Whoops. Just totalled up what I want from AP and Steam and it's an eye watering £390. I did say my bank balance would take a hit but not that big, lol.
I always have to to tell myself that what I want is not necessarily what I need, nor what I will actually use, leaving aside the issue of space! My TS is still full of routes and trains I bought in previous sales that I’ve still never touched.
I try to run at least one scenario of a route I bought solely as a requirement sometimes it may surprise me and I'll end up playing more, the very first route I purchased as a requirement was the IOW, I gotta say I ended up playing the living daylights out of it, considering how poorly it has aged compared to more modern offerings it just goes to show that some routes just grab you, all you need to do is first try them.
Me too, though in my case most unused routes were bought, during sales, because they are requirements for third-party / Workshop routes that interested me at the time (and often still do). I have, however, finally reached the point where I can stare a Workshop / Third Party route in the face and say, "Sorry, much as I'd like to install you, I don't meet requirements, and that's that." Admittedly, for those routes I do still occasionally double-check missing requirements in case they become ultra cheap.
I will sometimes download a freeware route even if I don't have everything just to see what is missing I have one I'm running and I see odd milk bottles on the ground but they don't bother me If you don't know what should be there you don't miss it - unless it's something obvious
Question about the AP Class 325 Enhancement Pack - I have the old 319/325 Sound Pack, does the new pack have significant improvements on it? Watching YouTube videos about it I'm not convinced there's a huge amount of benefit in the new pack other than 3 scenarios for the 325. Only £5.99 in the sale though.
It would depend on how much you drive the 325 - worth £5.99 if you do a lot but if it's just AI going the other way maybe not.
Just a reminder that there is only 3 days left of the current AP sale, it ends at 23:59 GMT on Sunday the 2nd of January. As an aside, I made the huge mistake of opening the calculator and the AP web page at the same time. I've 25 (of the current 79) pieces of AP content yet to have the prestigious green "You own this" button next to them so like a fool I added up how much these would cost me to complete my AP collection (note: this does not include the base DTG requirements that I require for some of the electric stock). So anyway, at current sale price my shopping cart would total £208.75, and if purchased after the sale ends... £350.75. Yeah, I think a lot of them will be waiting until the next sale (and possibly the sale after), I got my "must haves" this time round so I'm good for now, I'm reasonably confident I wont purchase the whole library because there's stuff there that holds no interest for me.... Oh who am I kidding!
For me, it’s ‘just’ most of the freight wagons, some sound packs, plus most of the EMU EPs (the latter which I’ll no doubt succumb to next year) but I’m done this year after a more modest purchase following on from last year’s, um, spree. Then no doubt, the 80x will be on sale. Is it just the Class 40 that has been removed from sale, or have other items been removed too?
Will be buying more from AP tomorrow as well as BMGs and Steam. As RSSLO ends today, I will add more locos and scenarios from their next sale in February. I can also confirm that SSS sale will end on Monday January 3rd at 10pm.
A number of Sound Packs were removed when Full packs were released Class 150/153/156 Sound Pack (Pro) Class 158-159 Sound Pack Class 31 Sound Pack (Pro) Class 319/325 Sound Pack Class 325 Sound Pack Class 360/444/450 Sound Pack Class 365/465/466 (Met-Cam) Sound Pack Class 37 Sound Pack (Pro) Class 43 (Valenta) Sound Pack Class 455 Sound Pack Class 50 Sound Pack (Pro) Class 86/87 Sound Pack (Pro)
I come across another removed AP item yesterday.. I was confused at first because of this.. but apparently after some searching it seems the 1st one was a DT product
JT sales are very underwhelming, they throw you scraps at best, they seem to think that outdated subpar content is still worth a premium price tag too.
I find that JT offer decent bargains of the items that they show in their streams. Typically those discounts last about a week.
Just Trains sale is on now but only 12 selected products. https://www.justtrains.net/category/christmas-sale-2021
I'm in the same boat - my 500GB SSD which also has my OS on it, only has 13GB left - and most of that is taken up by Train Sim and all the 3rd party content from AP. Don't forget the 375/377 and 421/422/423 sound packs too. It's a shame though as there's content out there that still requires those old packs - too bad if you don't have them. Can't see why AP can't do what SSS do and have a "budget" range - Say if you don't want to spend money on a full EP, just get a sound pack to use with default stock - Some Sound packs are like a mini EP as it allows extra features, for example the Class 92, 442 and 303 sound packs. I think the 303 and 442 allow you to have a changeable destination blind, and the Class 92 has the anounciator scree functional with faults etc.
Geez, that's heaps - It sucks for me because I have to convert pounds into Australian dollars - so I'm effectively paying double. So basically in my money, your purchase would be $725.50 - damn I wish our exchange rate was the same!
I wonder why AP have withdrawn the class 421/422/423 sound pack? I know they have bought out the class 412 but it is a different unit and largely operated on different routes. Unless they are making their own class 421/422/423.
The Budget range would take sales from the main range There is a Class 325 Pack that adds features but I don't drive that unit very much so I'm happy with the 319/325 Sound Pack.
It occurred to me that if AP deletes a product, where does that leave a customer who’s bought the product (and who hasn’t kept the downloaded installation files) installing on a new PC? Presumably the installation files are no longer available to them?
No. Anything you have purchased from AP is still available to download from your account - like the Class 40 The files are not updated though - a bit like if you had downloaded and stored them on an external drive. But things like Branding Packs are not normally available.
With the steam Christmas sale ending on Wednesday 6pm, there may or may not be some items extended. However it has now been confirmed that the Steam Lunar New Year Sale 2022 is from Jan 27th 2022 - Feb 3rd 2022.
Festival of Rail beings on Thursday and last year Steam had a sale during it. Their lunar new year sale begins a week on Thursday and as last years lunar new year was in February last year, they may not have a festival of rail sale as it is only a few days to this years lunar New Year. We shall see!!!
Steam sale has begun for the festival of rail tonight. Some great discounts for TS and up to 75% off on TSW2 items too
Festival of Rail sale now on on Steam until 24th January with upto 90% off TS add-ons (selected items only).
And the Festival of Rail Steam Sale has added Stevens Pass (BNSF) to the worldwide availability list if you haven't seen it in other threads...
The Lunar New Year Steam sale is now on, until February 3rd. Another steam sale will begin on February 21st.
Why is there so little in the sale, do you know? Literally just a handful of stuff. In the Lunar sale last year it was literally everything. Bizarre.
Making me think mayhaps TSW is proving to not be a successful venture. Maybe they should fall back on TS and put more effort into a Class 700 than by reusing PDL Class 450 sounds (speaking of, a model so primitive that the DSD isn't operable).
I wonder if they are now seeing TSW for what it is, an introduction into train simulation, I've lost count of the amount of people both here and on Facebook that have started with TSW and moved to TS when they realise that TS offers so much more. I'm sure that's not what DTG envisioned in fact the polar opposite, just shows the new kid on the block isn't always the obvious replacement for the time seasoned veteran. Anyway sorry, I'm doing a Cyclone, carry on..
Made even funnier due to the fact that we posted within seconds of each other, so I didn't even see Cyclones reply until I'd submitted mine.
Anytime you want to do the Cyclone, feel free. Just don't do it for the dance moves, more the circular rotation (or is that a dance move? ).
TS has many more routes, has steam and narrow gauge etc. TSW is only starting to get its feet wet with the first steam engine not yet released. I think TSW could have a future, but much more needs to be done.
There is quite a bit of TSW2 stuff. The Festival of Rail sale only ended last Monday so that may be the reason and of course another sale will begin 17 days after this one ends.
