I applied the brakes a bit too late trying out the BR 313 and managed to land the closest I've ever been to a red signal What was your best "brown pants" moment in TSW?
I once forgot to apply the brakes on an HST and had the nose just past the red signal at Reading luckily not too far past, full emergency when I realised where I was
It's very rare in TSW and especially in its timetable service mode to have your train occupy the same signal block as another train ahead of you. So when the opportunity popped up on Boston Sprinter I thought to myself, sure enough, I'll give it a try. It's not an uncommon occurrence on the line irl, hopefully it'll spice things up a little. So there I was in command of an ACS-64, chugging along at nearly 125 mph on approach to Boston Back Bay Station, bound for the Boston South terminus. I start slowing the train down since ATC was screaming at me, getting it down to 30 mph while entering the tunnel. There's a red aspect ahead of me guarding the entrance to Boston Back Bay. I figured there must have been one of those single deck MBTA trains just sitting there at the station, but then I remembered that the platform at this station is fairly long. Maybe I could have enough space to disembark both trains on the same platform? So I bring up the dispatcher and ask for clearance through the red signal, and access was granted right away. Cool. Just as my ACS-64 starts entering the curve into Boston Back Bay, I start applying a little more braking force to pull into the station nice and smoothly. Or so I expected. That needle on the speedometer barely moved an inch!! Turns out that in my fumbling around, I had accidentally set my controller to use the independent brake instead of the train brake! In panic I quickly switch back and applied a full service application. Unfortunately, it wouldn't be enough. There I was, watching in absolute horror as those red tail lights quickly appeared around the curve. Let's just say that the result wasn't too pretty...
Easy. First service I ran, ACS-64 on the original NEC route. First task was to get into the engine, and you had to walk up a staircase over the tracks to get to it. But no. I was going to just jump on the tracks and walk to the door. I hoped off the platform, got across 2 tracks(four track station) and on the third heard this weird noise. I looked left and say an ACS-64 going full 125 MPH about 20 feet from where I stood. I panicked and almost threw my controller-then found out nothing happens when you get hit by a train.
Still in TSW2020, A Frieght Service with the DB BR182 on Main Spessart Bahn from Gemünden to Aschaffenburg. In Lohr I realized too late that I was approaching a Red Signal. I panic, put all the brakes on immediately, I'm still driving too fast, I can already see myself failing the service. When I am half a Meter in front of the Signal, it suddenly jumps to Green. And to put the Cherry on top of the Cake, that was the Service in which I received the "Distance driven Achivement" for the DB BR 182 in TSW2020. Drive 1820 km with the DB BR 182.
I’m always falling asleep and then waking up doing some ridiculous speed down a gradient in Sand Patch Grade or Clinchfield. Those are interesting experiences that add some thrills to otherwise slow services that hypnotise me to sleep in the first place. Other than that there’s at least one service in the TGV Duplex where you are confronted with a train already in the station and the countdown on the cab signalling is the same as if the station was unoccupied, so you’re probably still going way too fast to stop in time. That’s a shocker that has got me once or twice, but I did mange to stop inches from the ‘signal’ on one such occasion. I thought I was in for a definite SPAD but just got away with it.
