Which is fun, in this leak you can see BNSF logo, depsite DTG not having licence for it anymore.

As was pointed out to me when this first came out: DTG do have a BNSF license - for TS and valid in the US only.

The problem is with bnsf on ts is that if your outside of America you won't get official looks of the trains which I could imagine would confuse people and they would feel its unfair

DTG have the BNSF license now for worldwide releases on Train Simulator so BNSF content could now come to TSW.

Well this is quite a development and opens up a lot of possibilities for some fan-favorite routes.

When did that happen? Did I miss something?

Edit: Nevermind, saw the TS article. Time to look vaguely optimistic towards possible TSW2 BNSF routes :D

This mostly affects western mountain routes, such as Marias, Tehachapi and Stevens, though BNSF does operate commuter services around Chicago and Seattle, albeit branded by Metra and Sounder, for which licensing doesn't currently exist.

So this opens up routes like Cajon Pass and Tehachapi for TSW2, not sure if Marias or Stevens are short enough to fit the bill though.

It improves the chances of Pacific Surfliner in the future, but for that route to be complete, it needs Metrolink.

Assuming that the license allows fallen flags, it also opens the way for ATSF routes and locos such as Raton Pass, which is also an Amtrak gateway route for the South West Chief.

You mean this TS22 route with Amtrak Boxcars. If made Raton Pass Dash 8 becomes base model for Norfolk Southern Dash 8 Horseshoe curve. Alternatively Sand Patch Grade locomotives are also seen in BNSF service for Raton Pass

BNSF doesn't run freight over Raton anymore.

BNSF still owns the line I believe, but Amtraks Southwest Chief is the only regular train on the route.

Not gonna lie, seeing any sort of warbonnets (orignal F-units or the later super fleet) in TSW would be a dream come true for me.

ehz0689 is correct. Dovetail now have a license with BNSF Globally, which can apply in TS and TSW. Previously, they had a TS-only (I presume) license, which applied only in the United States. That's why TS is getting BNSF Globally.

So, there is a BNSF License. But it's a newer one

CrossCountry, yes please! Love the logos and liveries! Though I thought I heard something about it being tricky to licence Arriva brands… is this info outdated?

I’m aware it was found in the game files, was just confused as to the status of Arriva. CrossCountry is by far my most wanted brand in the game; imagine a Penzance to Aberdeen route!

It was true - I'd imagine it is no longer, if Arriva brands are in the files.

Originally the issue was that Arriva were put up for sale by the parent (DB, I think), which made the license very, uncertain.

So, when time came to renew the licenses for TS, they weren't renewed. Something along those lines.

However, considering that the sale was later placed on hold in 2019, and they still belong to DB - who are very open to licensing to DTG, so I'd imagine things would have changed.

Here's hoping it's true though, CrossCountry are an operator I've used (for better or for worse) many a time, and it'd be good to see them represent in TSW.

maybe crosscountry and arriva are coming back, and a penzance to aberdeen route would be WAY, WAY too long for TSW2, right now we can only do a 100 mile route at best, penzance to aberdeen is nearly 700 miles

Oh I know lol. I’d never expect anything like that in Train Sim World. Just a pipe dream is all. Plenty of other CrossCountry routes available- perhaps a more modern Cornwall route, maybe going as far as Exeter?

I wonder if we’ll see more MBta routes like the Franklin line or the Lowell line or maybe a new route like the north Jersey coast for New Jersey transit.

I suspect that any future US passenger routes are going to made with an eye to including Amtrak, which means the mainline, and more specifically the NEC, because that's the only place Amtrak runs more than a couple of trains per day. One likelihood is Washington-Baltimore, provided they can get a license from MARC.

Acquiring the licenses for one game does not necessarily mean that they have been acquired for another

Only way I see it happening is if DTG sets a route around Chicago or LA and has the LD trains as default stock for those routes, and they are layerable into routes where they fit in (Despite the lack of stops) such as the Coast Starlight for Peninsula Corridor or Capitol Limited for Sand Patch Grade. But unfortunately Chicago has Metra Licensing issues and LA has Metrolink licensing issues. (At least BNSF is solved for the Pacific Surfliner.)

Oh yeah, it definitely more likely that other companies but not something we can assume.

Will certainly be interesting to see what's in the pipleine for the UK once steam is released though.

The date code (5) is British Rail era, and that license they have.

I have no idea who if anyone owns the trademarks from the pre-nationalization railways.

I was referring what will be coming after the steam release

Pre-nationalisation trademarks are owned by the National Railway Museum, aren't they?

They just made a BNSF route with TSW 3 so the others could also be possible, or?

  45. AtherianKing

anything is possible, if they have the license and went to trouble to get hold of it, they likely want to use it at some point

when that some point is, could be anytime

I would treat BNSF as a special case - unlike many of the others shown, it was announced when BNSF's license was retained - probably because of the impact it had on Train Simulator.

I would use the Creators Club approved list + TOCs that have featured in game as a reliable way of determining all TOCs they have licenses for. Take this with a pinch of salt, as it could just be future-proofing, or they could have licenses but decide to go nowhere with them.
