In weather I struggle with getting my trains started, I’m supplied with 2 or more Ac4400’s in the last stages of its chapter. How do I get the train moving correctly?

I also lose speed when I reduce power and can’t regain it

I don't run american freight locos often so this may be of no help. When you say two locos is that two at the front or are there any on the back. Check the camera a view at the back of the train and if there are some locos there you'll need to turn on the banking comm which will make the rear locos apply power. In bad weather try applying sand and applying full power. It can take a while for any speed to show on the HUD but if you look at the wheels you might see them start to move very slowly. Also try not to reduce power when you don't need to you'll need all the power you can get when going uphill or trying to set off.
It may also be that you haven't set the brakes correctly ?

I got it figured out, it turns out having brakes in handle off will just prevent movement
