about driveable it is so versatile it's unreal.:love::love: 20211009211044_1.jpg

I feel like it's been a minute since I made a scene in TS, so here's one that I've been working on for the last few weeks. I've been experimenting with using real-world terrain data. The data I used for this scene is from roughly the same area as the Durango and Silverton's famous high-line.

Its a sunny summer's afternoon at Kingswear and 7827 'Lydham Manor' is simmering gently, as a recent arrival from Paignton disgorges its load on the other side of the platform. 20211016194824_1.jpg

A screen taken in a new scenario that required the reskin making first as well. D1015 on a loaded test run for a mainline outing that ultimately didn't make it. In case you can't tell the first shot is in the scenario, the second is my photo I took to record the event for real
    20210922224228_1.jpg

    P1130045.jpg

It shows how far we still could go for weather, lighting and material simulations when we compare the two images.

I agree, I may have a few hints though, hope it helps.
    • Some routes come with near-realistic scenery. I only play the new PDL because reasons, but you may have some.
    • For a long while I was a big fan of Clear weather with Quick Drives. Gives good lights, with a few issues on the side.
    • For better skies, you can use the route-specific (2D) Cloudy or 3D Cloudy weather. Initially I dabbled with 3D, only to find 2D prettier. You can also go for the AP enhancement, I find it a little cartoony but still nice. (See Limeyfox above, that's AP I guess.)
    • Cloudy weather comes with a bit less light, so either play with the Escape menu settings, or shoot around noon, unless Summer.
    • You may want to shoot with the light source (Sun) behind you.
Going against this can work, the train is going to have contrast and shadow.
    • In Summer, noon sunshine is practically from above, which favors shots from above. I like 9am / 4pm.
Doing an Autumn run now, and the sun is fairly low even at noon (well, noon might be 1pm due to DST).
Some of it is photographing basics, others are simply the result of years of experimenting, cherry picking and looking at other artists' works.

You posted some nice screens this week, both trestle shots are great, as is the Kingswear overview and the double header.
Here is my selection for this week, a little story of seasons:
    1) As the winter sun shines on a blissful North Jersey afternoon, an NJ Transit EMD F40PH runs north not long after leaving Bay Head
    1 20201227095103_1.jpg
    2) As spring arrives to Southwest England, this BR Blue-Grey Class 101 sprints towards Exeter
    2 20210302223008_1.jpg
    3) With summer in its full glory, a Class 101 in matching BR Blue colors travels through lush land near Carlisle
    3 20210306111709_1.jpg
    4) As lush turns to parched, an EMD DD35A duo takes a string of hoppers to Granite for loading
    4 20210124104940_1.jpg
    5) On a peaceful, moody Cornwall evening, a Class 08 with ballast hoppers takes the trip of struggles from Truro to Falmouth

Not one of my best captures, but not bad either. A Caledonian Railway class 812 on West Lines of Scotland:
This documents my first drive of the 812 since applying CW's recent 'update'. The original version featured a unique reverser / regulator relationship. The old manual went out of its way to let us known that that's how CR locos of that vintage functioned. The update converts 812 to CW's usual reverser / regulator scheme. While I in some sense regret the switch to normalcy, I readily admit that I seldom drove the original version due to needing to relearn its unique driving characteristics each outing. In other words, I'm not displeased with the change.

"Not in service" is my favorite train, too. The bridge looks magnificent.
Actually, I've just learned that some languages refer to bridges as her. The green one looks stunning.
Other languages use him. The stone bridge looks steady and strong.

    1) P30CH across Cajon Pass - Think of a desert...

    4) Station buildings on the Settle-Carlisle line are beautiful - There must be a ladder somewhere...

Haha, in this case I was a bit miffed.
I had not long downloaded the ATS WCML route and thought I would also download a couple of Class 185 scenarios so I could play with the announcement system. This particular scenario 5F26 Crewe - Liverpool turns out to be a route learning run so no announcements. GUTTED!!! LOL
The bridge is the Silver Jubilee Bridge at Runcorn, it crosses over the River Mersey & the Manchester Ship Canal. It certainly has been beautifully modelled in this route.

I'm a bit of two minds about this selection, it's certainly a bit historical. I hope you'll enjoy the memories or perspectives. :)

    3) A Class 101 reflects the sun while travelling from Edinburgh to Glasgow on a crispy wintersday

An L&Y class-A stops at road crossing on West Somerset Railway:
This is one of the stock scenarios provided with the class-A. There is, btw, nothing in front of the paused van. I had the train wait for cars to clear the crossing for some time, finally decided it was a glitch, opened the regulator, and plowed through the paused car. So far as I can tell, I wasn't dinged for it. I like the class-A. Sadly, like some other DT steam locos it doesn't come with custom cab lean-outs. However, its front window cameras are quite usable, and it any case the loco is traveling in reverse so lean-outs don't matter.

There's something special about a steam train on a well-banked curve. A Caledonian Railway 439 looking fine in LMS Crimson, slumming on Cornish Main Line. The CW CR 439 (plus add-on pack) was one of my earliest TS acquisitions. For some time it was my favorite Train Sim loco. I still think highly of it, though I no longer drive it nearly as much as I once did.

Yeah, BNSF, for whatever reason, doesn't want their logos being made available to those who aren't in the U.S., hence the unbranded versions of BNSF and BNSF-predecessor companies.

It's because DTG thinks BNSF's international license is too hefty a fine for them to uphold.

The CR 439 in LMS crimson again, now weathered from age and neglect, seen on Fife Circle.

Nice to see your German endeavours, Craigie. Always fun to try something new, especially when it looks good and interesting! The E18 is next on my menu actually as well :) I was hunting a (blue) model of it but eluded me. Looks pretty.
After 6 happy months I finished my Class 33 journey. Managed to literally drown myself in screenshots on the last leg. One included. :)

    1) Solder Summit is gross. A mix of greens, sand, rocks and heavy metal. Love it. (Scenario: Kaiser Steel)

    2) Coinciding with the development of K.I.T.T., Union Pacific retired their DD35(A) fleet but only after taking hoppers to Granite Canyon Quarry

    3) An Alco RS-11 takes a regular load of coal to Johnstown on the branch

    4) A driver does his magic to this Class 33 while it does its own magic hauling its passengers around the Wear Valley

    5) A (General Grey) Class 33 brings a rake of containers on (FEA-B) flats on the North London Line
