I am new to this game. i am struggling to get started with the trains. Is there some sort of idiots guide that I could use to get myself started as it were. Thanks
You should just start using the Academy tutorials ingame, and reading the manuals of course, I don't think there's any easier way to approach it.
A great way to start on the game is by playing the Academy tutorials. They really help a lot if you are starting the game. They can be found here in the menu.
thank you both. i am slowly getting used to it. i am at a loss though as to why the train seems to stop for no apparent reason.
That might be because of the safety system on the locomotive, take a look at the safety tutorial in the Academy section, there you will learn how to turn them on and off, I remember starting with them off and the turning them on one by one. Note that some locos won't let you turn them off. Depending on what kind of loco you drive ( german, british, american etc. ) you either use "Q" or numpad enter to acknowledge the alarm, on german trains the sifa system will prompt you every 30 seconds, the alerter on american locos I think is every 60 seconds, and the same for the british., if you fail to acknowledge the loco will assume you are unable to drive the train for any reason, and it will bring it to a halt.
