If you’re like me who has absolutely no interest in anything Steam related, then come and have a go in speculating what we might see next, British wise, for TSW.

New routes which I’d like to see:
    - ECML South: London Kings Cross to Peterborough (2010 - Current)
    Potential train DLC: HST, 91, 317, 321, 365, 387, 700, 80X
    - WCML Over Shap: Preston to Carlisle (2010 - Current)
    Potential train DLC: Class 221, Class 390, Class 397, Class 66, Class 68, Class 86, Class 90
    - Liverpool Lime Street to Manchester Piccadilly via CLC (2010 - Current)
    Potential train DLC: 142, 150, 156, 158, 185, 195
    - Bristol Temple Meads to Cardiff Central (Current)
Potential train DLC: Class 80x, HST Castle Set, Class 158, Class 166, Class 170, Class 60, Class 66
    - West Highland Line (2010 - Current)
Potential train DLC: Class 156, Caledonian Sleeper Class 67, 73, MK3, MK5 Sleeper coaches.

Train DLC for existing TSW routes:
    - A popular and quite obvious train DLC would be the TL Class 700 for BML. This would add several services to the already busy timetable and provide more variety on the route.
    - Cathcart Circle, being a quietly brilliant route, I’d like to see the Class 318 and/or Class 320 for the route. It would provide additional services, AI services in and out of Glasgow, as well as the potential to enable 6 car Class 314 services.

I am quite interested in Steam if DTG get it right but then I would like to see them move into the transition era to have the best of both worlds - steam in decline and rise of early diesel and electric traction.

Personally I would like to see more BR (pre 1994 privatisation) era routes with the gaps in classic traction closed (Type 2, Hymek, Warship, Deltic, 56, 58 and 60). I want to see more routes with heavy freight - Mendip Stone, South Wales steel, Yorkshire (Knottingley) coal field.

What I don't want is more Southern Electric with Electrostars, they will rot on the shelf. Let's see some classic DC traction like SUB's, EPB's, VEP's or CIG's. For AC 302 through to 321 Dusty Bins.

The one modern train I might make an exception for is the 397. These look quite smart and watching the Don Coffey cab ride in one from Edinburgh to Carlisle seem to roll along nicely.

what if they did those but all steam era? :P

I would like something like southamton to weymouth but in the steam era. Perhaps do focus on a route then create two era's of scenary and loco's, two birds one stone!

The Ayrshire coastline, with all of the branches, its only around 55 miles with the branch to largs and ardrossan and is one of the few routes not in ts, as well as the class 380 which the ts version is very outdated.

Gotta be honest, unless DTG increasing the amount of stock they include in routes I don't think the transition era would be a good pick. You'd need four locos at the minimum to really depict the transition era, ideally probably more like five or six. If you're stuck with two or three locos tops then I don't see how you're gonna accurately depict that era. Honestly two or three really makes had to do even pure steam of diesel ops justice as is.

WCML Over Shap would be better set in the 80s, including the BR Class 370 APT-P and the BR Class 87. That way we'll get the best British tilting train and a tap changer locomotive. Can also use some of the already existing BR Blue stock for layers too, would be a good long run for the 47s.

I'm personally hoping DTG release a few more steam releases over the coming months. Build up a good collection of historic routes/steam locomotives. Don't mind where or when! The more steam, the better :)

Was thinking of the exact route you listed first, ECML with HST and 91s, superb :)

I would also like to see a HST pack with valentas and a variety of BR blue - IC Swallow, and some older franchise colours. Maybe even the yellow maintenance version. Don't know how loco packs like that can work on TSW though as they tend to have to be tied to routes and then to appear in older ones those routes have to be adjusted.

I found that TS Classic range has quite a cross-over with TSW routes so was looking in there for some clues to future content haha.

Can be done via layers and/or additional DLC, just like happened with TVL and NTP. As the collection expands with one or two locos per route, so does the possible variety.

The route order is probably just as important as route choice to make best use of vehicle development time, i.e. reusing as much rolling stock as possible where appropriate whilst sticking to the usual 'one new, one reused' loco/unit philosophy we have come to expect.

For a start, ECML South seems like a logical choice where the Class 387 can be reused, modified as appropriate into GN livery. The new unit would be the Class 800/801, which in itself would provide reuse as a Class 800/802 in GWR livery for a route such as the Riviera line. That could then include a Class 143 in GWR livery as the 'new' train and then in turn provide reuse as a loco DLC for Tees Valley in 1980's provincial livery.

Another example that I often mention is the North London Line. This would include the Class 378 in LO livery and a Freightliner livery Class 66 with some container wagons. Both of those would nicely provide ample service layers onto a WCML South route where a Class 350 and Class 390 could feature. The Class 350 itself could be reused and modified from a Class 450 included with any SWR/SWT area route released before, which for good measure should include a Class 444 as well due to them both being of the same train family.

(I can think of many other examples but must remember that good things take time and I shouldn't get too carried away with ideas that inevitably would accumulate into decades worth of DLCs).

No more Electrostars, please... :) Just completely unappealing.

If they do the North London Line, set it in the 70's with 501's, re-open Broad Street and throw in Camden Road to North Woolwich with a Cravens DMU.

I'll throw in my top hopes (not in order)

    ECML South (Modern-ish)
London - Peterborough + Northern City Line (~80mi)
    Class 91, 313, 365, 387, 43

    Inverclyde Line (Pre-2019)
Glasgow Central - Gourock and Wemyss Bay (~32mi)
    Class 380, 314

    Ayrshire Coast Line (Modern)
Glasgow Central - Ayr, Ardrossan and Largs (~50mi)
    Class 380

    Liverpool - Manchester (Modern-ish)
    Class 150, 142, 156 (perhaps)

    Edinburgh - Glasgow (Modern)
    Class 385

    West Highland Line Extension (Modern)
    Fort William - Mallaig
    Class 156 + Jacobite DLC

    As for loco DLCs:

    700 (BML + SEHS)

I think it's about time we got something fresh like the WCML or the ECML but the cynical part of me thinks its gonna be yet another 3rd rail route.

I’d like to see some British routes that are not already available in TS1. Here are two suggestions I have:

C2C Network: London Fenchurch Street to Southend and Shoeburyness via Basildon or via Grays
Set in present day with the class 357 and class 387

    FD9906FA-EB0A-4A55-B19A-A51ADB75B347.png

London Overground Lee Valley Lines: London Liverpool Street to Enfield Town, Cheshunt, and Chingford
Set in 2020 with the class 710 and either the class 315 or 317

I'm torn between either the ECML between London-Peterborough which would be ideal with a LNER Class 91and HST along Great Nothern Class 365,387 313 and 717 and also through in the Thameslink class 700 and the WCML either over shap in BR blue era or with the 370 and Class 87 or getting a different portion of the ECML in modern era with Avanti West Coast Class 390 221 Freightliner Class 66 or Class 70 maybe a DRS Class 68 or Class 88 if DRS are willing to let there license be used and also West Midlands Class 350 and Southern Class 377 just because the constant 3rd rail routes are burning me out

    My top three are:

    - ECML South: London Kings Cross to Peterborough (2010 - Current)
    Potential train DLC: HST, 91, 313, 365, 387, 700, 80X

    - Midland Mainline: London to Bedford (2010-Current)
    Potential train DLC: 700, HST, 220, 180, 360, 319, 66

    - Midland Mainline: Leicester to Derby/Nottingham (2010-2020)
    Potential train DLC: HST, 220, 180, 66, 158, 170

Biggest wish for loco DLC right now is the 700 for either Southeastern High Speed or BML.

    Some ideas:

ECML London to Peterborough or London - Cambridge, with Moorgate branch and Hertfood Loop.
With the class 700 and 717, and re-using the 387.

    Thameslink
East Croydon or London Blackfiars - Bedford with class 700.

    West Anglia Route
London Liverpool St - Cambridge, with Hertford East Branch and Stansted Airport with class 379, 317 and 720

So many to choose, but I’d personally like to see Manchester to Crewe both lines via Airport and/or Stockport.
Metropolitan or Piccadilly Line out of Uxbridge.
    Birmingham Cross City
    Chester to Holyhead
    Cardiff to Pembroke

I can’t work out why ECML and WCML are not represented when so many people ask and DTG previously confirmed them as most asked for

I would like to see a modern DMU such as the 180 (maybe in FGW Barbie for GWE) or a Voyager/Meridian if we ever get a route that has them running.

I suspect it may be due to the amount of rolling stock required for them.

Let's just take the southern sections of the routes:

For the WCML, for a 'full' experience you'd need the 390, 350, 710, 377 and 72TS - we only have one (not including the 377 as it's the dual voltage version)

    For the ECML, you'd need the 800/801, 387, 717 and 700 - or backdate it a few years and have the 313, 387, HST, 91 and 365.

Note the bold there, ECMLS could use the existing models for the 387, 313 and HST and adapt then into their Great Northern and LNER versions, and then brand new 365 and 91 units - with a 321 or 317 coming as later DLC.

Whilst that's ambitious, it's far easier than making four new pieces of rolling stock, and could give the stock - particularly the HST - a new playground to run on.

In short; I feel like the ECML South is coming. The question is when.

For routes I'd like to see
Plymouth-Exeter St. Davids with the Tamer Valley line
Either in the 1990s or mordern day
    Rolling stock
If set in the mordern day: Class 802, Class 158 and Class 150 with the 166 and 66 layering in
If set in the 1990s: Class 47 in intercity swallow, Class 43 in intercity swallow and Class 150 in regional railways.
    London King's Cross-Peterborough
    In the present day
Rolling Stock: Class 801/1 and 2, Class 717 and Class 700 with class 255 being a possible dlc
    Edinburgh- Perth
    In the present day
Rolling Stock: Class 43, Class 170 and Class 158
And trains I'd like to see
Class 700: For BML layering onto SEHS
Class 320: For the Cathcart Circle Line
Class 47: In intercity swallow with intercity coaches replacing the br blue Stock on West cornwall local
Class 43: In intercity swallow for west cornwall local
    Class 180: For GWE

The Class 365 could count as a part-build since they are similar to the Class 465 in many respects. Note that DTG modelling the 25kV AC power mode on the Class 387 may be a clue (why model it if there's no route where it could be used?).

Personally I think the route would be best with the Class 387/1 and Class 801 to start with, as these are the new train types seen most commonly. A later stock pack could then introduce the older Class 365 and Class 91/Mk4 stock. Even better if we got a Class 700 for BML first to layer on here also. They could call it "Train Sim World 2: East Coast Electrics"

Not sure how the Moorgate services could be represented (if the branch were to be included) as you'd need a Class 717 ideally (part-build from the Class 700?). The Class 313 could then make an appearance in the aforementioned stock pack.

Maybe sneak in a LNER HST for good measure? (There's already an LNER HST DLC for TS using the TSW model).

My main concern is the route length being around 80 miles, whilst long there's not a significant quantity of stations to model and I feel like such an undertaking would be a good challenge for the team to push the limits of the sim, similar to what London Commuter has done and what Spirit of Steam is doing.

I was pleasantly surprised, as well as a bit suspicious, as to why DTG went to the extra work of modelling the AC physics as well as including the AC sounds for the 387.

I’m convinced we’ll see a route featuring the Class 387 on AC in the near future. The obvious choice would be Kings Cross to Peterborough.

That is a good point. Other than novelty reasons in scenario planner, why else would dovetail model the AC functions on the 387? It seems pointless to model a train with full AC Functions for a route that has not even a millimetre of overhead wire on it. My guess is that Dovetail may use the BML 387 as a base for another 387, potentially for GWE (although that is the wrong era) or ECMLS.

I am quite convinced that we will see a route with the 387 in the future, considering a UK Route is in the cycle to go on the roadmap. I think we will get at least 1 UK route before Spirit of Steam. The last UK route added to the Roadmap (not included rush hour) was West Cornwall Local - Almost a year ago. - And it was not from DTG. - so a UK route being added to the roadmap soon is not improbable

I would like to south western railway. London Waterloo -Reading,Basingstoke, Guilford.
the Portsmouth harbor line and probably too long for TSW 2.
This will probably rival the brighton line as far as services offered

No more electrostars would be a start.
Then I'd really love to see the Riviera line in the 50s and Settle to Carlisle,, but not shorter than what is depicted in TS classic. I love 'em, but please don't cut them...

Probably because they know they can't release a short stretch as usual. 30-40 miles of those would cause an uproar and they probably can't afford another one.
IMHO these two are on standby, until they figure out a way to make them the proper length. They either developed the tech needed to make route building faster, or stop caring and release the usual 40 mile bugfest. Let's see what happens first :)

If they do they have to model king cross really good, like how they did for the London Victoria terminal. But King-cross the biggest terminal station in UK, I believe

Absolutely agree with you here on these suggestions. My main wish is also for the Class 700 - would be so awesome to go from Bedford or Peterborough and then down to Brighton (via London Commuter). Would make it feel a very immersive experience, plus it would be interesting with the AC vs DC power etc.

My own additional request is for the West Coastway between Brighton and Barnham with the Bognor and Littlehampton branches as it would exist nicely to link up with LC and ECW, plus it would be great for a new route with the 313.

I respect your opinion, but you please have to respect those of us who do really like such routes/rolling stock from the region and would like more of such in the future - following newer routes from elsewhere of course. While I'm not a fan of historic routes and steam, I'd never want them not to be made because I know people will really enjoy such, otherwise it would be unfair. If you don't like a route, then you don't have to play it.

For that route, layers are from BML ECW Class 377/4s ECW 313. Remember BML has Littlehampton as a destination but you are missing the Arun Valley Line Three Bridges Horsham Littlehampton to link BML with WCW so that you can drive a London Victoria to Littlehampton Trips

There would also be a GWE Class 166 layer that would add a couple services to/from Brighton.

Littlehampton services connect onto the BML directly from the WCW between Hove and Preston Park. Southern's Arun Valley Line services operate to Bognor, Portsmouth and Southampton from Victoria, not Littlehampton.

If we're lucky we'll get one on the roadmap before steam, but there isn't a chance we'll see one made and released before then - Steam seems to be coming along quite well at this point, so can't be ages away.

Manchester to Piccadilly - BR BLue

    or

West Highland - Modernish with Caledonian sleeper stock.

Quick ? re steam when it arrives - Do we think they will make it be easy to use the engines on heritage lines (eg WSR to kick some life back into it - it has a turntable for goodness sake that we use to turn class 47s!) ) or will they be locked to the lines as usual?

I don't think we'll get another UK route before Spirit of Steam, they would have announced it by now. Instead I think we got an extra US route (Harlem?) whilst the loco building team works on implementing steam. DTG seem to have a loco developer shortage at the moment, which could explain the drought in loco DLCs and recent routes featuring few new locos/vehicles.

My hope being that we'll see a shorter modern UK route after SOS that would take less time to develop, appearing at the end of summer, then moving onto a bigger project such as ECML South for a year end/early next year release.

The Class 700 is near inevitable at this point, especially with the recent release of a TS equivalent and AP having acquired sounds.

I'd place my bets on saying a West Highland Line route will be a Rivet Games product and will be the Fort William to Mallaig section like their TS version. They're a Scottish company with all the reference material at hand to work from already, and being a frequent request I'd say it's more than likely to appear soon, possibly after this next Swiss route if Rivet are alternating between UK and Swiss routes in their releases.

Funny I was just musing about my trips over the WCML in the 80s. Got that lovely electric whine drifting back from the loco, especially the 87s when rheostatic braking. Really want to emulate that. The two northern sections of the WCML in TS are very good, but showing their age and suffer from the usual lack of scenarios. DTG need to go the distance (literally) and give us the 100 miles from Glasgow to Carlisle or slightly less from Carlisle to Preston. Even if the retail price is higher, £29.99 or even £34.99, think I would pay it.

A completely selfish view but I'd want any route to be in BR Blue. :)
