I am curious what you all think. In my opinion - it is easier now. Perhaps better, in terms of gameplay. More prototypical? I don't know. solid update - GJ DTG Out of protocol - I like recent skybox changes. BR o7
I wish they would get rid of all but the most up to date locomotive model or at least name them better. I never know if I’m playing with the correct/better model.
^^ This. We've just got a patch to the DRE 143 which makes it more up to date (and better than) the more recent DCZ 143 - go figure. When I first loaded DRE after today's patch I picked the wrong version of the 143 to drive and wondered what had changed. We also have 5 version of the 4th Gen Dostos all broken in various different ways. Just fix one version of each loco and provide a plugin for it separate from the routesz then bundle it when someone buys a route which needs it.
Yeah I have that, but with reskins you just can't tell which version its based on, as the thumbnail is a generic icon.
I think this is a product of the "version control" that was discussed in the 5th anniversary stream, there are clear advantages to having a particular version of an item and being able to change it without changing everything else, but equally it is a pain to have several of each type and not be able to differentiate them easily. I think the issue is that without versions then it would be harder to change anything because they would have to test the new loco on every single route, timetable and service to make sure it didn't break anything. I guess tutorials and scenarios would be key here as they have specific instructions for that version of the stock. Hopefully the way forward is to make it more obvious which is which from the menus by changing the icons or graphics slightly or even having some control over the ordering of the locos along the bottom (which seems to be random).
Well then they should do the tests. They would only have to retest a few routes anyways. I mean we pay dtg for a reason
yeah but you don't though do you? You pay for the work that went in to initially creating routes and locos, you certainly don't pay to then keep all content up to date including an ever increasing number of tests each time something gets updated. This issue only increases each time the loco is used on another route and then updates get back-filled onto existing content. If we imagine say in 5-10 years time if the current pattern continues there will be say 6 route teams working on new routes and a preservation crew that is now looking after nearly 100 different DLCs and still putting things that were developed 4 years prior on all the old routes. You'd have to imagine that either: a) another train simulator game had come out and engine work stopped on TSW meaning everything worked but it would never get any better (like TS now) and old routes would only get modders support rather than official updates, unless they were paid re-releases. b) the preservation crew would dwarf the size of the new route teams and the amount of content you had to download each year would be 90% updates and 10% new items. This would need to be paid for!
Well how do the preservation crew get paid. By OUR MONEY obviously and there job IS to keep old dlc's up to date with the latest featues. Sure dtg have investors but we pay them by buying DLC's. How do the people who make patches get paid. By our money. Don't act like our money doesn't go to these places because they do.
