Watching yesterday's preview stream of the Harlem line once again showed a long-lasting problem of TSW routes - trees clipping through the cab. It is somewhat ironic to see this while TSW closes in on its 5th anniversary. 5 years and this (probably rather easy to solve) annoyance is still in the game appearing again and again (ok, haven't noticed it on Sherman Hill TBH ). DTG is focusing on things like track rust (which - don't get me wrong - looks great), yet this is overlooked. Can't you take one tester, have them run the route in both directions on the outer tracks, and write down where a tree went through the cab? Said trees could then be moved/rotated/replaced by someone from route builders. The trees are simple assets, it shouldn't be that difficult and would go a very long way in getting rid of this significant immersion breaker (or more likely cab window breaker).
Yeah, it's truly annoying. I mean just run the route once, write a list of the locations with the cipping trees and move them..
Not to mention the routes where there are bushes growing up through the main line. This is simple snagging work that a 12 year old play tester should be able to spot, if the route builder can't check his/her own work.
Yes, because scenery errors are the fault of the beta testers not picking them up; not the fault of the person who decided it's too insignificant (relatively) to change.
Might be ok on routes like Clinchfield where not many trains were running, definitely not on mainline routes, trees must never get that close to the route, on well kept routes they should even be as far as to not cause problems when fallen.
true but i have seen some fun youtube videos of trains going past some close by trees although the speed was not high there it was an awesome sight
And it would be so easy to fix, there is absolutely no reason to put the trees so close to the tracks
Lines that have tree branches scratching up the side of locos are usually short lines and small tourist railroads which financially can't afford to keep everything trimmed 24/7. Main lines, or even well off tourist lines are usually able to keep trees trimmed back enough where branches don't touch the locos or passenger cars. So regardless of if it's neat or not I don't think it would be that realistic for any of the routes they have in TSW.
I think its a game engine issue rather than DTG issue. Derail valley is somehow worse when it comes to clipping vegetation.
Tell that to the environmentalists who moan about it every time it comes up because jimmy the squirrel's going to lose his home, somehow not realising you can replant trees which is the basics of environmentalism.
That sounds very unlikely to me. Route builders decide where the tree is. If the weather was set to extreme wind and the trees were reacting accordingly, that could be the case, but they are basically a static asset. An asset that is placed incorrectly. No matter what game engine you use, if you place a thing wrong, it stays wrong. I've had some experience around railroads - our friends from a railroad company wanted to cut down trees for safety reasons, environmentalists came in screaming, so they told them "ok, we'll keep the trees, but all damage costs on the trains will be covered by you"... haven't heard from them ever since, trees got cut down, trains pass safely.
