What I'm confused about is if it's a re-title with new routes and some updated routes or if it's a totally separate game. I think and really hope it's a re-title because it's long overdue.

Ignore what I said, DTG Jamie just confirmed it's a re-title which is very good!

Hopefully this means TS now stays TS Classic forever. The yearly number changes ("20XX") were really annoying. Much better to just keep the same name.

(I could point out the containers in the Tehachapi picture, and that there were a few saying that US routes that didn't get the ONE containers :) )

And hopefully TSW2 users won't think this forum is the place to post their problems.

So we'll all have to purchase this, or will our existing installations update automatically?

IMHO - This is the equivalent of the yearly release.
Anyone with TS2022 will have the name changed to TS Classics
And like in previous years you can either buy the new release or just the routes if you want them.

But USRailFan I don't work for DTG so I might be totally wrong

This is a rename and route bundle, nothing is changing with Train Simulator just the name, if you have the addons already the updates will install automatically

What baffles me is why people who obviously have at the very least the educational level to read and reply to internet forums can't read an announcement!

Absolutely and categorically THIS! ^^^ Sick to death of renaming folders, shortcut links and whatnot every year. :D:D

Now that's a bit of a stretch, see my first comment, people who use the internet cannot read... Allegedly.

I'm quite surprised it's taken them this long to do it - it's basically been redundent since TSW launched and was even more redundent when TSW moved away from having the year in the title.

Have everything but the Reisa-Dresden extension, have the Reisa-Dresden route so seems an expensive cost just to add the extension.

The good news is that “future development and DLC” is spoken of.

    I am happy with that.

It has the lenght of many other routes, and do not cost more. And it will be available on it’s own anyway.

I don’t find it expensive. Developers and coders have to pay their bills too.

I read you can buy the extension to the Reisa-Dresden route separately when it launches.

It is mentioned the Dresden - Leipzig route will be available as a stand alone route at the same time.
And it is possible - but unlikely - there would be a discount for owners of Dresden - Reisa

I apologise for being cynical, but calling it classic gives the impression that a line is being drawn under it, as in no more development.

Does this mean the three route bundles that come with TS Classic will no longer change each year, I wonder? That’d be a shame for bargain hunters. But also maybe a sign that the pace of routes is set to decline from DTG, as they start looking at longer routes in TSW? Wild speculation, I know!

Maybe it is a prelude to TS Open (as in open source). Tin foil hats, everyone!

Doesn't that go completely against what they actually wrote though?

Ok true, that quote doesn't mention development per se..

And this quote is rather unambiguous in neither further confirming or denying future core upgrades..
So I dunno, maybe you are right in your cynicism pooks.

Yes, "classic" sounds like a great achievement from the past and therefore frozen.

Dickens wrote some classic novels, but he won't be writing any new ones.

It all sounds like it being shelved to me.

"Whilst the name, art and release date has changed this doesn't mean anything is changing with your collection. You can look forward to continued support and many more Add-Ons from both Dovetail Games and our partners."

Support and addons... not the game itself. I suppose after 12 or 13 years it was bound to happen. I'm sure there are years left in the sim with 3rd party support, but looks like the beginning of the end to me.

Maybe you just have more faith in your fellow humans than I do.

The writing's been on the wall for years - they can barely touch the core game code without breaking something - be it their own add-ons or someone else's, it's just too risky. Note how fastload spent about 6 months in open beta.

I like the way that DTG has not mentioned about further game development it has not been ruled out.
But most people like to assume the worst

What should it be called then?
It needs to be something to distinguish it from TSW2
That is the problem for new players to either game.

It should be called simply "Train Simulator" like in your steam library. When purchasing Train Simulator, you should have a choice of route bundles to go with the base game, with themes such as countries. That way DTG could still sell and promote yearly route bundles, but without the rebranding of the base game (if that makes sense).

The problem with it being called Train Simulator 20XX and now Train Simulator Classic on the steam store page is that people get the wrong impression of it being 'new', which unfortunately causes misunderstanding and confusion (and judging by the reaction continues to do so).

Technically, under the hood it is still "Railworks" and indeed some forums still refer to it as such, notably Railworks America.

But I agree it makes sense to scrap the annual date change to a more generic title even if that title does at least imply it's now secondary to TSW.

I'm ok with TS Classic. It is what it is - a fifteen year old game, and content developers will focus more and more on TSW in the next time, like it or not.

Btw why always create duplicate threads double-announcing stuff? This could be discussed in the Dovetail Live Article Discussion thread that was opened for this.

It already was called something that distinguished it from TSW2.

And yet people still get confused, Pookey. I think its easy to forget as people who have been playing either or both games for a while that for a newcomer, it appears differently to how we see it.

Once you remove the ordinals, which from a branding perspective (most) people dont see (they just see them as version numbers), we are left with:

    Train Simulator (old)
    Train Simulator Classic (new)
    Train Sim[ulator] World

Frankly, adding World to the end makes it sound like its a collection and part of Train Simulator. Given that TSW comes with a selection of routes from around the world, this only re-enforces that idea in a new player’s mind. I am sure there was a meeting at some point in DTG where someone said that the “World” bit was because, unlike in TS Classic, people can get out and interact with the simulation’s world, but unfortunately all the new players weren’t in that meeting at the time ;)

Back in the olden days when there was very little DLC, it made sense for the name to be RailWorks, as that name focused on the building tools. But now? Who knows! Maybe “Classic” will be enough? Not sure though.

That's pretty much exactly what happened, plus around the same time they released Flight Sim World (remember that?) and Fishing Sim World, so it made more sense there too.

Train Simulator Cash Cow, or Train Simulator Propping Up TSW2, are two appropriate names.
Whatever i don't care, TS20xx is and will always be a far more flexible and satisfying game, than it's successor.
    Why, because it has EDITORS.

Dovetail revealed an image of what seems to be the new menu for Train Simulator Classic.
    TS-Classic-Key-art-HR-With-Logo.jpg
I absolutely love it, I feel nostalgic for it as it reminds me of TS 2014's and TS 2015's menu screen both of which I love.
    maxresdefault.jpg
    75909f88fa0d67d34d857a0db2efc82b.jpg
All they need to do now is bring back TS 2014 or TS 2015's menu music or new menu music but in a similar style to that of TS 2014 / TS 2015 and I would love it even more! :D

Sorry, Cyclone thank you I thought it was an extension to my already owned Bahnstrecke Riesa - Dresden. As I have the other routes as well I might buy this new German Route if it is offered as a Stand alone.

That’s what it says in the description. The UK and USA routes have previously been released, so l will wait for the Dresden stand-alone addon.
