I’m having trouble completing the final part of chapter 1 ‘The Basics’ of Nahverkehr Dresden. I reached Dresden-Mitte and the train refuses to pull away. I can engage the throttle and the blue bar shows the power increasing, but even if I get to power 10, the train doesn’t move. I’ve tried restarting the train and going through the start-up procedure a few times, and always get to the same point. Does anyone have any suggestions? I’ve taken a grab of the UI at that point in case there’s something obvious I’m missing! Thanks.
Hmm some brakes are still on make sure they are fully released aswell as you haven't turned a parking brake on
Thanks. I tried releasing the parking brake - the one on the back wall of the cab. I don’t know if that shows up on the UI screen grab though. Are there any others showing up on there that are on?
the parking brake was a theory it doesn't show up on the hud but if you see the bc that's the brake pressure which shows a little bit of pressure. Have tried doing this mission again and does it repeat
I will try it again at some point - frustrated as it’s right at the end! I don’t know if there’s something showing in the three circle icons at the bottom of the UI - I can’t find any info about what they are showing anywhere though.
So I have now managed to get the train moving forward - but I’m on power 10 and the dial keeps flicking to 0.1kmh - it’s inching forward. Can’t get it to do any more.
Do you have AFB connected by any chance? I have sometimes found that at the start of a journey it would not release the brakes unless I disconnected it.
You have 4.4N of brake force- no wonder your train will barely move! You need to release the brakes- but you can't do that until you turn on the brake key (it's on top of the train-brake valve)
Thanks for the replies to this. Unfortunately, I didn't realise you could only have one save game (I assumed it was one per route) so my progress was saved over. I shall keep an eye out for the AFB and brake keys in future.
All right- looking at your brake gauges, you only have 1.6N in the brake pipe- the only way it would be so low is if you somehow went to Emergency and blew it out, and it's now trying to recharge. 4.4 in the brake cylinder is a full service application, or a slow release from an emergency. The main reservoir is at 9.6- not all that unusual in typical operation,* but can also indicate a system still recharging. Remember: until the system is recharged, the brakes won't release! So it's really a matter of patience: you have to set the brake to Running (not Release), with the throttle off, and wait until the HUD gauges read (top to bottom) 5.0, 0.0, 5.0 and 10.0 (sadly, German trains don't have airflow meters). *releasing brakes, or an emergency application, uses up air; when the MR gets down to around 9N the compressors kick in and re-fill it)
Thanks so much for this explanation! I think you are probably right - if I recall correctly, I did go to Emergency breaking, so this is likely what I needed to do.
