So Ive set up a little guide on how to drive Eastbound on the HSC, it covers both tracks and also gives you approximate train distances in yards to input into the distance counter, and a very brief summary of the main signals you will encounter and what they mean (this part will be expanded in duecourse) Noticed loads of errors with the actual speed limit signs on track so route knowledge is mandatory if like me you enjoy driving HUDless. Hope you enjoy https://trainsimrouteguides.wixsite.com/website/post/sim-world-2-horseshoe-curve-eastbound Also a video to accompany this (for some reason YouTube are still processing the HD version of this 12 hours after upload, so currently in low res only).
Good work. Also driving no hud only on every route. Do we know if the speed signs are actually wrong or if the "hud speed" has the wrong number?
Some of the signs were clearly wrong (one example I came across was 44mph), others seem to relate to the previous zone speed rather than the next one, theres one section near Cresson where the limit changes in different spots depending which track you are on, and in that area Im fairly certain one of the tracks HUD speed is wrong as the speed signs are the same for both.
Well rivet delivered a good service by releasing 2 updates in 1 month. Lets see if skyhook is still riding the "doesnt give a s.hit" train).
Hudless runs give you a great sense of achievement when you complete them. Sadly I can only do this on a few routes so far.
I recommend to use speed charts or guides like the ones from Redrev. How DTG releases the game makes 50% of the immersion, the other 50% is how you actually play tsw. Driving with hud enabled is in my opinion the most boring way to do that. The major difference is, your outcome of the service depends on your skills and you get judged by your mistakes instant. Things get pretty busy if you realise the speed reduction is 500m closer than you actually thought. Yes those manuals, charts and guides are a lot of work, but its worth for the immerison. At least for the German tracklayout you have the "advanced" safety systems, so you need basicly the braking chart for passenger traffic. Basicly i drive all routes "no hud", so here an example of my speed chart of the bakerloo line. Dont point it out if you find a mistake, this brings you from a to b, and there are track layouts and shunting speeds too, since maybe DTG will update the timetable & dispatcher at some point. With this im able to finish an entire Run with less than 4min delay (less than 1min Delay Underground only). So technically you can spend a shift without messing up the a.i services. Just close the doors 5 seconds beofre the task ends. If you have trouble, basicly all routes in tsw depend on your braking skills. Especially bakerloo, in the overground section its almost impossible to keep schedule.
I like to drive hudless, I usually find after 20 or so trips I can run "good enough" for me and most of the time stay within the speed limits. Paul
Driving without the HUD brings a whole new enjoyment in train simming imo - you really have to pay attention to the finer details of the route for stopping, speed limit changes etc etc. However, the enjoyment dissapears quickly when the signalling is incorrect, eg barreling along at 80 or so to have no warning for a turnout at say, 30mph - which can be seen in the modern UK routes in TSW2. I really hope they solve this for future UK routes - I've a feeling it won't be sorted for anything already released.
Since the update yesterday removed the overgrown section, I've had to amend the route guide to adjust.
Signalling systems don't always tell you about things like that. If it is a route change they will advise you, but not necessarily for crossing from one line to another. That sort of thing is highly route dependent. redrev1917 I was a bit sad when Johnstown Meadows was replaced by scorched earth. I thought the weeds were kinda nice .
I operate on a narrow gauge railroad with limited volunteers over an 18mile route - weeds in the track at least in spring is just a given for us so it made it feel like home .
Very nice guide- thank you!!! Just ran 14G (Chicago-Morrisville, Manifest, 8600t) and was able to do it mostly HUD-less- i did cheat a few times tbh. Is there a general rule for when to transition from power to braking when cresting the summit at Gallitzin? I feel like i was too aggressive on switching to dynamics and almost stalled out before the rear of the train cleared the summit.
I usually switch to Dynamics Setup then wait for the train to start creeping up in speed before moving up the dynamic range.
