As you are all digesting the news that came out of today roadmap, elsewhere, it looks like story of the original Train Sim World, TSW 2020 is officially over, as from today, it has been pulled from all it's major stores. It's steam pages states that 'At the request of the publisher, Train Sim World® 2020 is no longer available for sale on Steam'. On the Microsoft store, it's states that the game is 'Not Available Separately' and if you try to go into the Playstation store for TSW 2020, it just comes up as 'Not available for purchase'.

Considering this game has been dead for a while now, as the focus has long shifted towards it's sequel, TSW2, I don't think this news should come as all that surprising, I just find it weird that DTG hasn't done any announcement on this. Or state in the days prior that it's coming off steam.

EDIT: Just noticed that while the game is gone, all of it's respective add-ons are still available for purchase. Probably for Preserved Collection in TSW2

That's interesting. Though I think it's a good call, as sad as it is for TSW2020, there was no need for it anymore.

Shame, it was a great bundle for new players. Perhaps would be a good idea to re-release that bundle for, say, £40.

Probably the right call, though, given it's out of support.

While it makes sense, it still kind of sucks considering it's still arguably the better way of playing older TSW routes. Also the fact it came with a lot of good routes for the price was great. Now you're gonna need to pay a lot more to grab all the stock that was contained in it if you want it.

That was a great way to get many routes for cheap as a new TSW2 player (which is probably also why they’re removing it from the store since everyone is only buying it to get cheap TSW2 routes, actively losing DTG money). Shame about the NEC New York route, which will now be completely unavailable to anyone who doesn’t have it yet.

Further update to this, it also looks like TSW 2020 has been pulled from both the Xbox store and the Playstation store, meaning that the story of the original TSW is officially over.

Xbox store for TSW 2020: https://www.xbox.com/en-gb/games/store/train-sim-world-2020/btsx4fpvx6v5

    PlayStation store for TSW 2020:

I can't disagree with a lot of what you all are saying, considering that this game has been inactive for a long while now, which means it's probably about time to stop selling it, considering we have all long moved on to TSW2.

This was quite overdue in my opinion, for new players you're confronted with TSW2020, TSW2, TS2022 plus all the various DLCs and deluxe versions for each. Not exactly straightforward, having a simple naming scheme would be far better.

Preserved routes don't need to be called that anymore, it's likewise confusing for new players who don't know the backstory, almost making those routes appear inferior. Particularly now they are receiving updates which goes against the original point of them being 'preserved'.

The lost NEC route should be remade, so TSW doesn't pile up with withdrawn/unavailable DLCs like what TS has become.

From what I've heard, it's not that much of a loss, particularly since Boston released.

A newly remade New York based NEC would certainly be good with the switcher and the cab car, as the original route had a good feel, it was just quite badly made and included awkward end points, as far as I know.

Also, while I doubt it would happen, TSW2 could finally be renamed to TSW and stick to that. Would be a much better and cleaner approach to ahve only a single Train Sim World.

Delisting TSW2020 doesn't affect previous ownership of the game or it's DLC so my guess they are keeping them there so they can continue to milk DLC sales from the TSW2020 owners who haven't upgraded.

The TSW2 preserved collection DLCs are separate packages (which is why on EGS they are able to sell this DLC for TSW2 with the TSW2020 base game missing)

    I agree.

It was only good for players wishing to expand their preserved collection and I’ma but surprised there was no prior announcement.

I haven’t loaded up TSW2020 for a very long time. I only have it installed on the PS4, I didn’t see any point in putting it on the PS5. Since getting the PS5 I haven’t played TSW of any kind on the PS4 although if I feel like playing one of the routes I don’t have currently installed in TSW2 due to the PS5 limit, I would do. I’ve moved on as TSW has evolved. There’s only really NEC:NY as a reason to fire up 2020 now and I do that sporadically even though it is a bit of a mess. It has now passed into history.

It makes a lot of sense to delist it, but still a bit unfortunate that NEC: New York, the SW1000R, and the GP40-2 are officially lost to time.

I’d hope these will all come back some day. The New Haven Line would definitely be a great choice for bringing the old route back, as we would get Metro-North and the CSX line from Oak Point to Fresh Pond Junction. And really any switcher with “SW” in the name will be good. Perhaps a certain route set in the 80s could add a switcher…

A little dramatic....it's only really lost to new customers. The DLC was released March 2018 (nearly 4 years ago); I would wager most people who were in any way interested in it would have bought it a long time ago and will be able to play it (along with TSW2020) as normal forever

I've been playing through TSW or 2020 as it is currently for over 3 years. I buy a DLC route during a sale then concentrate on that for 6 months (I don't have a huge amount of weekly gaming time) perhaps getting a DLC loco for the route for some variety during that time. I've still got several new, to me, German route/loco's to explore over the next year or so. Will I need to acquire these sooner rather than later before the DLC is pulled too?

There's no indication the TSW2020 DLC is going to be pulled at least in the short term.

Like I said, when there's money still to be made in selling DLC to the TSW2020 peeps I see no reason why they would...if they were going to they probably would have done it at the same time.

That's not to say they may not in the future but if you are worried start splashing the cash (preferably during sales)

Tbh though, there was no indication TSW2020 was going to be pulled.

Finally, all the explanations of which DLC works with which TSW and especially for people who "accidentally" purchased a TSW 2020 DLC for TSW 2 even though they do not own TSW 2020 are gone. In my opinion a very good move, hats off.

Now there's an issue here you are basically forced to get TSW2 preserved collection for Main Spessart Bahn LIRR NTP & GWML London Paddington to reading for $120 $30x4. Getting those with TSW 2020 you actually end up saving $120 since TSW2020 for $29.99 gets those 4 routes free.

Good point and a way to resurrect NEC New York if they have the technology then it will be Northeast Corridor Newark,NJ to Providence, RI 205mi 330 km. That way you have NJ Transit Conndot Amtrak Metro-North MBTA. Or sold as a bundle Northeast Corridor Newark New Jersey to Boston Massachusetts 250mi 400 km.

It's not so much an issue but cutting the umbilical cord on a product which is no longer supported and creating confusion amongst new customers. True that route package no longer exists but frankly it has been on the stores for over 2 years and been through numerous sales, plenty of time for ppl to jump on it

The original Euro Truck Simulator's no longer supported, but SCS still give you the ability to purchase that for newer players who are curious. There's no "need" to remove products to resolve the confusion, they could easily just rebrand the old TSW, or add disclaimers noting it's no longer supported. And when some older content is still locked behind it, and many more still play better than the TSW2 versions honestly there's a lot of good reasons that it should've been kept up.

I agree with you there. Keep it simple; call it Train Sim World and Train Simulator. No need for numbers in the title. For the yearly big releases, TSW should get themed route bundles like Rush Hour whilst Train Simulator should be marketed as a 20XX route collection, not TS20XX.
