I think by DR Simulator he means Diesel Railcar Simulator.

    from fb:

We have just finished the conversion of the graphics engine to Unity HDRP, which has been going on for several weeks... [IMG]
    The effect is amazing [IMG][IMG]
This allows us, among other things:
    [IMG] NVIDIA DLSS support
[IMG] better lighting & shading model
    [IMG] volumetric fog & light
    [IMG] better anti-aliasing
    [IMG] subsurface scattering
... and in future ray-tracing support.

No release date yet (in fact it's been pushed back again to Q2 2022, can't wait til June when it will say Q3 instead!), but they have managed to plan for another Dev update, ha. How long does a delay need to be before we officially call it development hell?

Better late than half-assed à la DTG.

I think the actual phrase is "better late than never", and if this isn't your first PlayWay rodeo you'll know that's far more appropriate!

I would rather take what you would falsely describe as "half-assed", than the never ending changes and thus undefinied development time which Simrail "2021" is showing. Because, you know, the DTG approach with applied project management has that simple advantage of not getting you bankrupt.

I find it funny how what you dislike of SimRail is exactly what I dislike of DTG. The messy development, the moving release dates (Preserved collection updates have been ready for the best part of a year, but still not out).
SimRail does not look like it's struggling for money, they have not released any money grab DLC or buggy messes.
I guess we each see what we want to see.

I would say even more: if they want to participate in a conversation, they must understand that others may not agree with their opinion.

Good choice and for Simrail the original version was a Simkol for Polish Railways PKP. EU44 Taurus (DB BR182 and MRCE BR182 future ÖBB1116 1016 & 1216) EU43 Traxx (TSW 2 185.5 185.6 185.2) should have AFB control switch on the left leg panel.

    Agree.
I am currently spending most of my time in Run 8, now the first update to V3 has come out.
Route building or rather virtual modelling, is Trainz.
Occasionally fire up Open Rails (MSTS), Diesel Railcar Simulator and Derail Valley.
Funnily enough, my most neglected sim is now DTG’s classic TS, despite having a massive route collection once you’ve experienced TSW2, it’s hard to go back. Well that and the constant OOM crashes.

It has to do when I was young I used to get Model Railroader magazine which sometimes describes train technical information including the safety system

His insistence on adding in often superfluous information (or putting _way_ too much detail in to things, like typing acronyms and then immediately the full words thus making the acronym redudant, or listing 3 or 4 main stations along a route every time that route is mentioned), along with a distinct lack of punctuation and grammar often makes for incredibly difficult-to-read walls of text.

Not to mention creating made-up scenario packs or route bundles every time someone suggests a new route or loco.

Exactly. Only 47 on a card that costs more than my whole PC.

Well, in TSW with a RTX2080Ti, you get good fps with stutters, so it's not very different. Maybe it's even better to have 47fps without stutters (btw 47 fps doesn't mean nothing if we don't know if it's FHD, 2K or 4K)

Wait is it really coming to console? If so I think tsw2 may finally have a competitor on it's hands. About time. Also if it did it would probably be gen 9 only

Wow I was not expecting that. I thought it would be another PC exclusive. I'm looking forward to the continuing development of this game. It's good they are taking their time with it so hopefully the full game will launch with as few issues as possible.

From what I've seen, I see myself buying simrail to be honest. Hopefully it can be a competitor to tsw2 because this game desperately needs a competitor

Mildly concerning that they seemingly announce something as major as console release via a YouTube(?) comment, at the end of the third different scheduled release date. I note we are now on our 4th release date btw - maybe Q2 2022 will be the charm! Really starting to feel like the usual issues with this publisher are coming back though.

Perhaps it was done that way because maybe the console version of the game won't release at the same time as the pc version. I'm probably wrong here though

Let just hope that they got better reaslistic train and track sound than TSW2, hopefully surely this will push the DTG even more, cause right now they need a big push or something that will make them understand.

Honestly I was surprised the demo came out as slick as it was, I haven't given up hope that this is just a company who didn't realise how much time they would need to deliver on promises. Maybe they really do want to get it right before release, an old fashioned but welcome attitude. Still a few reminders of similar projects that suffered development hell, so until it has a price, release date and review copies available my optimism is qualified.

I am also becoming increasingly skeptical most PCs will manage to run it. Give DTG and Asobo credit - their games can run quite well on hardware released long before TSW or Flight Sim came out. Will this?

I'd suspect they will work on optimization. Would be foolish not too especially considering how much dev time went into this game

Honestly, I would be super excited even if they had a single North American route. We NEED competition for the North American market. Right now, your only choice is a limited variety of really good but extremely expensive rolling stock for Trainz, or entry-level stuff from DTG. It's about time we get some competition in here.

Considering there's already a fair few rail simulators out there featuring North American content (Trainz, Train Simulator, Train Sim World, Run8, but also more arcady ones like Derail Valley, Railway Empire and Rolling Line), I really don't see how we'd NEED even more of those. IMO we'd need some rail simulators featuring countries that haven't been featured by other rail simulators yet.

Imma disagree on this one. There are so many games even arcady games that have north american routes to the point that I am glad that simrail will be set in Poland. We need something that is set out of the usual big three countries. Even I get tired of seeing a big red dostos. Now don't get me wrong I would like to see more NA routes particularly passenger routes but it is nice getting a game that is set in a country that you wouldn't really see in other train sims or games. I wouldn't expect dtg to do a route in Poland anytime soon so it makes it refreshing to get a different experience so to speak.

You kidding? There are so many routes in America that might as well be in different countries. Like my home state Washington, for example. A crew might start out in downtown Seattle on a BNSF Z-SSECHC. You start in the heart of bustling Seattle, weaving through and under the city. Then, you break out into the residential suburb area of Interbay, and before you know it you're zooming along the coast of the Puget Sound. Later, you turn east at Everett, and a few minutes later you begin the climb up Stevens Pass. And finally, at the east end of the pass is Wenatchee, a sort of niche little city at the confluence of the Wenatchee and Columbia Rivers. In other places, you have the wide open expanse of brown wheat fields stretching on with seemingly no end, and in other places you're guided by the fiery red, orange, and browns of autumn leaves as you weave through cities on an industrial spur on the East Coast. Just because it's one country doesn't mean it's all the same all the way through.

Oh i am aware. My point was more the fact that I am glad that their first route will be set in poland. I'm not aware of any train game that has routes set in Poland. There are many train games that have routes based in the U.S, UK and Germany so it's nice to be getting something different for once :)

Good point and I do have a feeling if Sim rail is going to expand across the Oder River into Germany. It might be Posen (Poznan) Frankfurt Am Oder Berlin or Breslau Gorlitz Dresden

Fair enough, but in most countries the same routes tend to be made over and over in different simulators like Run 8 and Trainz. In fact, regions like the Pacific Northwest have almost no representation in train simulators besides Stevens and Marias Pass, and there's a huge amount of missed potential there.

This must be nearing release, but it seems to have gone a bit quiet? Has anyone any news?

Was playing that freight scenario in the prologue last night which I hadn't played for a while, and was again impressed with many things including the physics element.
