You know, I did have a feeling that the Mk1's would come in two different liveries and it looks like they will. Also noticed that the bogies on these Mk1's are different on these ones compared to the ones currently in game right now.

I think (assume) they are the BR mark 1 bogies as originally fitted, many were rebogied during their time with British Rail.

They do look good and I am glad there is more than one livery, I do like the shot of the corridor on the compartment coach.

The coaches ought to have the ashtrays. This is 1958, everybody smoked!

Hard to see but it looks like they have got the second class moquette correct.

They look lovely - I just hope we are also getting a catering vehicle(s) to complete the set as really essential on the long distance services.

Nice dovetail got the b1 bogies right. I tink they were restricted to 90mph.

Very nice looking liveries, the interior of the first class carriage has a really good period feel to it. I agree with Old Vern, a restaurant coach needs to be included, certainly for such an important mainline route.

The huge signal box is quite funny and shows the limits of the model kit they used, looks like it is one layer too high. The coaches look really nice and that first class interior is gorgeous.

Is the first class coach interior using a new lighting method or approach? It feels a lot more atmospheric and realistic than the current over-bright, clinical lighting in passenger coaches.

This demo video of the wheel blur on dovetail live is interesting, the animation of the valve gear and coupling rods is very nicely done. See link from roadmap:-

Excuse my ignorance, but what's the reason for the different liveries?

Indeed some coaching stock was still running in carmine and cream livery well into the 1960's. I suspect some pre-nationalisation designs were withdrawn in that livery and never received maroon.

There were various types of Mark One catering cars, the RMB being the basic buffet with a pantry and counter in what was essentially a modified TSO, so the remaining accommodation could be used as normal seating. Then you had several types of restaurant and kitchen cars, depending on the level of catering provided on the service.

There were never any purpose built Mark 2 catering cars. A number of "TSOT" conversions were made with a very small servery at one end of a TSO, for secondary routes such as Waterloo to Exeter. So even on WCML expresses in the 70's and early 80's formed of Mk2 Air Con stock, you would still find a Mark 1 catering vehicle in the formation, though running on Commonwealth or B4 bogies to allow 100 MPH. The first new catering vehicles arrived with the Mark 3 coaching stock build, either as part of a HST formation or running in loco hauled formations on the WCML.

My favourite was the Griddle Car - particularly happy memories of breakfasts on the up Royal Highlander from Inverness (they didn't run to Liverpool, of course).

Takes me back to the tavern car from Rivet for their Rhb collection on TS20XX. I kinda hoped for that to be in a future dlc for TSW, those are perfect for the new walk and explore features in it, compared to TS20XX.

Speaking of that, who else already gets excited for driving the steam train in first person, not shielded away from the outsides by a heated cab, seeing the scenery rush by as the loco shakes at higher speeds? I'm so excited for that experience.

Plus platform ends where locos stand on a train should have oil, coal dust and ash overspill on the track.

I fear we may be expecting too much!

I imagine the track will be something similar to how the track on Northern Trans-Pennine was done. They did include black, oily tracks in some areas on that route.

you mean a motorail wagon. One matching this route is the Inverness to Penzance via Crewe motorail services. To shunt them an LMS Ivatt Arthur class steam locomotive or the 4MT Belle DLC locomotive these are usually operated by an LMS Black Five Henry class steam locomotive or Newer 1950s type like a 9F Murdoch

Because this route is set in the late '50's, there's no reason for it to be squeaky clean like most TSW routes. It should be at least as dark, dirty and grimy as NTP or TVR. I hope they get the landscape right with polluting smokestacks, old factories, old cars and passengers with appropriate clothing. None of your usual TSW leather jacketed, yuppy software engineers etc .We need some old- before- their- time working men with flat caps and roll your own smokes drooping from their lower lips.

I hate to bang on about it (I don't really) but I hope they've reconsidered and added a third locomotive (even if it's as additional DLC) to tackle the local traffic and shunting.

I'm looking forward to getting stuck back in with TSW but I have to admit with the lack of UK content it's gone well off the boil for me recently.

It will be interesting to how they portray women as well. Female passengers in Rush Hour etc mainly seem to be wearing trousers but if they are going to be doing an authentic route which DTG have claimed then just about all the women should be skirts and dresses no?

While there's not much on the SoS stream from March Madness today (timestamp @ 1:07:50), as it's more of a recap so far. But, there's a few added details that's not been mentioned before, so far.

-Recreated the timetable from a book for the time period (and not making it up as before)
-Took a year to get references for this route
-Every Signal Boxes are made of newly made kit parts to fit all of them on the route (as seen from the images above)
-New Character clothing to fit the 1950s (for those that were wondering)
-And no layers, for the stocks, being added to other routes (for now)

[Might of missed a few more from this, but that's what this route is at this point. And there will be more behind the scenes later on]

That is unfortunate about the Mark One coaches. This route would have been the perfect opportunity to expand the range. So what are we getting, then - a BCK and a CK*? Hardly representative of the stock that would be seen on trains in and out of Liverpool or Crewe, both local and express. At the minimum there should be a catering vehicle even if just a humble RMB and according to the timetables that were linked earlier in the discussion, Liverpool also had night trains to and from London which conveyed sleeping cars.

I was looking forward to an expanded range of Mark Ones almost as much as the steam traction and I feel quite disappointed that they can't allocate a bit of developer time to knock together a few more representatives of the type.

    * I assume they will also be rekinning and retroing the TSO's from WSR.

It should be noted that they only said that the Mk1's would be coming in two liveries. Nothing I think was mentioned about what types of Mk1's would be coming with this route. From what I could gather, this route (at the moment), will come with three types of Mk1's. The FK, the BSO and in a image shown not in tonight's stream but on the last roadmap stream, there is a TSO variant as well. Specifically, in this one off in the background.
    BR Mk1's.PNG
Whether there will be more types of Mk1's, only time will tell (although I do feel like this route should also come with a BG version as we already have that in Northern Trans-Pennine which could easily done in the style of these Mk1's for this route, probably for TPO stuff I would presume if that did run on this route back in the day).

Some other things that was mentioned:
    • Period clothing on the passenger, as well as cars from the era.
    • Water & coal facilities will be functional
    • New HUD for firing side
    • Will come with some more complex tutorials on how to drive and fire the locos, as well as one for the signalling on this route
    • Proper confirmation that the 2-axle box van from Northern Trans-Pennine's Br Heavy Freight Pack will be coming with this route as well.

I think i saw a FK "first corridor" coach and a bso, and for sure not reused from wsr.

The wsr mk1 bso & tso have commonwealth bogies, while sos mki are equipped with the original b1 spring leaf bogies. (90mph)

The mk2 in tsw have b4 bogies, and even if most bg coaches were equipped directly to b4, there were batches with commonwealth bogies like represented in tsw.

The jump from commonwealth to b4 was kind of the "saving cost" & better wear and tear by a british inhouse product (b4), instead of the us patent cast iron commonwealth.

For me it fine, except they could have added a buffet or restaurant coach.

There might be more Mk1 Coaches down the line, who knows indeed (and yes I did misheard the liveries as actual coaches, my bad).

Thought looking at how many locos and stocks that are made for this route now (minus the 12T van from Heavy Freight), that's almost 10 new equipments made for this period. So while there might be at least 3 Mk1s already made (FK, BSO and TSO), not sure if they can do more for the express and locals on this line, it might just gonna be the 3 for this route like NTP (and the lesser reused Diesel Legends).

[Though, I would be surprised if they were 4 Coaches added in]

Not sure if Commonwealth bogies were fitted as early as 1958, hence my reference to WSR re-use having to be retro fitted.

As regards the rest didn't watch the stream so I may have misinterpreted the reference to two types in my previous post and it looks like the post I saw it in has been edited to remove it.

    Guess we wait and see...

I very much doubt we'll see any Mk1 sleepers in 1958 they had only just started rolling out (I think the first ones where delivered late 1957). And whilst I don't have a source to confirm but I'd be fairly certain that the high profile Scottish Sleepers would have been the first to get the brand new Mk1s and lesser routes such as Liverpool would have been towards the end of production around 63.
Even if they were present IRL I can't see the benefit of taking up Devs time for a coach which would only run 2 services.
