DT also has a Flash Sale. They call it a Christmas sale, but it ends December 15. That's far off from Christmas...
JT Sheffield - Derby now on sale.....Just Trains - Midland Main Line: Sheffield-Derby Plus a few other things
I saw JT have Western Mainlines for £20 - is this worth buying if I already have the South West Expressways route instead?
Western Mainlines cover London - Cardiff and Bristol Parkway - Exeter and Didcot - Oxford with over 300 route miles And it covers the alternative route in to Bristol Temple Meads
It's quite dated now by todays high standards but a 3rd party updated version with OHLE is being currently worked on (I spoke to one of the devs about the update today on FB in fact) and will be available over on ATS - Soon™ > https://alanthomsonsim.com/downloads/western-main-lines-electrification-project-v1-00-alpha-w-i-p/ , so I'd say if you want to run the new AP 800/3 from London to Cardiff or Exeter then yeah its worth the £20 punt. What might put you off the updated version on ATS though is to run the OHLE version you'll also need all the extensions, and the complete collection is another £39.99 on top (+ other dependencies).
I was hoping to pick western mainlines up and was waiting for it to drop price. Not necessarily for the route itself but more for the devon and Cornwall add on which uses it as well as other dlcs from steam. Seems a bit of a waste to get all the extensions when in reality il probably not use them much, just frustrating that certain routes have them as requirements.
I may have read this wrong on the ATS site but not sure why he is extending the electrics to Penzance? And there seems to be two different projects on the Great Western Electrification - this is the other. https://alanthomsonsim.com/downloads/western-mainlines-electrification-project-stage-1/
I get what your saying and sympathise, it's the nature of this beast unfortunately, freeware is often far from it when it comes to new players, even with my 7 pages of just UK routes I still manage to find a new freeware route that requires something I don't yet own, and many of the routes I've purchased I've never really played (apart from one cursory scenario just to satisfy myself that it's been used and to see if it's anything I'd like to drive in its own right in the future). What frustrates me even further is when a 3rd party freeware creator decides to make a U.S. or German route as part of the dependencies list, I never play anything other than UK so it's literally bought just for a set of bridges or lofts or something.. Like I say I sympathise.
A few weeks back Just Trains had the MML Extension Derby-Nottingham-Leicester on sale and now the Sheffield - Derby is on sale the extension is full price again
Same with the "Swansea (maybe)" part, the electrification of the SWC to Swansea has been shelved so I can't see it going beyond Canton anytime soon. It may well have been the authors reasoning for electrifying the whole route (possibly without the visual ohle on the non real life electrified sections) that you could drive the whole route in a single scenario. But now that we have a true Bi-mode 800 thanks to AP there's now no need for it so I don't think anything that's not currently electrified irl should be on this route which should be good news for the authors because it's less work right? iirc the other electrification project requires the ATS OHLE (which I haven't got atm) not sure whether that was abandoned or not though, the one I linked is definitely the more recent project and like I said earlier I was assured on FB that the next phase is coming soon.
Do we know when/if AP are having a sale? Want to pick up the 150/2 pack, was going to buy it today along with the 800EP, obviously the 800 wont be discounted but didn't want to buy the 150 and then it gets a discount next week lol.
Soon™ Should be within the next week I reckon it was on the 23rd of Dec last year and that's (oh god) only 7 days away..
Unfortunately Just Trains sale is becoming boring as it is mainly the same few products they put up for sale repeatedly.
Ever hear of BHBP? Western Mainlines is a requirement, and BHBP goes to Penzance without the extensions. There are complaints that WML is not accurate itself, though, particularly from Swindon to Bristol. Sure, Berks and Hanks to Bristol and Penzance has many other requirements too, including the OHLE pack at Newbury to Reading, but it is such a massive network too.
I see BHBP uses the original south western expressways, will it work with the new one as im yet to pick that up?
APs sale began on the Wednesday before Christmas so expect to see it on 22nd with the Steam sale starting on the same day Class 37, 43 val, 156 and 319 for me.
Thanks for the recommendations folks, going to bag Western Mainlines I reckon - how are the expansions (mainly interested in Cornwall and Devon). Got to temper the urge to spend with AP around the corner...
It was on the Wednesday last year but it was the 23rd not the 22nd, I don't know if they specifically chose that day / date or whether it was just randomly selected though..
No idea as of yet, but if I splurge, I'll probably get The Cummins and Perkins 158 packs, 350 pack, 444/450 pack, 67 pack and a couple of wagon packs but that could change
As I said Reef. It is likely to be on Wednesday 22nd the same day as Steam sale as AP and Steam both had sales last year starting on Wednesday 23rd 2020
I asked Tom this question during one of his personal streams. Yes, the assets from South Western Expressways are included with the Reading version. Let's just say I knew being able to answer that question correctly as it relates to BHBP was something I figured might be handy someday.
Caledonia works is having an xmas sale. Quote: "CHRISTMAS SALE 30% OFF DLC USE PROMO CODE: LUKE 2:11 SALE ENDS DECEMBER 27TH Sale does not include Rolling Stock or Add-On Packs" https://caledoniaworks.com/shop/
Look out for the Armstrong Powerhouse sale to begin before 9am tomorrow, especially if it’s the same time before Christmas as last year. Also Steam sale starts at 6pm tomorrow evening. I am getting ready to pick up a few bargains. No word from Rivet yet about a Christmas sale though.
No news yet from AP and as they normally commence sales early in the day, it may not start today, anyway we know the Steam sale starts tonight at 6pm GMT. Maybe APs tomorrow morning. We shall see!!! Hope there are some fantastic bargains this year.
I think my bank balance might be taking a hit these next few weeks. Not that I'm complaining because of the covid situation I've managed to save up quite a bit. Hoping the AP sale starts tomorrow too so I can pick up some of the freight locos that I haven't bought yet. Additional: My bank balance will take even more of a hit with FSX and lots of add-ons being on sale until January 5th.
50% would be fantastic but all their previous sales have been 40%. It’s later this year than normal, so could begin this afternoon or hopefully no later than tomorrow. Their sales are normally every four months April August and December.
Now the sale has started, I have picked up TS2022 Deluxe for £15, and look forward to trying the Birmingham route. Have an eye on the new Chatham DLC, but not sure 10% is enough to tempt me at the moment! Hopefully AP won't be long to start its sale - tempted to pick up the 319s.
You were wise to wait for TS2022 £15 is a steal. You will love the pack. I will wait until Xmas for future summer releases. Though was tempted to purchase Dover and Ramsgate and am not disappointed. Already had the first CML Medway Valley and Sheerness extension all fine routes. S25 Berlin I will be purchasing plus TSW2 LGV already bought and maybe Clinchfield?
