I noticed in the Festival of Rail running order that the Tohoku line is mentioned - I'm guessing it's coming to steam soon?
Just letting you know its not new its already in the store already. Its by JustTrain https://www.justtrains.net/product/tohoku-high-speed-rail-and-main-line
I knew it was out with JT, seeing it on a DTG stream made me wonder if it was coming to steam. When I pick it up I'll probably go through JT as I'm hopeful that the unsceneried Akita line will get filled in (with an E6 to use on it)
From the looks of it, its being run by a Youtuber that day (Drawyah) not someone from DTG themselves, so they are most likely only showing off the Justrains release of it, though it could be a way of teasing the steam release of it.
Well I'm really hoping they get it to Steam soon. They said it should come, but not before new year, so I suppose a january or february release is not unlikely.
Same, though I wonder if the 2 additional liveries (The H5 and the other one) will be part of the steam release. Hopefully a DTG live article will be written for the release as well.
Judging by the Steam page description, the two additonal liveries don't seem to be included? Also I've ran into a few issues on my first runs. On the second scenario the player's 701 series train is supposed to be 4 cars, but instead it's just 3 cars and an uncoupled single car a few meters back. If you leave it there, the scenario will end half way there due to the AI colliding with it. If you reverse into it to couple up, you get an operational error, but at least you can take it with you and you can finish the scenario. The gangway cover piece on the front of the 701 also keeps flashing, just like it did on the 105 series on Wakayama Line. The scenery is also a bit meh, performance is pretty bad, and apparently there are no sunny bright weather scenarios for the 701 series. All of them are either at early morning in the dark, or in the rain, or at winter. Surely they could've give us at least once bright run with the 701...
The liveries are there, but are never mentioned. Also Quick Drive is broken for the route as no stations are listed in the menu. Scenery seems like it was sacrificed in some areas, though the stations themselves seem nicely modeled. Weird thing is that the Tazawako Line is also on the map, but its only basic trackwork and no scenery.
Is that the secton on the top of the map going to the west? If so, I was wondering what it was. Maybe they planned to include it at first, as it runs pretty much the same stock? And yeah, I also find the scenery a bit lacking. Though I mostly play TSW nowdays, so that also affects my judgement, but I feel like The Forest Rail and Wakayama Line had better scenery than the more recent routes like the Tadami Line and this one. In any way, it's nice to have a new japanese route with a new EMU and a Shinkansen! As for the bugs/issues, what is the best way to report them? Via DTG with a support ticket, or reach out to Union Workshop by email or something?
I can confirm the second scenario. I took a look after a failed run and asking around on Discord and came to learn that the fourth car indeed is left at the station. I've taken video and sent it to the Support channel, and may also send it to Just Trains. The video will not be published on my channel as I would like to show it after update if I play the scenario (it's also missing a single stop before Morioka and thus 200 of the 1,000 points). You can couple the car at the start before opening the doors (by the way, that's an Op Error), but there is a possibility this makes you late as well. I also suspect a problem with the signal as, in my video, I watch the AI train blow right by a red signal. Is this an old Kuju signal bug coming back to haunt new projects? I need to check some WCML North occurrences of trains causing AI collisions to see.
Did you manage to finish the scenario after picking up the fourth car? Because even if I couple it up, I can progress a bit further (no AI collision), but later on I always get a "Moved train while door open" error after stopping at Morioka - even though the passenger loading is finished and my doors are closed. I've tried several times but I can never progress and finish the scenario.
Well I can try, but when I pay 35 euros for a route, I'd expect it at least those few scenarios it comes with to work. Couldn't they be bothered to test run them once? Also what in the hell is this on the third rainy scenario? This route is a joke... Edit: Apparently this is caused by the 64 bit version. In the 32 bit version the weather looks fine. But still... Does noone playtest these?
Do not have that route, but maybe you have Dynamic Clouds turned off. If so, TS falls back to using 2D TimeOfDay files, which in this case are... bad.
No it seems like the 64 bit version breaks the weather in this scenario. Tried it in the 32 bit version and that way it had proper fog to go with the rain. I will continue playing this route in the 32 bit version, but still, this is pretty bad quality control
Keep cool and create support tickets. Chances are high that the issues will be fixed by Union Workshop. But posting in the Tohoku thread in the DovetailGames Live Article Discussion will probably get more attention.
Yeah, that's what I will do. I mean I could just refund and forget about it, but I'd like this route to be good.
Not specifically about this route Amazing the amount of people who say "new route coming to TS2022 - must buy" And then when they do it is not as good as they expected I have been caught out in the past by the hype about a new DLC And I now prefer to wait for other peoples reviews on what the good and bad point are.
I think, for some people, it comes down to they like having the place to drive around, even if something is not perfect. It's more likely a route will be a must-buy than a loco, because a loco can be easily screwed up. But provided you have good tools or have someone able to make custom assets, you can put together a nice playground for players (it then comes down to the track and signal scripting, of course), and then you have the same problem of the included train being good or bad. But provided the playground is nice, you can drive other trains there anyway. Not so with a loco pack.
Usually I agree with you, but previously I enjoyed all of Union Workshop's japanese routes, so I had faith in them. Sadly their quality seems to go down, their previous Tadami Line and Hidaka Line routes also had a few issues, though smaller issues than these ones. In comparison, their Forest Rail and Wakayama Line routes are pretty much perfect.
The Tadami issues, I think, boiled down to issues with AP files and how the game uses them. Those have been corrected. I've now realized Just Trains routes on Steam likely have the same issue and am curious to research this in more detail.
Really? Can you tell me more about this? It's been a while since I last played any of the two routes, but I remember Hidaka Line having missing textures on some bridge pillars for example, and Tadami having at least one scenario that I couldn't complete because at the last station it won't allow me to load passengers and finish.
It was in a thread back in December or so. The version of the East Asia assets that came with Tadami had a different name, but similarly named files, as one that came with three other UW routes. Research was done, e-mails were exchanged with UW, and the information led to an update that put the same file on all four routes. That fixed the problems, just like we predicted. Why the second set of files caused problems is a long explanation.
