Tees Valley Signal Blocks

Discussion in 'TSW General Discussion' started by dangerousdave, Jul 6, 2022.

  1. Are the signal blocks different to what we have today? It's like the London underground. I stopped my goods train to do one of the collectable things and a 101 smashed into the back of it.

Looking into it further ai traffic is occupying the signal block directly behind mine? I thought one block was always kept clear?

    Thanks.

No, one block isn’t normally kept clear. Sometimes in severe fog one block would be kept clear (known as ‘double block working’) because of the added risk of a SPAD, but not in normal circumstances.

This shouldn’t cause a DMU to run into the back of your train, mind you. I suppose Drivers stopping to pick up collectibles isn’t something which the real world has to contend with…

Most likely the signalling is broken in the area and the AI was signalled as "clear" even though you were obviously in block.
I would estimate that if you had cleared the distant and first signal in that block the AI was probably given a path (incorrectly)

  4. I see. But if a train was to stop in the real world for any reason... trespassers obstruction etc... and the train occupied 2 blocks, both blocks would be restricted access to any other trains I believe.

I belive you are right ARuscoe part of my train was was in the block behind me and the 101 entered that block. Maybe there is a trigger misplaced somewhere.

That's how I understand it in UK signalling anyway

Should never have happened. The moment the nose of your train entered the first block the entrance signal should have gone red (and the one behind it yellow).

The one behind should only go yellow when the rear of your train has cleared the entire block and maybe a safety overlap... is not as soon as the front of your train clears the signal. There are places where even fairly short trains can be in three blocks at once (coming up on London Bridge used to be one of them where a 12 car train could be in three signal blocks at once)

Yer right. Brain-fart on my part.

Major point stands: that collision should never have happened. Either the signaling failed, or the AI disregarded it (but without a game-over SPAD?)
