Hi friends, we are planning to bring more decals to the future of Livery Designer and are looking to pool ideas from the community for decal ideas - so share any you have below! If you like to use the livery designer frequently, think about: What you would like to see? What would be helpful shapes when creating liveries? And any other fun suggestions, we're are all ears!
More font choices with wording. Also maybe a way of just typing a word out instead of trying to line up each letter, which 99.9% doesnt help Also hashtags would be useful
Copying and pasting the comment I posted in this thread: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/livery-designer-let-there-be-fonts.36658/#post-352440 I fully agree we need more fonts. And the lack of symbols like ampersands & others is very apparent. I don't think using fonts on your own computer is likely. Especially since you can easily make all sorts of symbols (ie. logos) accessible that way. In fact there are easily downloadable fonts that just are like wingdings full of logos. Also consoles don't have installable fonts. I think it would be fine to just include more premade packs like the one that already exists. These are the types of fonts that would cover all bases: Sans-Serif (already exits in-game) - But with bold weight included. Sans-Serif Rounded - With bold weight included. Serif - With bold weight included. Slab Serif - With bold weight included. Cursive Script Handwritten Script - With bold weight included. And these are more optional but would still prove fundamentally useful to many I believe. LCD LED Stencil Art Deco
A gradient square that is made up of extremely tiny spots /splats so it can be enlarged to cover large sections of stock whilst the spots/splats remain small and to scale. Like this -
This is maybe a small one, but I really want the number "1" without those side things (e.g.: _1_) ((not sure what they are called or they even have a name)). Maybe a more silly one, but when making detailed liveries with a lot of "1", it can take a lot of layers for removed those side things. Colors of operators, not sure how it goes with licensing. (e.g.: DB red, BR Blue etc.) DTG, TSW, TSC, FSW etc. logo
With a HST maybe on the way. Intercity swallow decal Intercity 125 exec Intercity 125 BR Intercity Coaches decal (black) Intercity 125 Coaches decal (black and white) Buffet 125 Coaches decal (black and white)
One idea I do have is letting us use decals that comes with the train itself not necessarily the logo of the train because of copyright. For example the M7A is has watch the gap decals on the train but we are not able to use it. We should have that type of option with all other trains to make our liveries more realistic. Give us more signs that we see on the current rolling stock we have in game. More font options would be nice. Bolder fonts is really needed. I would say logos but that's being worked on already. If i have any other ideas i will come back to this.
I think that good idea would be adding more this type (photos) decals (i mean blank tabels). I think that adding national and regional European flags and coats of arms would be helpful too. We need as many decals logos as possible. For example more European logos like PKP, ČD, Trenitalia, NS, MÁV, ZSSK. I know that is hard to get a licence, but it would be so nice if we get more logos.
Please find a way to make it possible to input characters other than latin, really useful to create livery outside country that use english.
Shapes that would allow us to more easily make a trainbow would be very nice (thinking about the Scotrail and Thameslink ones in particular)
For the operators who are already in livery designer, let's say... Avanti West Coast. • Variants of the Logo; For example, there could be the full one, which we already have, a version which is just "Avanti West Coast" without the triangle, and one which is just the triangle. • TOC Fonts Most operators use different fonts, so a bit of variety on that front couldn't hurt Moving away from TOCs; Weathering; Just little bits of of dirt, spread out as appropriate. Maybe some options to have scratches or whatnot. Numbers; This might be a bit more technical, but an interesting feature could be a decal which allows you to recolour and resize the units number (like 3774××) or something. Anytime the livery is loaded in it is accurate to the unit it's in. Of course, it's optional. Just helps when it comes to realistic liveries.
...have some presets: specially for German trains, including passenger and freight wagons. Also two most wanted gradient decals.
Trains that are actually a metallic texture (like the M7A, Amfleet, etc.) should have an option to apply the reflective coating to it. That would allow repaints to look closer to the official liveries.
How about Network Southeast logos as found at https://www.nsers.org/route-brands.html. Also perhaps a renegotiation with First Group for use of FGW branding/logos.
I had a similar idea, but this is for whole Europe and I think that this should be blank. For example we could put PL instead of D and PKP instead of DB. If you want more info check my message where I proposed similar idea.
I’d love some TOPS numbering templates so we can more accurately create unit numbers in liveries, fits in with the more fonts suggestion above. I don’t use LD regularly but it could massively improve the quality of liveries I download
Personally would like to see the old and new era british railways logos for the steam loco's and rolling stock. Also the above mentioned range of fonts. Additionally, would be nice to be able to edit the steam loco's smoke box including the ability to add numbers.
Gotta admit I barely touched the livery designer, but I once tried to make an Ukrainian livery. I got stuck on the Ukrainian trident though. Although the straight line sections could relatively easily made with resizing squares (still a time-consuming task), I couldn't find a way to make the curved line sections of the trident. I got stuck with my with idea and gave up (since I didn't want to create a plain yellow/blue livery) So anything that helps with creating such shapes, would be nice. Or I guess include the whole coat of arms, that'd save me some time, but would be less flexible, and there's a lot of coat of arms around the globe :P
A few months ago I made a forum post on the main things I want to see get improved on livery designer. It is a bit outdated since I posted it before creator’s club’s release. I may update it at some point https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/my-wishlist-for-livery-designer-2-0.46676/
I see a lot of people requesting fonts. Please lets not forget those languages using ßpecial and oðð characters And scripts other than latin, such as cyrillic, greek, chinese, japanese just to name a few.
Logos and font types of the numbers and letters - the main ones and little ones at the side for european locomotives -, of all the train companies we already have - or coming like BNSF - on TSW2. I mean for example the BNSF logo (s), plus the numbers font used by this company.
What would help me a lot would be, having the livery editor set up for only locos and mu’s Meaning all the wagons for a loco would be paintet together with the loco, like on the MU’s. Example, is all the wagons a loco can carry should show up. For example the BR146 should show up woth the dostos set. And the BR185 would have all the cargo wagons show up. (Here ypu could have a check box so you can disable the wagons you dont want painted) when you then select the paint for the loco, it would spawn in with the proper wagons in timetable. This will make it easier to align shapes and colors for wagons, and also getting to use the painted wagons proberbly in timetable mode. One exception to this could be freight trains, as they often have many different wagons.
