Well, I'm not questioning DTG Protagonist for a moment, but, for what it's worth, Steam has followers of TSC at about 77,000 and those of TSW2 at about 26,000, if that means anything.

Well since all we know is lighting and sparks, I wonder if ray tracing maybe involved.

I'll just wait until they give an official announcement before I panic or worry.

    But I am excited

Quit the childish remarks, you are starting to annoy me. Focus on the topic in hand.

It has been speculated, there is nothing more to it.

Again TS came out in 2013,TSW 2 2020 so those stats are almost 10 years of followers.

And that does not mean you actively purchase and play game either. I'm a follower on Steam but I don't actually own it because my computer is trash.

Just dreams and wishes until TSW 2020 came out on console. Now with a Series X I'm in heaven, especially since the fixes.

But the last train sim I owned was the original MSTS and then I stopped playing games while I raised my children and have only got back to gaming 4 years ago.

And my budget was $800 Canadian so I chose a Series X as it plays better than any computer I could have afforded.

I can't give you actual numbers, but consider that the core game was released for free on Epic and is part of GamePass.

Steam-wise TSC still have more regular players on a daily basis than TSW2, however, this obviously doesn't doesnt factor in the Epic Games stuff.....
    tsw2.png tsc.png

At least both games are still doing better than the Trainz franchise.

Count me as being surprised about this supposed accidental leak :D
    Delightfully surprised, that is.

I honestly don't mind the idea of there being a new title addition for TSW, as long as there is a good reason to upgrade.

I'm certain this is still something that's being actively worked on, so while the opportunity is here, I as a long-time customer and fan of TSW would like to stress that whatever happens to next to this game, it should bring some meaningful quality-of-life fixes. Train Sim World as a series is now past 5 years old, things really should be ironed out by now. Issues like the save game and settings not being saved correctly are ought to be addressed by now. The main menu UI is due for an overhaul yet again. And bug fixes shouldn't have to take months to go through Q/A and scheduling for a release.

I've mentioned it before, and I'll mention it again. TSW at its core is a great and fun game and can easily provide hours of entertainment, but it is a game that lacks polish.
With TSW3 on the horizon, I would like to encourage DTG and third-party developers to really focus on ironing things out and giving us players and railfans a more smooth and consistent experience.

Let me guess, $20usd for the same game we already own that is still missing features that the first version of the game was promised?

My concern is how long it would take to port over the preserved collection, and with so many new dlcs that’s when problems happen, I would of thought TSW2 would be the last game with the hell of updating every dlc

    Kidding aside...
The numbers above do not include console, in which case TSC is showing a zero compared to anything TSW puts up. Which is a difference of ERROR 404 - INFINITY NOT FOUND if you think about it. So by that argument, TSW has more players, but the Game Pass is indeed a likely source of much of the Xbox play and it's likely seen less as a simulator and more as an arcade game.

So the better market is still on TSC. Unless TSW3 adds a lot of features from TSC, I don't predict it will be a huge difference. Both games have their strong points, though.

My concern is the upcoming American route and German route, with less content being announced i just assumed it’s because they are taking more time with bug fixes and working harder and the two new routes, those routes could be base routes to TSW3 but what about a British route? I don’t think they would make IOW 2022 a base route if they already gave a release date and price unless it’s some early access. This is just a ton of speculation but they definitely aren’t ditching TSW as it seems to be the future for DTG

For all we know TSW3 could just be the internal codename of the rebrand/refresh which normally happens around Aug (eg TSW CSXHH -> TSW, TSW -> TSW2020).

It may not be a whole new title as TSW2 was....as there is probably alot less work moving TSW2 to whatever version of UE they may be planning to move to as part of "TSW3" than it was moving to UE 4.23

Hey, that reminds me, Kelloggs just announced that they're moving their snack division (which includes Pringles and Pop Tarts, among other things) headquarters to Chicago! If they should drop any Pringles vending machines on CTA or Metra stations, I'll be sure to post a picture.

In the 4 occurances of the annual refreshes since the original CSXHH...only one has been paid, so I can completely understand your scepticism

Is three new routes enough of a reason? That said, I think you were able to "upgrade" all of your routes to TSW2 anyway.

Let me clarify what that meant. Owners of the original version of a route got the updated version of the route. Same with locos. So somehow, you'll get a free copy of everything on TSW3 again provided you own it, I'd imagine. The difference is if TSW2 itself upgrades to TSW3 in the same way TSC gets a refresh every year or sooner. Since that would remove three routes from existence, I'm going to presume this does not happen and it's a new, separate app. Therefore, as you say, incentive is required.

Then they failed to incentivize you and you will have to decide in the future whether it warrants a purchase when the next DLC you want is only available on TSW3.

No bundled TSW / TSW 2 routes get removed from existence after the refreshes. If that were the case we would not be able to purchase GWE, RT, LIRR, NTP, MSB, Pen Corridor, RSN, ECW or the 3 RH routes.

The only exception to this one of course is the old NEC NY (and its DLC) which didn't make the cut over to TSW2

I'm pretty sure this is the same as with TSC...happy to be proven wrong on that one though

If they follow the business model of TSC then it'll come with 3 routes to cater for the majority of tastes so there would always be something which should interest you. And on the off chance there isn't then you get the core update for free anyway

I don't see on earth they wouldn't follow the TSC business model as it's proven to work.

I hate to say so but I think you’re being overly optimistic here . We don’t even know if we’re getting UE5 yet , or multiplayer or VR . I wouldn’t imagine we’re getting VR yet as it usually scores very low down on surveys

Oh Lordy..:.. UE5 again..... someone at DTG please put that one to bed. Current tech can't handle it properly at the moment I'm led to believe.
Secondary to that, all the talk of preserved routes, what If they're not focused on it whatsoever as they've already found a way that moves them allover easily.

For now we don't know anything specific guys...

It might as well be an update that will transform TSW2 into TSW3, leaving what we had so far (as in the case of Train Simulator an each year updates). Hold your horses and be patient. I hope we'll get an explanation from DTG soon. :)

We know it's coming, if it wasn't, JD would have said it was a typo or used some other excuse. He didn't even use the old "if it's not on the roadmap" line.

I have a Series S but I was still advised that bot the Series S/X have crashes when getting to stations inhabited with lots of AI (Dresden/London Victoria). Surely yours does the same right?

Yes I know it's a PC discussion thread

Perhaps TSW2 will contain new content only applicable to PC and next gen consoles to streamline and 'move forward' with the times?

Dtg is just like Apple in miniature.
All reveals are held back for maximum impact while the fans and forums seethe with wild speculation.

Just wish the publicity department was fired in it’s entirety and the regular streams kept us reasonably up to date.
After the grand reveal there’s no chance for us to influence important decisions which have already been made.
As witness the red faced apology streams of the past.

Still looking forward to the next iteration.

TSC hasn't moved engine. IF TSW3 is an engine move that would be different. If it's only a codename from an incremental "improvement" then I would agree with you. Time will tell

DTG are still busy with the aftermath of the previous engine move. Some DLC still isn't up to the quality we had in TSW2020. I doubt they'd make another engine move...

Not necessarily the case. DTG have made updates since the UE v change and also added in a lot of other complex systems which have caused issues so not all the "quality issues" relate to UE changes. Some relate to the way the DTG dev cycle is, some are testing and commercial issues.

DTG are confirmed by Epic to be developing on UE5. I don’t see how you can be so confident that they aren’t with that already publicly known.
