Sorry if there is already a thread for this, but there is now another sale on Steam for TSW 2. Surprisingly no Sherman Hill, but Tharanter Rampe has a 55 percent sale - good thing I didn't buy it at release like I did with Sherman! Not to sound like a cheapskate, but think I'll make a habit of not buying stuff on release if new content has such big sales so soon after release. Unless it's something I really want to support, of course (cough Clinchfield loco DLC cough). Also, the "New Journeys" expansion is also 55% percent off (still not getting it TBH, but it's a more realistic price point for it, IMO).
I'd say the New Journeys is worth it just for the much improved Köln-Aachen timetable alone; the added SPG scenarios and livery are a nice bonus.
Some of the older TSW2020 content is for sale at a slightly higher discount (-60% vs -55%) for those of you who have the old game (reminder that buying TSW2020 DLC automatically gives you the TSW2 equivalent if you own both base games). Cheers
Got New Journeys for 55% off, I think that's pretty nice. Has the numbering on the CSX SD40 been fixed yet? Also, is the CSX C40-8W worth getting? Does it add any extra services to Sand Patch, or just substitues into exsisting ones?
I'm fairly certain the C40-8W just subs in on the current timetable. But we do get 3 new scenarios. I'm mulling over picking it up along with new journeys, are the scenarios any good?
i am curious which routes and train people buy during the simfest sale? Is any of the dlc that are on sale worth it right now, or should you just wait?
I'm very much surprised about the discount on Tharandter Rampe. It's one of the newest DLC and it has also received fairly positive reviews. I'm tempted to buy it. Although I just bought Cornwall in last weeks sale (smart sales-strategy DTG )
The Ramp is very good, probably the best German route so far. Wish we could get a layer for the G6 on it.
TBH I found Riesa a bit dreary, had a run last night and apart from the slightly scenic Meissen section it’s really just another identikit commuter route for the interminable red Dostos and Electric Karts. But that is probably a topic for other than the sale thread.
The G6 does sub in for the 363 though, even if it doesn’t add a layer. It does add at least 4 services - a 4-part service of running 4 locos and an empty coal train up the grade, down the branch, loading it up, and taking it back down the grade. Essentially a duplicate of the 4-part service already in the timetable, but later in the day and with 4 locos instead of 2.
The C40 has become my favorite loco to drive on sand patch. Although the horn sound, admittedly, is truly dire
So is it worth getting? I was thinking about getting back to SPG, so maybe it might be the perfect chance alongside the SD40 from New Journeys.
At this rate there is almost a continuous sale up to and including Easter. Just a shame there's nothing TSW wise I really want, though a couple of items for TS I might pick up - the Bossman 8F and Welsh Marches.
Is purchasing New Journey Worth the discount price and the money, even though it got a mixed rating on steam game reviews? Anyone brought this?
It's nothing really radical. The Bakerloo stock is an external reskin with a handful of uninspiring scenarios. The same really with the SPG SD40's and whatever the other item was (so unmemorable I don't recall, something German I think). Edit: Strangely enough, it doesn't look like TS items are included...
Picked up Peninsula Corridor and all related DLC (Baby Bullet and switcher) for about $10 bucks. These sales are very timely as it's allowing me to build up my favorite content on PC after transitioning from PS4.
Well I've heard it's worth getting just for the new Köln-Aachen timetable alone if you love german routes. I'm not really interested in german stuff, mainly got it for the CSX SD40 to try it out, and the silver Bakerloo Line stock. I think for such a low price it's a good deal to have a few runs on the original routes.
Smart indeed, I too bought a few routes last time, and now I just had to get the Ramp, was my last german DLC missing!
With the new Steam anti sales fraud rules, I don't think they can do an Easter discount campaign in two weeks because the cooldown is 28 days, unless Steam has a major sale event that time which it usually doesn't.
I don't think any "Easter discount" has been planned. Were they even doing any discounts for Easter in the previous years? There was no such thing for example a year ago. Last year the next discount following March Madness was 2 weeks after Easter and not right around the Easter.
I looked at the journey mode and to be honest even at £4 I don’t see value in it when I’ve not completed more than 20 of original timetable services. I did finally pick up the csx logo at a more reasonable price point
For me the additional AI traffic it generates makes me think it could be worth £4. Still mulling over if I'm going to purchase in this sale
Yeah I'm also unsure wether to pick up the New Journeys Expansion. Sand Patch Grade is my least favourite route, so I don't really need a new loco for it. Bakerloo is a one trick pony, but the expansion doesn't really change that. Köln-Aachen is a decent route, a new timetable with more AI would be nice, but not sure it's worth the price. As far as I know, New Journeys doesn't really do anything for routes other than the base three, isn't it?
Nothing at all and for 2/3 of the core adds nothing other then a handful of scenarios. For me personally who doesn't play Bakerloo at all and only limited Sand Patch runs the only benefit for me is Koln extra Sbahn services and AI traffic. Is that worth £4.00 for me yeah it probably does, for others? Maybe not.
Yeah, that's also crossing my mind. I still don't quite get why other routes got an update on the timetable as part of a Preservation Crew update (WSR comes to mind), but other routes need a paid DLC to get to the same level of quality.
I’d envisage behind the guise of “gameplay team had capacity” the commercial testing happened for £8.99.
So if in London new journeys is 2/3 the price of a beer. Then up north we should only be paying a couple of quid for NJ? Is that what your saying?
"New Journeys" is possibly worth buying at its current sales price, but I feel like a sucker for having fallen victim to its original sales hype and paid full price. "Rehashed journeys" would be a much more appropriate and honest title.
This is why I personally can’t indulge. It seems wrong that depending on what way the wind blows a timetable change, amend, addition can be wheeled through QA as preserved or charged. There’s not a clear a=preserved update or b=chargeable. Loco reskins negated by creators club Additional scenarios, guess there something new but again they’re one hit wonders in my eyes. Only scenarios I’ve tried more than once are bugged ones. My other concern is the bakerloo timetable upgrade is nearly a year in the making. At what point is it sacked off as not commercial to sort, is that the point I get a £3 store credit for an undelivered paid feature? Perhaps the spare time the gameplay team had could have gone here (I dare say it didn’t because it doesn’t generate revenue). I’m really not sold on these loot box cash grabs, it’s basically a reskinned gun (cod), a different kit (fifa) or a new car livery (Forza etc) or to me an immoral waste of cash. You can probably tell I’m not sold at £4 but then the worlds a boring place if we all like the same
In the end I put my money into the Shasta route for TS. So far not regretting it, albeit took three attempts to find the correct route out of Klamath Yard with the local trip working!
I get BR155 for 50% from March sales and now the price is really lower. You can get BR155 and BR363 with such a low package price which is cheaper tham 50% BR155. Disappoint with the sale and my money
You mean DB BR423. On the preview stream both Matt and JD mentioned it's a straight up Reskinned Hauptstrecke München-Augsburg DB BR423.
Man, DTG really can't win sometimes- now there's too many sales lol. Try playing on Xbox, where it's full price (almost) everyday. Seriously, though, it's the risk you run by buying anything day 1- certainly nothing unique to TSW.
Ah yes, they are all red plastic electric karts to me. And Koln to Aachen is just yet another pretty much dead straight flatlands German interurban route with little to set it apart from all the others.
I gave in and bought Chemnitz. Already regret it: the AFB on the 185 is broken as usual, unable to maintain the selected speed. I have to set it 10-15 km/h higher then desired. All these years and still the same bugs. DTG has no shame.
