RIP Stephen Wilhite, genius coder, inventor of the .GIF, fallen to COVID. One of the great contributions to the web.

If you wonder why here - he was a well-known, dedicated railway modeller!

And if you want to remember him properly - honour his request to pronounce it .JIF, not .GIF!

Yes, his " Webby " was thoroughly deserved.
Watch his acceptance " speech " on You Tube.

He may have invented it, but it's still wrong
    • In English, G followed by short I is always hard (gilt, gift, gimbal, git), except in some foreign loan-words (e.g. gin)
    • The acronym is for Graphics Interchange Format, and the G in graphic is hard.

Hair splitting at its finest. Since Stephen invented the GIF, I think he has earned the right to have it pronounced his way.

I think it could be argued it is a foreign loan-word ;)

Think this would better to fit in off topic

This should really be in off topic.
