Those are bridges in Scotland?! What are they called? Those look very cool, and I was completely unaware of their existence (I'm American, never traveled to UK/Europe).

These are Forth Bridges, located northwest of Edinburgh.

  6. Something is telling me if this is a route hint, it might be the Fife Circle Line. It uses the forth bridge, it is requested often by the community, has DLC potential, Layer potential, is already in TS (Meaning rivet will not need as much research) and is semi-local to rivet

International Men’s Day is on November 19th so I expect the Isle of Man Railway to be released on that day.

Well, the Queensferry crossing's there, so we can rule out a pre-beeching route, and by extension certain possible stops.

I doubt Rivet would have made that 3D model if it weren't part of a forthcoming route.

Forthcoming. I'll be here all week, folks. Don't forget to tip your waitress.

  10. Let me know if I am going crazy, but it looks like an IRL image to me (I have never been to scotland)

That being the case, WTF do bridges or Scotland have to do with Women's Day? I know the men there wear skirts, but....

  13. Thats the question. What does a railway bridge in/or Scotland have to do with Women's day? The only logical explanations are either because Scotland is where rivet is based or a route hint

The same image pilfered from the internet. Happy ‘not everything you see is for TSW’ day. I’d be very happy to see this in TSW2 though if Rivet did want to make it.

They commented - at least on FB that 'the first woman to ever cross the bridge was a woman'. I don't know if that masterpiece of marketing and language is still online but I believe it was a bit unintentional and the context was meant differently... ;)
And it's one of Scotlands most iconic pieces of railway engineering- wasn't Rivet being based in Scotland?
As the RL route isn't run by electrostars and not based south of London I highly doubt it will ever make it into TSW ;)

It was a typo, "The first person to drive a train over the Forth bridge was a woman" was the intended and has now been updated :)

I’ve just checked the tweet… Now was she a plucky trailblazing woman fighting for the right to drive the first train over the bridge and winning thus giving women the right to do that for a living forevermore or was she a dignitary’s wife wheeled out to pretend to drive the train for the bridge opening just for publicity? One of those would be in keeping with what International Women’s Day is all about, the other might be the exact opposite. I’d like to think it was the former and not, as I suspect, the latter. Nevertheless, the first woman to be a woman was a woman and that is worth celebrating, as women are awesome!

Gotta be honest, I was really upset when I saw that tweet - now I know it was a mistake afterwards and has been corrected to be much better but... the initial post seemed to come off as some kind of humour that just read to me as such a flippant disregard of the achievements woman have made in a fundamentally male dominated field. It only takes a quick google to find some really inspirational women in railroading history...

Christine Gonzalez became the first female railroad engineer, operating for Santa Fe, in 1974. She stayed with what ultimately became BNSF until 2012, so it was no fleeting moment either.

Bonnie Leake was the first female engineer at Union Pacific a short while later (same year), with Edwina Justus as the first black female engineer in 1976 leading a strong 25 year career facing all the hate you'd sadly expect throughout.

Sarah Clark Kidder was the first woman to run a railroad in 1884.

Eliza Murfey invented a device called "Packing" used to lubricate a trains axles with oil.

Mary Riggin patented the design for the first Railway Crossing Gate after witnessing a horrible accident, in 1890.

Catherine Gibbon revolutionized how we make train tracks.

Olive Dennis is credited with revolutionizing the passenger experience with such things we take for granted as reclining seats and overhead lighting.

(and that's really only looking in the US)

It's a subject worth reading up on tbh, it turns out there are tons of influential women in railways!

    Matt.

I will say, it would have probably been a better recognition if they actually told us who it was rather than just saying 'a woman'

Wow. So I'm guessing if Rivet or DTG dare to upload a nice railway related picture not to do with anything in development it simply MUST be a teaser. Blimey we get excited over absolutely nothing.

HHAHAHAHA that would have been just perfect had the first person to drive over it not actually been a woman. A flippant take on the inane practice of having day for everything.
