I’m really struggling with keeping the locomotive moving, I’m fine getting going and stopping but actually keeping speed or gaining significant speed (over 30mph) is something I cannot do.

Looking at a graphic someone posted in another thread states that if the boiler pressure drops I should “adjust the regulator and cut-off or cut back the regulator to allow the boiler to recover”.

I’ve tried adjusting the regulator but not quite sure what I need to adjust it to..
Does the cut-off go to 50%…?

I do see the boiler pressure needle go back up but it is very slow and lose more speed until I grind to a halt. Any tips???

When you set off your cut off will be at 75%. As you open the regulator more, first drop the cut off to 50% ( reducing it helps the boiler pressure rise), then add more regulator to gain speed and further reduce cut off to 25% and leave it there. When you are at the desired speed, also close the regulator a little which will also contribute to the boiler pressure staying at the 225 needle. Hope that helps

also make sure your fireman is set to ‘auto’ in the settings

Exactly the same for me so check your settings menu for the game as mine was set to manual fireman mode by default, switched to automatic and I’m flying along!

Only issue now is constant wheel slip above 65mph on passenger services

Do you have dampers open? Those suit fire with air (and therefore oxygen) so fire can buid it's mass and convert more water to steam
Auto fireman can use dampers so problem is occuring probably due to closed dampers.

If you're getting wheelslip at speed I would recommend easing off on the power a bit. You don't need to have the regulator constantly at 100% to maintain high speed. It also helps shortening the cut off further to 20% or 15%, I tend to find if you do that you can apply more power again and gain an extra few mph.

One your steam chest pressure is close to maximum, back off the regulator.

Sorry, only just caught up with the responses. Using your method I had no issues whatsoever so thank you very much.
