What's confused me about this update is NOTE: Due to the clocks going forward for the UK this weekend, all streams will now be at 19:00UTC, rather than 20:00UTC. Up to 30 minutes ago I was clueless that the clocks had gone forward in the UK. The most shocking part of this is that I am in the UK and slept through it (or not as the case maybe)
It is easier to miss it nowadays since your cellphone and computer will adjust the clock automatically. Even the alarm clock that I use to wake up adjusted automatically. The only clock that I had to manually adjust was the one in my car.
So the U.K has a daylight savings time of sorts like we do in the U.S. Interesting. Even I don't notice when the clock changes.
You would think so, wouldn't you... Unfortunately people seem to hold him to his word no matter which "brand" he's streaming under
I bought the route of the town I live in even if the main railway structure (a really old wrought iron bridge right next to a level crossing) is completely wrong in game (a blue box bridge) And this is only about two miles from DTGs offices!
In any case, it was on his personal stream where the lack of cab car for the BR101 first came out I believe.
Couldn't agree more, and Kudos to both Matt and Adam for coming and facing the music every few weeks! One thing that seems to have "fallen by the wayside a bit" are the instructional ones. You know, Matt with two hours of powerpoint... Personally I think you and Matt explaining in layman's terms what the packs do, how they work and how to get things moving would be a good counterpoint. Possibly even as much fun as that time Matt's console crashed and Nat had to do the driving... Personally I think the whole balance of the streams you have is pretty good, with the fun, factual and misc all in there and I totally agree it can't always be "what's broken this week", because that gets really tedious really quickly. Between releases, roadmaps, 4UPs etc it gives a good "vista" of what DTG get up to
Probably... As I say, doesn't matter what brand he's under, people will take what comes out of his mouth literally...
Congress is currently debating whether to make Daylight Savings Time permanent. The Bill already passed the Senate.
Also, I think it untrue that "JD doesn't really like trains"- his comments on SoS and its engines were knowledgeable, by someone who has either done his homework, or simply likes the material. You don't need to observe that the Jubilee and 8F were both Stanier designs if all you are doing is a sales pitch.
Yeh I know. Amen to that. It passed unanimously in the senate although some senators weren't even aware of the bill would be introduced to the floor for passage in the senate when it passed with no objections hence why it passed without objection. If more senators knew about it, it probably would've been a objection and therefore wouldn't have passed unanimously. I hope it passes the House of Representatives and President Biden can sign it into law. It wouldn't go into effect if it became law until November 2023 to give companies, airlines and railways to adjust their schedules. I'm sick of changing the clocks back and forth and Earth doesn't rotate back and forth every year. Anyways this is getting a bit off topic lol
I bet it would be more entertaining than what we get at the moment, lol. Surely anyone who puts themselves in the public eye in front of a camera is open to criticism and especially when they are selling something? I'm not talking insults but criticism. If someone thinks someone is not very good on the stream are they not entitled to say so? I think I disagree going by his streams in the past and he has admitted he was never into Trains. As for the SOS stream, anyone can read up a few facts from a book no? I recall on one of JD's quiz streams he was on about ditching all the 'train questions', sums it up for me.
Not to labour the point, but the removing the Trains round from the quiz was actually due to player requests, as they were too hard/niche, as well as trying to find different Trains rounds was becoming a challenge after doing 12 months of it - the 'guess the underground station between these two other stations' round was a particular low point. I do rounds based on feedback, so if you'd like to request a round/suggestion, always open to it.
I found removing the 'train' questions a bit questionable as it was the 'trains' that the community had it common. I think it was Jamie who did the questions no? I think that is where the problem lies. How about questions on Trains in TSW2? How about questions on when it all began? I confess I don't watch any more, I don't pretend to be an expert on Loco's either just sems a bit daft to me not to have a Train round when Trains unite the community.
Guess the release date (historic dlc) Where do xxxx service run Bhp of trains Name that route feature Journey times between stations to nearest 2-5min
Guess the class - show pictures of trains with the numbers obscured. Guess the operator - liveries with logos or names removed Guess the station - from a photo with name obscured Guess the country etc. Maybe even hint at future content with one of the answers.
I wish you did. The first couple of streams after our time change, I tuned in at 2:00 and wondered where everyone was before remembering that the gap is 5 hours now. Hear, hear! And anyone who thinks U.S. freight is boring should really check out the last 4-Up Challenge. Hard-to-follow chaos at the beginning leading to a genuinely nail-biting finish, with much hilarity throughout.
(Also, important to note that we haven't done a quiz where there hasn't been a trains round, I was more thinking aloud as that particular one was pretty dire - I've written the last few months' worth). Can't do pictures due to limitations with QuizKit, and they all need to be multiple choice. Thanks for the suggestions - some may work, some not. It sounds like it's here to stay, due to popular demand - now come along to the next one and try your luck!
DTG JD isnt there an app called Kahoot that could be used. it supports picture reveals I believe. We've had over 50 of us on it at work. Free to download, can run through a browser and it is accessible by a moderator released code. pretty intuitive. Worth mentioning on off chance it's useful
Respect to you for this response. Puts a lot into respective. There's definitely nothing wrong with anyone's personality, especially yours, I've grown quite fond of everyone that's appeared on stream even when they're being grilled and roasted. I just hope everyone is being themselves and not trying to force on a personality to appear relevant/appealing to the audience. Admittedly I haven't been around for recent streams, mostly due to work/life commitments, but I have wondered sometimes on some occasions if the streams might be a bit too much and are perhaps struggling to find things to do that's actively engaging if that makes sense. Like you say people are taking personal time to do these streams and doing 4 a week, especially during busy periods can be tiresome, but I could be completely wrong. We know Matt loves his chill streams and everyone does seem passionate. I personally would suggest 2 streams a week, 1 for TS and 1 for TSW. Workshop Wednesdays should definitely stay. As for TSW perhaps that could be split into 2 parts, an hour each. The first half could perhaps go over previous DLC in detail. This could cover more detailed tutorials and route/loco learning (this can take up the whole 2 hours if necessary). The second half could perhaps focus on queries/questions from the community (only about current DLC) including logging 1 or 2 bugs (that haven't been logged). Then any other additional streams can be like a Matt chill stream (optional) or when it's coming up to new DLC/monthly update those streams can take place then (new DLC stream can replace the other TSW stream so you'd only have those 2 streams for TSW that week), meaning 2 streams a week will be the minimum. Apologies if that is what has been happening, I've not watched a full stream for about a month but from looking at previous RFTV schedules it looks a bit much doing almost 4 streams every week, as you said not many companies do that. Sorry for the waffle!
Have used Kahoot before, but the stream latency means it's not a pleasant experience for people playing on different platforms. Believe we used it for Railfan Fest last year, and Twitch in particular was at a fairly sizeable delay. We can keep it to one platform, but with the numbers we've had it'd be an Enterprise solution (whereas QuizKit is free to use).
You can, if you just stream a powerpoint, for example, and have the picture in that - or just stream the pic directly. Have a look at Ashens' Twitch quizzes, as most of his are picture based.
