Actually her platinum jubilee passed in February but, sensibly, as with previous jubilees, they based the celebrations around her “official birthday” (which is in fact next week) and the late May bank holiday, which has moved and been extended this year from Monday to Thursday/Friday. Presumably they do this as there is a better chance of good weather.

I thought the parade and Trooping the Colour this morning was great. We can certainly do pomp and circumstance in the UK. I loved all the Irish folk songs given the military band treatment. The Queen loved the flypast but it seemed all a bit too much for William and Kate’s kids.

    Gawd bless Her Majesty.

Yeah the flypast was nice to watch especially the typhoons ( I think) making the 70.

How is saying "I'm surprised the queen hasn't died yet" argumentative? Just curious what argument would that cause

I have a lot of time for The Queen (the other Royal’s, not so much). I think it’ll be a dark day in Britain when we lose her. It’s true that she has been a constant in most peoples lives. So much history. It’s incredible really.

That's subjective really depending on how you interpret it. Im surprised because she is so old. Sure people can live to their 100s but then again they aren't usually heads of state hence why it's surprising.

Doesn't really explain how it's argumentative though

I’m not sure how me justifiably calling out someone who unjustly referred to the Queen of the United Kingdom in such an unpleasant and derogatory manner on a worldwide public Internet forum is regarded as being argumentative? It seems exercising my free speech with regards to justifiably defending the reputation of the Queen of my country is regarded as a reason to operate cancel culture once again by this pathetic woke society we all live in today.

Still the original offending reply by the person who made that unpleasant comment about the Queen has now been deleted so if me being cancelled is the price I have to pay so be it.

I’d still like to see Smugstarlord have the good grace and balls to apologise to the Queen and the UK and commonwealth population though without trying to score cheap points though.

Well! it’s no surprise that someone who feels the need to insult the 96 year old Queen of the UK and a large number of people in the UK and commonwealth in such an offensive and derogatory way hasn’t got the good grace or class to apologise. It sums up the world we live in today.

As for your pathetic explanation for your insult? Well you just keep digging that large hole you’ve dug for yourself. It’s pathetic.

Just a friendly heads-up: Free speech doesn't exist on a privately-owned and operated forum. The moderators can and will edit/delete anything they don't deem appropriate for a train simulation forum.

I bet your one of those who decks everything out in the union jack and gets all giddy seeing what old lizzie is wearing at ascot right? I'm not digging any hole. I'm one of those younger generation who sees no point in the dark ages of monarchy in the modern world. Democracy is 1 step away from dictatorship

I have to say, you Brits do pageantry like few others. It's also refreshing (and sadly kind of amazing) to see a huge four-day celebration unmarred by violence, just loads of people having a great time. A few protesters trying for attention, but nothing too serious and no harm done. In addition to the Queen, I think this weekend has been a credit to the population as well.

OK, then, bring on the deletion. You want to pick a fight, lad?
Your post sounds like it is made by a conceited- indeed smug - child, who has no idea how little he knows about anything- tipped, inter alia, by the use of the phrase "dark ages." (hint- no educated person has used it for some fifty years). There are few things more amusing than an ignoramus who doesn't even know how ignorant he is - at least, it's amusing in a 17 year old. In an adult, it's merely pathetic.

There is something to be said for having a head of state who is not a politician, especially one who embodies 1000 years of tradition.

Aren’t forums supposed to be argumentative (albeit in a friendly manner)? Therefore negative statements, if constructive, must not be censored.

The important thing is to be tolerant to others’ views - this goes for DTG Protagonist as well as everyone else (which I’m sure he is :) )

Why only positive, real life is not a bit like that. I am Welsh and one of the 54% of my countrymen\women\children\etc etc. Who had no intention of celebrating anything to do with an English queen descended from a German royal family (Saxe Coburg Gotha).

HM and her ancestors stem from Harri ap Edmon Tudur.

Of course, if we want to be snide about it, Wales' kings have sat in Westminster since the time of Edward I......)

You're saying I'm an ignoramus yadda yadda concieted blah blah. The thing is, isn't it more concieted to jump on your high horse and act in a condescending way? It's clear you think your opinions are above anyone else going by your response amd other posts on the forum. Its funny as you harp on about acting like a child, except you are on about picking a fight. What are you? 12.

Smugstarlord. FYI I’m not an out and out royalist, I never hung bunting out or even attended a street party, so your assumption about me or even the type of person I am is is way off kilter just like your sense of decency is. Still your apparently a yoooof so hey! showing yourself up as an ignorant wannabe obnoxious type of rebel is alright then. Jeeeze! I am however someone who was brought up to show respect when needed and despite what you me, or anyone else thinks about the Queen and the monarchy she has reached a major milestone with regards to serving the people of the UK and commonwealth with out putting much of a foot wrong. Still come the revolution eh where ( And yeah I am guilty of making an assumption about you here but I don’t think I’m far wrong despite your inevitable reply to deny it ) you would certainly be hiding at the rear whilst egging everyone else on with your vile derogatory words, probably via the internet. So back in your pram son and don’t leave it until you’ve actually learned to grow up.

There were many young people involved in celebrating the Jubilee and I know many republicans who are far older than me. The difference is they manage to be respectful and not childish when showing their dislike and often disdain for the monarchy. I find if you speak to others with respect, even if you disagree with them you get the same back in return, although it seems to be getting rare to have a civil disagreement nowadays.
