I am new to TSW2 and Rush Hour never having hadTSW2020. I have had TS since 2013. I took advantage of the free TSW2 from Epic and am slowly working my way around the sim, utilizing the Starters Guide by Rudolph Heijink. I have concentrated on Bakerloo which I finally got running and am now exploring Sandpatch. From a link in the Starters Guide, I downloaded some TS2 mods and placed them in the Content folder. Is this where they go?

Upon starting TSW2, I now get an info pop up informing me that some/all of the mods do not conform to the current version of TSW2 and that I need to update the core game. Well, the core game from Epic I downloaded just two weeks ago. I am confused here. Is Rush Hour, which I have, also the core game? How/where do I I know if there is a core update?

    Thanks

At the time that Rush Hour was released, the core game was updated from an Unreal Engine 4.23 base to UE 4.26. This change made most existing mods incompatible.

Since then, nearly all mod creators have uploaded updated versions to the usual download sites (in fact on Train Sim Community and Railsim-de you can filter for 4.26/RH compatibility), but you do have to get the updated versions because the old ones usually won't work (the big exception is liveries; those aren't affected).

Thank you Bill. Since composing the post, I discovered that the mods I had downloaded, I had placed in the DLC folder and not the PAK folder. So I correctly placed them in the PAK folder, but as you mentioned, some or all might not work because of the Unreal engine update for Rush Hour. I found this out the hard way as when I executed TSW2, it crashed with a pop up telling me as such! So I deleted all the mods from the PAK folder and fired up the sim again to no avail. Kept getting the crash pop up. As mentioned, I got TSW2 from Epic but I am not so sure this is the best platform for the sim as uninstalling it and removing the files was a nightmare. I could find no other way to get TSW2 running again other than to re-download it after a complete removal from my HD.

This leads me to another question. I have Steam for which I run TS, American and European Truck Simulators. On Epic, I have TSW2 and Call of the Wild. If I run into a file/folder problem with Steam, I can use the Verify Cache utility to get me up and running again for each individual sim. I have not been able to find that type of Verify Cache utility on Epic. Can you, or anyone that has the Epic platform, help answer this for me? As it is, I have also lost Call of The Wild and will have to re-download it again as I am currently doing with TSW2.

    Thanks

I'm afraid I can't help you with Epic, since I play on Steam.

Query: when you deleted the mods from the .pak folder, did you accidentally delete any DTG game/route files that are supposed to be there?

I left one mod in the folder with the other 4 "core" files that all had the syntax "WindowsNoEditor. That file was labeled the San Francisco-San Jose.pak. I left it there because it also had the "WindowsNoEditor label. Leaving that file in the PAK folder was the culprit that did not allow TSW2 to load and hence gave me the crash pop up as I just discovered by placing it back in the PAK folder after a complete new download. Thankfully, removing it allowed TSW2 to load and not require another re-download. I'm really skeptical now of all mods for TSW2 with the Unreal Engine v4.27. As you said I will be very sure that what mods I download for the sim are compatible with v4.27. I hope someone can chime in in regards to my question about Verify Cache.

    Thanks

All right, here's the thing: the only files in the Paks folder should be the TSW2 base game and its associated routes Köln-Aachen, Bakerloo and Sand Patch:

    TS2Prototype-WindowsNoEditor.pak
    TS2Prototype-WindowsNoEditor-LUBakerlooLine-coredata.pak
    TS2Prototype-WindowsNoEditor-KolnAachen-coredata.pak
    TS2Prototype-WindowsNoEditor-SandPatchGrade-coredata.pak

ALL other routes and locos (which are by definition DLC) go in the DLC folder. Likewise, all mods also go in the DLC folder. (NB: many modders include "WindowsNoEditor" in their filenames)

Ah! Excellent info. By convention, I placed the PAK files in the PAK folder including the San Francisco-San Jose pak file. I have since placed that file in the DLC folder and TSW2 continues to load without exception. Before I place the other 4 mod files, I will check to see if they are compatible with Unreal v4.26. I referenced the version as 4.27 above, which was my mistake. Could you confirm that v4.26 is the most current version?

Success! I downloaded the front door mod for the 1972 Stock, placed it in the DLC folder, executed TSW2, and it worked.

I also think I found an answer to my Verify Cache question by viewing several YT videos comparing the two platforms. Although none of the video's directly mentioned such an option, the overall consensus was that Steam was the preferable platform to select for the overall video gaming experience. In my case, the word "Free" was the deciding factor to go with Epic. Will see what the future holds for me and TSW2 on this platform.

Thanks again for all your help.

    You can call me Chris!

I always assumed 'Bill' was just a little in-joke from a 'solicitr', but perhaps he's a William - my real name isn't 'Quentin' :).
