Correct, with both Class 40's now withdrawn, there's no way to obtain them.

Yep, afraid so. There obviously were reasons for pulling them from sale, but personally I found them to be a cracking piece of kit compared to a lot of DLC currently for sale, (especially after the looping sound problem was fixed).
The list of features from overheating motors / engine, to cold start, opening vents, etc. was immense.
I am just so glad I made the choice to add both to my library last year.
The South Lancashire / North Cheshire route uses it almost exclusively for its scenarios.

Same here, glad I was able to get them before they were withdrawn.

In my early days on TS, I recall overheating traction motors struggling to get an overly long rake of coaches out of Glasgow Queen Street!

Not really RIP - nothing to stop you using them if you already had them

Exactly, they were never likely to improve upon what was already released (other than the sound loop fix on the AP version of course).
Maybe it's for the best, maybe a new ground up build is in the works in the future, who knows, Richard likes to play his cards close to his chest until imminent release of anything so, like I say, who knows.

It is for anybody new to TS that will not be able to experience them.
Not everyone has been playing TS since it's creation, I myself only found it during lockdown in 2020

I picked up the one from Steam before it was removed but didn't get the one from AP. I haven't used it yet though.
Similar to Craigie-C, I only started playing TS earlier this year (as many will have seen my post asking about a decent spec PC to play TS as my laptop struggled with it).

You can say that about anything that has been removed from sale
Look at the sound packs that AP has withdrawn - do you say RIP to them?

Yes, if it means I can no longer improve the dire sounds that come with some of the default stock. LOL
The main point of this discussion is there is no Class 40 currrently available for TS2022.
That is sad as it was a stalwart of the BR Blue era and is no longer available to new subscribers to TS.

Only the AP version was fixed, the Steam DTG 40145 version never was.

That threw me too, they really do look the wrong way round.

Just Trains has a Class 40 ( made by Digital Traction) in green and blue with various headcode permutations.

I'd say it was worth £2.99 not £12.99 it's really showing it's age.

Yeah.. but... it was the only class 40 worth buying.. now the game has no 40.... and let's be honest, it's a locomotive that really needs to be in the game.

Shame you have to install Track Side Walker to use it.... and still be disappointed. ;)

We still have it TS20xx if you've already bought it.

It's fairly complex... certainly not a load up in quick drive, press W Press A affair.
I love the 40... reminds me of days in the late 70s sat on Manchester Victoria with a super8 camera. :)

The engine revving up is like a cat purring.

Vern, maybe it was the AWS change end switch?

Well that's a blow. I just discovered the Class 40 I have is the original DT one, not the AP model.
    Feeling very sad now.
Maybe it will come back one day.

As JT sell a Class 40, then I’ll have to withdraw the comment that there’s none available!

I personally think any EE engine from a loco sounds like a Harley Davidson in low idle.

Bump and a postscript... Rummaging around in my "virtual" file boxes last night, discovered I had actually purchased the AP/Railright version.

Installed and after a bit of a tussle with AWS switches this time I was able to get moving. It's good, but have to say at the risk of getting lynched, not 100% perfect. The sounds only really kick in above 80% throttle and are a bit muted in the cab, as per usual with AP. Brakes also rather finicky, even a slight reduction to 19 or 20 in vacuum seems to kick in very rapid deceleration (switches on the auxiliary panel are set correctly).

Still at least I found it and got it running!

RIP sound packs. Especially the 57, it has made so many reskins useless. #Bring57Back

it is a little quiet, and there can be issues. I have been trying some of the S Lancs and N Cheshire scenarios with them, and find that you can’t change cab ends to reverse, and if you save a scenario and return to it , power is lost and can’t be regained.

The Digital Traction class 40 which I think is available through JT still, is decent. I also have the old IHH class 40 which looks nice and is certainly noisy.

I just tried the 40145 version and I have no problem changing ends
But you have to follow the correct sequence
Make sure the reverser is Off and the Master Key is removed - Letter E,
    Put the AWS handle down.
Lock the Train Brake handle using the R key to lift the pin

You can save a scenario but there is a sequence to go thru
    Important functionality information
Please note, this information only applies to the ‘Advanced’ version of this loco.

If you would like to save a scenario when using this locomotive and return to it at a later time, you must carry out the following procedure:
    Saving the scenario
    1) Come to a stop.
    2) Press the ‘S’ key to move the Reverser into the ‘Off’ position.
    3) Press the ‘E’ key to remove the master key.
    4) Press the ‘Ctrl+-‘ key to move to the other cab.
    5) Press the ‘Ctrl+B’ key to switch in the battery isolation switch.
    6) Save the scenario.

    Resuming the scenario
    1) Resume the scenario.
    2) Press the ‘Ctrl+B’ key to switch out the battery isolation switch.
    3) Press the ‘Ctrl+-‘ key to move to the other cab.
    4) Press the ‘E’ key to insert the master key.
    5) Ensure the AWS change end switch is in the ‘On’ position.
    6) Press the ‘Q’ key to reset the AWS self-test.

Thanks, Peter, haven’t used the 40145 for a while, so that’s good to know, it was the AP 40 I was thinking of.

Did the AP Class 40 not come with included scenarios? When I was last looking through Standard Scenario trains, I didn’t see it listed (can’t remember if it ever was?). (Not at PC at moment so can’t check manual, which of course is no longer on the AP website.)

There are various scenarios listed for it, eg in the North Lancs and South Cheshire, but they only appear under the route and not Class 40. Surely it should be both?

Scenarios for the Steam version were for the Midland Mainline. See DLC: https://store.steampowered.com/app/325965/Train_Simulator_BR_Class_40_40145_Loco_AddOn/

    upload_2023-1-25_13-5-41.png

(Now that I think about it, anyone have these handy? LOL)

And for the AP version...Settle to Carlisle and the SECML were used. See the Internet Archive link. Image in LocoSwap of the Settle to Carlisle scenarios (I still have to reinstall the SECML):

    Bingo you are correct.

And the steam version indeed came with scenarios for the Bedford route. Just had a look at the menu and they are showing

Someone told me there were actually eight scenarios on Steam. Not sure what the second set was, as I show just the one as far as I'm aware.

Why doesn’t the Class 40 show up as an option in Select Loco under the Standard Scenarios, then? Otherwise you have to have the list to hand to know which routes to look under.

I inquired to an owner of the Steam version who tells me the same scenarios came with two versions; one was the full AP experience, and the other is a more slimmed down version "designed to be operated by either the HUD or XBox controller". As the same scenarios apparently came with each, it can be maintained that there were four scenarios, but the same four for each (possibly with slight differences, possibly identical; I may delve into this further).

So that puts that one to rest, next subject. :D

no idea I am a steam owner as well as a AP owner as rail right gave me a copy for free so have them both and I only have 4 scenarios for the steam version and the scenarios listed on the manual for the ap version.
Edit just checked manual for the steam version and only 4 scenarios are mentioned as well not 8

I've got the Railright Steam version. Each of the four scenarios comes in two versions, [ADV] and [HUD] mode. So that's eight.

Ah, so the same DLC. Gotcha. I thought maybe there was a second one I had never seen or something.
