Nothing breaks the immersion in Trainz as much as when you go to place coaching stock on the layout, to find it has opaque windows which hide the fact there is no interior modelled. Even years ago in the model railway world, I remember my first Triang train set which was the Flying Scotsman an 2 or 3 LNER teak style coaches. Even though I was only 14 or 15 at the time remember being very disappointed at the lack of interiors. Later when I started work and had a bit more money, started buying more kit always went for coaches with interiors (oh, like the Mark One RMB) and took great delight in painting them up from the off white colour of the plastic mouldings.
Exactly. People want things modeled and preferably somewhat intelligently and accurately (by intelligently I mean the game determines the state of the asset and loads / unloads it accordingly)
But we are not talking TSW2, I'm talking TSW3. You say "given there is no live pause". Who says there would be no live pause? You are taking the limits of TSW2 and export them to TSW3. Why even make TSW3 then? Part of the suspension of disbelief? Most games that have a free roam camera look good from a far and up close. I know lots of games where the background is not as detailed as what is up close. Gran turismo is a good example. If Polyphony made the option to walk around that game wouldn't look this awesome. You would have the ability to go check out all the stuff that didn't get as much attention to detail as the cars and the roads. Walking around in TSW2 feels like you have developer access. Like running around on a set and you see everything is made out of cardboard. Sometimes giving the player too much freedom can ruin the experience.
It's likely the two would be similar given the same management, production and development teams. Gran turismo is a very BAD example. The tracks are tiny (comparatively) and you can't walk through the crowd, can't jump in the cockpit with other drivers. Plus Polyphony is an in-studio for Sony, so the budget is slightly different Depends on your viewpoint. If you want a game to drive trains and nothing else. We already have that in TSC, and it does that bit pretty well. So if you want to "be the train" rather than "drive the train" then there's zero need for TSW at all, let alone TSW2 or 3 (and TSC works best on slightly older PCs too so cheaper to run)
I don't own a PC, so no there is no other game for me available just to drive trains. The only other train game for console is not available in the west. That game is a very good example of how you can make a good looking train game where everything is in balance (besides the UI for us Westerners ) The attention to detail of the trains is less so it blends very well with the environment. Densha Go is not a perfect train game let that be clear but it has a lot of elements that make it a fun game. Something TSW 2 is lacking. Having two train titles. Train Simulator and Train Sim World it would make sense to me to make the two titles money cows without making them canibalize each other. Make Train Simulator a real gen9 simulator and Train Sim World an arcade style train game. I already mentioned this and nobody went bananas over the word "arcade"?
TSC is based on DirectX9 which is not supported outside of PC so they can't "remake it for console" as such Maybe having a "train centric experience" would solve certain issues, but it would also remove a lot of functionality some people seem to enjoy. And restricting the camera view wouldn't be a step forward even if that were the case. People love a good screenshot
But TSW already has the foundation to be the simulator, and TS the arcade. TS is on a decade-old engine. It's not suitable for console, not a hope in hell for gen9, and the task of porting it would be far from worth it. TSW on the other hand strikes a fine balance between Arcade (walking, collectables, creators club, livery designer, scenario planner) and Simulation (trains; models, sounds, physics - routes, timetables, scenarios) and so on. What you seem to proposing is not far short of "never going to happen", if not that. And it makes no sense, especially the "TS for Consoles" bit.
I've just bought TSW2 and my refund deadline with Steam will run out in eleven days so, if TSW3 is in the works, I can say with some confidence that it will be announced in twelve days.
This is the off-topic part of the forum. I did intentionally not post my "proposal" in the suggestion forum because I'm just voicing my opinion. If it was something that definitely needed to happen and was sure It could happen I would have posted it there. Sure it won't happen, I get that. But it will be read and some points might inspire. Train simulator classic is arcade? What is the arcade part then?
But TSC is not even on consoles. Now imagine everything is possible. Clean slate, total do over. Again I said "Imagine" The branding Train Simulator: Does that sound arcade to you? It sounds to me like the only serious train Simulator out there The branding Train Sim World sounds very arcady. It sounds like the Disney world of train simulators. Again it's a thought exercise
I've seen this mentioned several times before and don't get this argument. Both simulators have a scoring system that awards a medal, that's about as arcade as it gets. Sure, you can turn scoring off in TS Classic but it doesn't really change anything in how scenarios are played. Likewise, you can press Ctrl+6 in TSW to turn off the score counter and just forget scoring exists. TSW also has it's collectibles but they're completely optional and don't affect the driving experience, it's just a bit of fun for those who want to explore the routes a bit deeper. The name thing just comes across as nit-picking. TSW started out as Train Simulator 2 but DTG opted to change that to better reflect the fact you can walk about in the game's world. Nothing to do with whether it's an "arcade" game or not. In the end both TSC & TSW are video games, regardless of what anyone says otherwise they are video games. Any talk over which one is the "simulator" and which one is the "arcade game" is purely opinion that some people like to try and present as fact... Just play whichever one you prefer (or both) and enjoy it. It really doesn't matter what others think if you're enjoying what you're doing.
Maybe also nit picking but it sums it up very nicely. Both goes for me as I don't understand your argument.
