Where did that end up? Well we've got 3 routes from Rivet and 1 from Skyhook (with a 2nd to come) which we wouldn't have got otherwise. Thanks to Arosa we've now got a revised AI physics model which can cope with gradients of 6% built into the core game. We've now got numerous locos which we wouldn't have had. We've now got DTG realising they need to support their 3rd parties closer and assist them. Finally most importantly they've shown that producing content for TSW as a 3rd party is profitable, which is only going to encourage more developers. Just because these developers aren't producing content up to your expectations, with every release any reasonable and pragmatic player can see improvements in the quality released and see the benefits that they have brought to the sim.
A dev this big coming on to TSW2 is big news. JT have years of experience building for TS Classic and Flight Simulation.
For all the annoying people who quoted my post above: I didn't say "The new developer sucks". I'm just saying that I'm more for the "Wait and see" approach as they may very well pull a Rivet, given it's their first route for TSW.
Sure would like to know what they plan on making first. Unfortunately, with the way the roadmap works it will probably take a long time until we know, but maybe they will surprise us. I don't think there's anything wrong with that approach. I am excited for a new developer too, but given the difficulties Rivet and Skyhook have had, I don't blame anyone for being cautious. But it will be interesting to see how much (or little) trouble they'll have developing content for a new game.
No. They just published it. As well as RWA's RailJet. JT themselves mainly focussed on english routes.
Depending on whether they have been given access to the route tools - or, rather, the people contracting for JT have - might be our best chance of seeing Glasgow to Dundee and the Forth Bridge in TSW.
I‘m part of the wait-and-see group. Being a console player, I don‘t have any experience with TS classic and JT‘s work for it. We shall see what their work for TSW will be like from a quality perspective. It is good to see more 3rd parties become interested in TSW though.
Adding new 3rd parties to help out is a great idea....i thinking one of them just might really officially and at least semi fully test there dlc before release. This might just inspire the others to perhaps finally. do the same.
Good point and I do have a feeling they might ask Aerosoft Another TS22 3rd party developer to come in and make the electronic timetable and routes to test the electronic timetable which are present in German trains in game but inactive. Finally making a hud free Riesa-Dresden Dresden Chemnitz Tharandter Rampe route
Let's hope JustTrains don't bring their classic blunders into TSW. They've made a lot of poor quality content for TS, so let's hope they up their game. The attached videos by Maverick Hunter Daniel (swear warning) show some of the problems the routes and other JT content have. (The Taurus is not entirely a JT product, but it still has issues)
Yeah. That's a good approach. But I will buy at least their first 2 routes to make sure they have incentive to stick around and make more. We have seen this with Rivet as well. The first couple routes were garbage and the third one is decent although a bit boring. But that's just a personal choice.
Just wanna point out that these reviews are about their older routes. I'd suggest looking at the Midland Mainline set and Southwestern Mainlines - Reading route to get a better idea of their current work. And if you ask me, I think they've come a long way since those routes in the videos, the newer routes are very high standard. We can't know for sure what the future holds but I think we should acknowledge that they have improved lately.
The thing I find about JT's TS1 products is the current ones seem to be good (if a bit hit and miss at times I think), but their older ones like the 153, SECML in particular, have not aged well. I'm certainly hoping they can do well, and certainly looking forward to seeing what they bring to the table - just remember, for both Rivet and Skyhook, their DLC in TS1 are generally considered very good (I love Skyhook's Class 58), their TSW DLCs are generally considered among the worst available for the game for various reasons.
I see JT have done some chinese high-speed content as well. Sounds interesting, would be pretty neat if they were the first to bring Asia to TSW.
You'll find that most (if not all) non-UK content (including some UK content too) was developed by someone else, who simply used Just Trains' website as a place to sell their creations. You can filter out these on their website: https://www.justtrains.net/category/add-ons/routes?dev=just+trains https://www.justtrains.net/category/add-ons/routes?dev=third+party
I really miss in DTG simulators more non US, UK, GER content. I mean, where is Asia (China, Japan, Russia)? I know there is some DLC with it, but mostly not... Russia is really underated country in DTG mind, same with more middle-Europe countries, like Czech republic, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary.
when i saw that just trains were now doing routes for TSW2, i was kind of shocked, but also worried at the same time. im just gonna make this statement and say: just trains are probably the 2nd best third party in train simulator, second only to armstrong powerhouse, their level of detail in their TS routes like the derwent valley line is spectacular. BUT, this excitement could be cut short when they release their first TSW2 product...just trains may not be used to the new editing tools for TSW2. and they might fall flat like rivet did by all means, do be exited JT are great in TS, but the question is now...are they going to be just as skilled in the new TSW2 environment? this could go either 2 ways
I think we'll see a gradual improvement from these new 3rd parties. The first routes will probably have their issues, but I feel like rivet, for example, has shown improvement from the BR 204 and the Island line towards WCL (which does still have it's flaws). I still feel like a new 3rd party getting on board is good news, regardless of whether they'll immediately reach the same highs as they did in TS. I'm sure that as the 3rd party scene grows, and the experience of 3rd party devs grows, the quality of 3rd larty content will also increase.
First off, it's not like Just Trains can't do the same the same thing. Second, Skyhook also did a lot of second party work, yet that didn't help their independent projects much. So it ain't like TSG did better just because of that time, because if it did then we'd be talking about how Cane Creek is a masterpiece right now.
I'm certainly not knocking TSG but they've done 1 loco which doesn't have LZB or AFB. I believe TSG is also a one man band who doesn't have investors or shareholders to answer to with their targets and timescales which need adhering to, so they had the ability to delay and perfect the G6 unlike Rivet or Skyhook. The 187 would have been a day 1 purchase for me had AFB and LZB working and many others have only critised the sound which given the corona is in my book excusable. Can TSG produce a loco with these functions working correctly first time, well until we get one we can't judge either way IMO. How would a TSG route look? I doubt we will ever know as I don't think we'll ever see one. Praise TSG by all means but personally comparing them to Rivet, Skyhook and JT is like comparing apples to oranges.
I think comparing with TSG is difficult, as he doesn't just have experience by working with DTG but also puts in a lot more time than would make economic sense. We as a community should be really thankful for the amount of effort he puts in, as I don't feel the price I pay for DLC fully covers his efforts. I don't think that means JT's DLCs will neccesarily be bad at first by the way. At this point there just is nonway of knowing, so we should hope for the best and expect the worst. And again, regardless of initial DLC quality, the increase in 3rd parties and and the variety they bring is very positive news. It means more cintant with more variety, and if it's no good I'm still not forced to buy it.
Just Trains working with Train Sim World is great news imo. And could be the reason I pick the game back up and spend money on dlc. I think we’re almost guaranteed to see a section of the Midland Main Line at some point. I’ve wanted to see Sheffield to Derby/Nottingham for a long time but have a feeling we’ll see St Pancras to Luton Parkway first. Who knows.. either way, it’s great to see more third parties getting on board with TSW.
No working AFB on RD for the 101 so your point is mute. Its a partially working AFB. Also the 101 is far from perfect. Random wheel slip at high speeds for example.
The AFB does work for me on Riesa Dresden, i cant think of a reason why it shouldnt work on other routes, as its a feature of the loco itself. It works on Hamburg Lübeck and any other route you put it on too. And the wheelslip is realistic if you apply too much power, the 101 doesnt like it if you give it the beans
Seems to me a lot of discusion could be solved already if we would have advanced vehicle range. That means not a 100% cration in 1:1 true to life. But it means for people like more challenges they could upgrade their loco with those systems, additionsl festures etc, and devs get paid for puting more effort into it. I always hear the players wish to use those extras are in a very minority. I dissgrre to that. Its just we dont have acces to an advanced product.
You can use AFB on the 101 with your rail driver? Please tell me which buttons you use? No loco should sit at 70% throttle and then decide to suddenly give wheel slip when no gradient has changed. To suggest otherwise is silly. It's amazing how many people gloss over TSG weaknesses yet berate others for similar.
Sorry but I can't believe it's acts right in the game, it's hard to explain but the way it acts at high speed isn't correct. With zero throttle and brake as you coast shouldn't be giving you random wheel slip surely and there's other examples where at certain speeds you get wheel slip regardless of throttle position. It's a good model other than these anomalies I grant you but it's not perfect.
Can you please do a video of that behaviour please? This is definitely nothing the loco should do and will not do from a "programming" perspective. It never did this when i was developing it. Slip while coasting is nothing i can imagine at all in TSW (basically impossible). The BR101 for sure has a different slip behaviour than you maybe expect. She causes slip by purpose when you set the throttle above 70%. And if you take a closer look, you would see that you don't loose any TE when it is doing that. It's called super-slip. It's different from the widely known macro-slip that most locomotives do, where they try to prevent any upcoming wheel-slip. The 101 allows a certain amount of slip to geht the most TE onto the rails, with the cost of some more wear than usual to the wheels itself. When she starts "screaming" you have active super-slip applied. About RailDriver: it was not a thing when i was developing the 101. And it was not even my responsibility to do (i can't do RD implementation since i don't have a RD to test). It was done by the preserved crew if i remember correctly. For the rest of the discussion: Please let me out of it. This thread is about JT as a new 3rd party developer. Comparing me with such a company is useless. I am working completely different than most other developers for any TS. If you have questions about what i do or have done, ask me directly. If you have concerns about my work, tell it on the right places. Thanks.
I'm aware how it works and I am also aware zero throttle should not equal wheel slip. When I return to the UK in a couple of weeks I'll will recreate and post a video of this. And no RD support for AFB is definitely a thing and nothing to do with the prototype.
Well, trying to get back on topic, it seems like creating content for TSW could lead to more bugs then in TS. This would only proof these one's stating that it's harder to create content for TSW than for TS. But I guess more than 90% TSW-users would prefer someone creating content with taking the risk of there maybe a Bug with it against creating no content at All, which would be the only 100%safe alternative preventing you from having a bug. So, I think it's all in all positive, that a new third party is coming to TSW. And well, if others see, that it could be economically reasonable -I guess even TSG has to take this in consideration sometimes, despite working totally different - maybe more will follow. At least, I guess there will be numerous people waiting for the roadmaps next year, desperately seeking for the first 'developed by Just Trains' DLC to appear on the roadmap.
Not a thing limited to train sims - someone made a review of the Hattons Class 66 (specifically, the model was of 66593), complaining the Freightliner logo had a darker background to the body which they described as lazy and not prototypical. A quick google showed that to be completely false.
Oh sorry, I thought you meant Riesa Dresden with RD, my bad, i dont have a raildriver but without it it works.
Yes I know it works without it but not with it which is why AFAIC it only partially works, as if you can't use it with 1 of the supported controllers then if you use that controller it may as well not work!! From a consumers POV when you have a DLC labelled as a DTG developer and publisher, I couldn't give a hoot which team member/subcontractor was/wasnt responsible.for the omission because that dosn't matter. I'm walking away from this thread now before I get myself permabanned.
Let‘s all agree to disagree on the 101 and respect Maik Goltz‘s wish to be left out of this discussion.
That would be a really weird route, ending at Luton Parkway would be like London Commuter ending at Three Bridges.
Where would you end it, Leicester, that’s too far given previous routes. The MML terminus stations are St Pancras, Nottingham, Derby & Sheffield unless I’m mistaken. Like I said, maybe we’ll see a northern MML route first.
