Hi all, I've posted this in "Off Topic", but it probably belongs here: I currently have Boston Rush Hour, Dresden Rush Hour Nahverkehr and Main Spessart Bahn. I find them a little bit limited and short and just wondering what tracks/routes are most popular, scenic and offer the most bang for buck. Some of the trains I find hard to set up and the view out the window poor. Like the CSX freight trains. Also, is there a way to be naughty! Eg; Can you drive unrestricted at high speed, derail etc? Perhaps TSW2 should build a segment like some games do, like Call of Duty's off-shoot Zombies and offer The Adams Family style scenes to crash trains off bridges etc! Blow up bridges or drive a train over it etc. Now that would be fun! Just for something different. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
You can exceed the speed limit without any real consequence, other than not receiving AP. Done it a few times on West Somerset and doing yard work to mitigate boredom. The only time you seem to derail is if coupling up you hit the buffers at 0.1 MPH over the undocumented maximum…
Hauptstrecke Rhein Ruhr - despite being fairly short - is a good route, especially with the DB 101. The other Dresden route, Dresden - Chemnitz, also is quite good for a more open and interesting experience, in my opinion. As for speeding, you are only docked AP points, however all they do is go towards your medal at the end, so unless you're interested in that it doesn't do anything. As for Derailing, it's possible to do if you go too fast around a curve or if you hit a buffer too fast. Scenario Planner probably comes in handy here, as you can make it so only your train is there. Though, if you do derail, you'll quickly be taken to a menu, so you can't see it (without saving before it goes to that menu, then restarting, though I don't know if that works with Scenario Planner) As for the suggestion of an off-shoot segment, that's never going to happen. Putting aside the fact TSW is a Simulator/Game, not just a Game, it would also go against their (important) licensing agreements if players could launch company [×]'s trains off a cliff or something.
Derailing ends your game and isn’t depicted accurately so isn’t something you would want to do in TSW2. You will derail some trains by going round corners far too fast if you want to. As for the game deliberately having modes for crashing and exploding bridges, that’s not what this game is intended to be. It’s a train driving simulator not an action packed disaster movie scene simulator and if you want those kind of things you will be disappointed because it isn’t ever going to happen. It is possible to have fun without destroying things.
Indeed. I really think the forum CoC should be updated to discourage the juvenile, "I wanna crash my train, blah", type comments. I also feel and probably mentioned it before, the penalties for overspeeding should be more punitive. Exceed 5 MPH or 8 km/h over the limit and you shouldn't just stop getting AP you should start to lose them. 10 MPH or 16 km/h over and a message should pop up that a Traction Inspector has relieved you of duty due to reckless driving, with the Game Over/Failed message. As it stands, I was doing 65 MPH on the WSR with precious little consequence.
I don’t think all the fun should be taken out for those who want to drive far too fast for a laugh as it can be good even for players like myself who generally (99% of the time) drive within the rules to occasionally try to beat my own London to Reading time record for example. I also have no problem with players driving until they derail or run a red signal and end the game. I draw the line at deliberate crash simulation and allowing deliberate crashes to occur by allowing drivers to go through red signals and crash into another train, which is also where DTG draw the line. I wouldn’t want the traction inspector to appear for over-speeding recklessly (until I got back to the depot!) but in those circumstances I’m driving in a world where the traction inspector doesn’t even exist, which I think players should be able to do if they wish. The scoring could decrease for speeding but when driving madly I don’t think many people worry about the score they get. As the game stands now it is up to the player to police how they drive and to a certain extent that is how it should stay. I try to drive in a way to ensure maximum comfort for my passengers and that isn’t a requirement for scoring either and the scoring system and arcade style crash and burn are two separate conversations anyway.
