When you think about a preserved collection route, what is the one thing you think of that makes the route feel outdated? The trains obviously. Now don't get me wrong, the preservation crew has done a very good job at modernizing all of the preserved collection routes to make them up to TSW2 standards. However, there hasn't been a lot of love for the actual rolling stock. The only instance this has really happened is with the 166 in the massive Great Western Express update. This is a good start, but there are many other things I would like to see get modernized. I feel like these changes are long overdue, and just need to be tackled. For the sake of this forum post, I will primarily talk about rolling stock that has been used in a preserved route, and a newer route. Southern Class 377 and Southeastern Class 375 These are easily the most requested trains to be modernized. Ever since the release of Brighton Mainline for TSW2 Rush Hour, everyone has wanted DTG to move the Southern Class 377 onto East Coastway, upgrade the physics on the 375, and give it the BML sounds. It feels weird driving the 377 on East Coastway with its outdated sounds, and the same can be said about the 375. I can't imagine it taking too long to convert the 377 onto East Coastway, but the 375 may take some work since they would have to upgrade the physics on the 375 to make it work with the BML sounds. Many people have requested for these changes to happen, which is why I think this should be the first thing the preservation crew tries to modernize. LIRR M7 & M3 Ever since the release of the Harlem Line, everyone has been asking DTG to convert the new sounds and physics to the LIRR trains. The difference between the LIRR M7 and Harlem M7A is super noticeable and such an improvement. DTG would have to upgrade both the physics and the sounds. The M7 on LIRR feels a lot more sluggish compared to the M7A on Harlem. The M7 will most likely get a major overhaul similar to the 166. Long Island Railroad is desperately needing some love right now, and upgrading the rolling stock would definitely be a good start. I would be all in to see this as the LIRR rolling stock feels super outdated. DTG said that they had interest in upgrading these trains, so hopefully this is something we can see get added down the road. BR 146.2, 185.2, 185.5, 143, 442, 1442, & Doppelstocks Now here is where things get a bit tricky and complicated. DTG made various improvements to the BR 146.2, 143, 442, 185.5, and doppelstocks when they released Riesa-Dresden. People have requested for the preserved versions of these trains to get upgraded. However, they are. Kinda... To explain, the Riesa-Dresden locos and rolling stock are technically layered onto all other German routes, however, you have to access them through the livery selection page. For example, let's say I wanna drive a 146.2. If I just select the first one, it would give me the MSB 146. If I go into the livery selection for it, you are able to access the Riesa-Dresden 146. This means that DTG needs to replace all of the preserved German locos with the Riesa-Dresden version. So DTG could simply replace the 146, 143, and 185.5 with the newer ones. Now here is where things get complicated. The Doppelstocks and 442 have cosmetic differences from the older versions. The Doppelstocks are in a special VVO livery and have purple interior lighting, while the preserved Dostos have blue interior lighting and are in a DB Regio livery. The 442 also has an exclusive VVO livery. This means that DTG would have to add the new sounds to the older Dostos. I can't imagine it taking too long to do considering it's a cab car. Now the SKA 442 I think is just fine, but the Rapid Transit 1442 badly needs an upgrade. Its sounds are completely mediocre and need an update badly. The preservation crew needs to give the 1442 the newer sounds and probably upgraded physics. Now I don't know what the differences are between the 442 and 1442, so there may be some differences sound-wise between the 2 trains, but the newer Talent 2 sounds would definitely make the 1442 more presentable. Last but not least we have the 185.2. This train is obviously not in Riesa-Dresden, but it's similar variant the 185.5 is. I can't imagine both trains being extremely different, so hopefully, this could mean that the sounds/physics can be moved over to the 185.2 as well. These trains are in desperate need of upgrades. Upgrading these trains is the last piece of the puzzle to make preserved collection routes truly feel up to TSW2 standards. I hope that this is the next major focus for the preservation crew when they complete upgrading all of the other routes for TSW.
Completely agree with you. Sounds aren't the best on the preserved collection locos such as the 146 on msb, 1442, 185 which is why I don't really enjoy playing them anymore ever since the newer versions came out. I just go straight to timetable mode to play with the most recent version or just not play the route at all. Another loco is the 182 from hbl to the 182 in rt. If the sounds from hbl could also be ported over to rt, it would make the train more enjoyable to drive.
Basically like the other locomotives that got their sounds messed up in tsw2. You just hear the high pitched motor whine at speed. No fan noise, etc even with the window open. Basically hbl is how it should be like or at least like the one in tsw2020
I think instead of using their time trying to update preserved collection’s locomotives they have to urgently update the BR187 with its real sounds and not the broken one from the BR185. I know it was made from Skyhooks but we were all scammed by them and DTG needs to put pressure on them or do their work instead
Skyhook did get new sounds. I know this one dude is responsible for sending them. Now it's up to skyhook to update the sounds, tie it to physics which they said is proving more difficult than they thought so keep on waiting. They also working on fixing pzb, afb, etc. Dtg can't go in and do it themselves cuz it's a skyhook product
Yeah for sure Skyhook is the developer but DTG agreed on that terrible product by selling it so they’re a bit responsible and the thing is I can’t trust Skyhook anymore that’s why I found it personally that DTG should take care of it by mixing the sounds themselves
