I’ve seen a (concerning) trend where people have suggested new content in the form of DLCs, I understand they are a part of Paradox’s business plan, but we only encourage them to produce more and at a higher price when we are literally asking for them. I don’t know any other company that has its fan base ask to pay for additional content, 5-10 years ago, when a game was released, it would be in a fully complete state, with perhaps 1-2 large scale DLCs, whereas we are seeing a dangerous trend where some recent release take several years to fully patch out/add content to. Have I bought most DLCs… yes… cinema hd and no step back looks great, can’t wait for the next DLC!
Paradox are a game publishing company, they've published Prison Architect (after the original devs sold the rights) and Cities: Skylines among others. They have nothing to do with TS (and you'd know about it if they did).
You can't compare a Train Simulator to other video games except other simulators. With a Paradox title there is likely to be value to be had in every new DLC release in evolving the game. Join that game a few years down the line and the array of add-ons is daunting. With simulators however the idea is much more toward using those add-ons a la carte to suit your personal preference. Not interested in German heavy freight? That's a whole line of add-ons you don't need or want. Part of the reason we get requests for more DLC is that players want more choices that suit their personal taste. View a simulator as a personal collection, not a "must have it all" type affair.
I wished they would take more care and thus more time in assuring the quality of the content. Brakes on US locos especially. They fail to create quality standards. Still can't understand why something like the LocoShop NS SD70M would ever be released by anyone who has a name in the business.
If a small company like AP or LocoShop make some errors with their products then the community will comment and sales will fall. If DTG makes an error with a DLC then they might fix it. Even if they don't the much greater amount of people buying the product would make up for those in the know who are not buying it. Some of the builders in a Niche market will strive for extra detail - unfortunately not all as sub-par products are still released
