Apologies if I sound dumb, but is there a way to just play through the timetable in order? Whenever I do a timetabled service (or scenario/training for that matter) it always seems to suggest a seemingly random service to play next, and I can't see the logic behind it.

Maybe I'm missing something, but when I do a timetabled service and get my scorecard screen up, I don't then want to go and do a scenario for another locomotive that I've already completed.

Disable Journey autoload and use the timetable menu. At the end of the run select Return to free roam and, if the train does not exit the map, you'll be driving it back on the next service.

Unfortunately there's no option to "play next timetabled service" which would legitimately make sense rather than "go to next step on Journey", which often makes no sense at all

When you complete a timetable mode run, the top option on the results menu is "next step on your journey". I believe this is what the OP is talking about as "illogical"

Yes, exactly. But since Journey mode is useless and half-assed, I suggest looking a bit further down on that list and clicking "Return to free roam", which will allow you to drive the train back or jump in another train that does it.

Journey mode is good in that it can provide an interesting cross section of the route experience (minus the tutorials which can be tedious especially as you can't save progress).
Running pure timetable mode or train hopping is a great concept, but depending on the route it may only be possible to do it a couple of times before the save game fails (or not at all in the case of BML).

Or go back to the menu and choose another timetable mode

Or, DTG could change it so that if you do a timetable run the top button takes you either to the next run undertaken by the same consist, or back to the timetable menu straight away so you can select another run without going through three intermediate steps

Nice try, perhaps, but if the "intermediate steps" were eliminated, other de - forum - ers would just gripe about that. Remember Abraham Lincoln's famous statement? It obviously applies to on-line forums.

    I even share mine ;)

And to the topic: I dont play the timetable in any order, but heard of people who did it.
But I'd suggest to go Back to the menu and select the next service in the timetable, as it could start a few minutes after your first run.
So if you really want to run all timetable services in their order, you have to work your way down the timetable menu and not journey mode or free roam, as the next service might be on the other end of the route.

I'm not sure if by "in order" you mean according to clock start time, or consecutive services with one train.

If the latter, than at the end of the preceding service, after the recap screen, hit "Return to Free Roam"- that puts you right where you already were, in the cab of the train you were driving.

Of course, this may involve a long wait, it may involve changing cabs if it's a reciprocal service, and it might be non-drivable if it just heads out through a portal.

A simple "back to timetable", maybe in addition to "next journey" shouldn't raise too many hackles
