I decided to run this train from Providence to Boston. Had ATC restricted at start and after passing 5 signals showing clear, it still was holding me to restricted. Checked the map and there was no traffic ahead of me. Have no intention of driving all the way to Boston at less than 20 mph. Guess it's another of the broken services related to the safety systems. I have already done 6 other services on this route without issues.
It's rather funny that you posted this, because just yesterday I had a similar experience. It was the MBTA service out of Attleboro, at 0710 I think. ATC 20 mph restriction after Sharon all the way to past Hyde Park. Thing is, I was also getting green aspects the whole way. So, ATC borked but lineside signals working. If you care to, it is quite possible to drive this way, with ATC turned off and just watching the signals. Of course, you could also activate the signals on the HUD. Although there are many services I have driven with no issues, ATC on NEC-BP is... imperfect.
I had this same problem the other day with an ACS-64 service, I was stuck with a 20mph limit that would not increase. I tried the service again with the same result but the third attempt it worked and the speed limits increased. After a little trial and error I found its the reverser handle that seems to be causing the problem. When you insert the reverser handle and move it into the FWD, N or REV positions its ok. But if you move it back to the Out position the ATC\ACSES beeps and changes to 20mph and remains stuck there. This was my problem, I was inserting the reverser and setting it to neutral while loading passengers and when I was ready to depart while moving it from N to FWD I went a tick to far and hit the OUT position. Using the Regional #170 service as an example to can easily replicate this. When you first insert the reverser and move it to FWD, N or REV the ATC\ACSES shows a 30mph limit. If you move it back to OUT, it beeps and changes to 20mph. I've only encountered this issue myself on the ACS-64. DW
That is a good catch. I can't remember if I inadvertently moved it to the off position, but that is possible.
