My Steam Deck arrived on Thursday and I’ve finally got round to giving TSW a try, and so far so good. TSW is currently unsupported on steam deck but I had no problems installing and starting the game and once I figured out how to get the keyboard up on the steam deck I was away. Only thing I changed before my first run was the screen resolution, it seamed a bit squashed by default. Did a quick run on HRR in the 422 (sunny weather) and was getting mid 30fps with the occasional stutter every now and then (was more than drivable though) on default settings. I think with a bit of playing with the settings that might improve a bit. Apart from getting used the the controller layout instead of a keyboard it felt like a normal TSW run tbh. One thing I will say is that it does seem to work the steam deck hard, the fan is working harder when playing TSW than any other game I’ve tried so far (I’ve only played 3 games to be fair). It’s probably not an issue but it’s something to be aware of. I’m sure they’ll be issues but I can see me having a lot of fun with this in the future, being able to play anywhere without needing a beefy laptop is fantastic really.
Please keep this thread updated with anything strange or noteworthy you experience. I am still waiting for my confirmation email so TSW on Deck is something I am interested in following. Cheers
Gave TS a go and couldn’t get it to work. It starts up ok but I kept getting stuck trying to load a scenario, you click start and most of the menu disappears apart from the settings / store / community in the top right. If you go to the store you can get back to the main menu again but that’s all I could get it to do.
Had another go with TS this morning and got it running properly, verified my install and started it in 32 bit and everything worked ok. I’ve only installed the cross city line but it ran fine with around 20 fps (in the rain), haven’t looked at what the graphics settings are as default but I’m fairly sure that’ll improve. I was surprised how well I could control the cab switches with the touch screen. An issue I did find was that I couldn’t F2 past missing content in scenarios like usual, but I’m going to get a Bluetooth keyboard to fix that.
Risa Dresden all layers (I think) High graphics preset 07:24 IC Koln - Dresden BR 101 Light Rain Risa end mid to high 20s fps with the odd stutter FPS picked up to low 30s on the avoiding line and the stuttering reduced a bit too. Mid 20s again at Dresden-Neustadt Approach to Dresden between 14 to 22 fps with a few big stutters Did the same run in light cloud and was averaging around 32-33 fps at Risa, the stuttering felt better too. Fps was around 35 on the avoiding line with occasional drops to around 27-28 every now and then. Gradually dropped down to 26-27 fps the closer I got to the other line (around 12km from Dresden-Neustadt) 27fps at Dresden-Neustadt with the odd stutter. 24 fps at Dresden HBF with a few big stutters on the way in. Definitely more stuttering than on HRR and holding (especially in the rain) for longer but it ran a lot better than I thought it would considering the crashes they get on the last gen consoles.
I got the 512gb version, was ordered around 7 minutes after launch. It’s a great piece of kit, runs some powerful games at 60fps no problem and proton (the Linux compatibility program) seams to be updated fairly regularly and works well for the most part. Only downside is battery life really, depending on what you’re playing it’s around 2-4 hours. It’s not ideal but you can still get some good use out of it, I’m going to look for a 12v charger so I can charge it in the car, that’ll make a big difference for me.
I use SCP (it requires only installing any SCP client on Windows and enabling SSH daemon on the Deck): https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/ta8bv8/how_to_transfer_files_from_windows_to_steam_deck/ TSW2 saves on the Deck are located in: Code: ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1282590/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/TrainSimWorld2/Saved/SaveGames
You are a unbelievable !!!! master of Steam Deck and TW2 ! Thank you a lot !!!!! Edit : I transfer with OneDrive, it's ok too...
Hi! I'ts better on Windows 11, I've better fps than on Steam OS. W11 is better in fps. Steam OS is better to suspend your game.
