In the last few route streams I've queried dioramas, as they're not specifically relating to a route I understand it may not get covered. When there was all the rush hour hype about them there was a huge thread full of ideas as to what we'd like to see. We've seen the camera snappers incorporated into route extensions and horseshoe (who hold cameras odd) but beyond that has anyone seen anything? Is this another good addition to be silently omitted? They were lovely to see and I was hoping we were on a trajectory to see track staff, yard staff etc. After watching steam and growing up in a rail yard seeing the uncoupling, shunting, hustle and bustle I can't help but think it was a bit "28 days later" Have dioramas been canned?
I've been wondering the same as well. It seems to be the case of another new feature that gets used for one route and then never seen again. I would assume, this would be one of the first things to be cut if a route development was running behind
There is a nice little diorama on Return to Maerdy… On the first scenario with the J94 you pass the sister loco sitting knackered in the runaway spur near the top of the line. There’s a couple of railway workers sat there just looking at it, sort of scratching their heads. I already had a broad grin on my face driving the delightful J94 but I then had to explain to my missus why I was chuckling out loud…
I’m just surprised when there was people asking for umbrellas, bands, entertainers, rail crews etc that it all went quiet. There was so many splendid ideas
I've asked this in several streams myself also. I hope we can see more in the future and they havnt been totally forgotten. They seem to be currently restricted to scenarios alot with only a few in rush hour routes. I hope to see more
I always thought their placement in the Boston route seemed to lack some planning. Whilst its Ok to have the orange workers trackside or off the end of platforms, but if passenger scenes get added, does that mean passengers would randomly spawn trackside as well
My understanding was that they spawned randomly, in order to add some variety to the route.. i.e. the route creator designated a spawning area and then one of a library of scenes may or may not appear when the route was loaded. Artwork wise, we only have the track workers at the moment. Maybe I am misremembering the discussion on stream and this was never implemented.
I think this is correct, can anyone at DTG confirm whether these are still coming through or whether they’re a parked entity
I sort of remember that thread (had a lot of Gin since then) but didn't DTG stop replying in there and so people just lost interest maybe?
My personal opinon is this is something DTG do like to do but just are unable to currently with their limited resources and priorities on other projects. The tech is there now, just needs to be utilised more.
similar to Rush hour passengers Dresden night lighting etc So many different features come and go from this
TrainSim-Matt DTG JD thanks for tonight stream. I’ve had a query about dioramas for some time, I was wondering if you may be able to shed any light in regards to tsw3 please? The below was a thread of suggestions also. https://forums.dovetailgames.com/th...d-what-5-would-you-like-to-see-in-game.51732/
DTG have generally kept dioramas as an easter egg to discover (with the only exception I can recall being the moving rail fan snappers in NJ SPG expansion which got featured on a stream), hopefully TSW3 is no different.
Not canned, just resting. I saw your question (every time) there just wasn't a natural place to answer it. There aren't any new ones this time around and that's in part to there not being a team dedicated to their creation (and IMHO, it should be something we do on a fundamental basis). Historically they've been added because they're cool and interesting and teams enjoy working on them when they've time to get them done, and that's the key factor.
Anything that adds to the illusion of a living world is a bonus. Vehicles by themselves are not enough to create it. The scenery teams need to add a few static characters on every route going forward. Having the worlds population crammed onto platforms is not convincing enough.
