When can I pre-order Train Sim World 3?

Pre-orders for the Standard and Deluxe Editions are available now on consoles. PC platforms are to follow later today. Starter Packs will be available at launch.

Can't say I'm excited. Improved weather just isn't enough for me to want to pay £30, especially when now a TSW4 in 2024 seems inevitable and the feature I was hoping for upgrades for (scenario planner) has been explicitly confirmed as remaining the same.

Looks like the specs have increased considerably for TSW3 compared to TSW2 so my PC will need an upgrade GPU which is a me problem I know.

BUT whats going to happen to the promised updates for TSW2 and bug fixes such as the BR187 and the Class 150, are these still going to happen if I decide to stay at TSW2 level and not upgrade? Or am I now stuck with a jerky stuttering mess with broken trains?

All content currently compatible with TSW2 will be available for TSW3 (there may be a delay for BKL, SKA, SPG and New Journeys, as they'd need to have their own pages set up, but we'll keep you posted).

Well only if you want 1 of the routes, if you want both the US and German route then the standard pack is required

Will cover on the Roadmap, but we still plan to release them. It may be that that they're released for TSW3 before TSW2 though.

The new lighting is very welcome, although the proof will be in the pudding. The $64,000 question, however, is does the sim now draw the detail to the horizon, or are we still losing shadows etc 1/3rd into the middle distance where everything beyond that has no shadows etc at all. It was impossible to tell from the stream, and the whole thing will be pointless if this fundamental change hasn’t been made.

The same applies to tunnels, cab occlusion, station lighting etc.

I like the touch which SOS and SEHS that was the major question I had. The lighting and weather look good! I just hope they manage to have a better launch than tsw2 did.

Also wondering how much more this will take out of the memory? Or if the dlc manager has saved enough space to help out with this?

I wonder, will the UI overhaul mean that on XBox we won't need a silly button combo to access the options like the update last year introduced?
And is there any chance the functionality might be improved so that it remembers all of our choices, like turning blur off*, between sessions?

*and for the love of my migraines, also the light adaptation nonsense

Well, the moans are already starting about the content- and I'll admit, that aspect is underwhelming: SEHS made into what it should have been at launch, only one new loco, Kassel-Würzburg long but not nearly as interesting as an Alpine route.

    HOWEVER:

The core updates appear to represent a MAJOR upgrade over the rickety TSW2.

    • Compete clean-sheet rebuild of the lighting system, into something which on stream at least looked very good indeed
    • Dynamic weather and volumetric clouds. And thunderstorms! And passengers with umbrellas.
    • A hugely more functional and more attractive UI
    • A version of TSC's Academy brought in as "Training Center", with all the training modules centralized (no more "look up, look down" whenever you fire up a new route), and this development also means (a) advanced tutorials, and (b) a move in the direction of route-independent loco DLCs
    • Direct transfer of all TSW2 DLC
    What is not yet known:
    • Will progress on legacy routes be preserved
    • Will existing user-made scenarios still work
    • Will the new sky and lighting systems work in legacy routes or not
    • Has anything been done to improve the core sound system

Looking pretty amazing to me. I won’t be able to play it for a few months but I’m certainly looking forward to it :D Finally an ICE 1 (presumably done by TSG) and another South-West US route with BNSF even (though I would have preferred something more vintage). Amazing :)

  19. To be honest I'm happy with leaving tsw2 in the past, with its achievements, scenarios etc....

All the shots on the Cajon route look

This was explicitly denied in the stream (as a caption on the TSW2 video slides).

If you own SOS, Standard Edition would be your best bet (if you wanted the 3 routes). There are Regional Starter Packs as well (details here).

Is the ES44 for Cajon the same as the HSC version?

Agree on the sounds- need to know more on this aspect.

We're testing the game across all platforms for performance, and Add-ons Manager is in beta in conjunction with these tests.

As we say with all these releases, it may be that the experience on 8th-Gen consoles is different (less layers, etc.), but we'll confirm closer to the time when testing is complete.

Which one? Because the 66 has been around since GWE, and plenty of us bought the 465 DLC.

Agreed, but unfortunately for us there still seems to be a demand for high speed routes, even though there's already a fair selection of these available. To make things worse, Kassel-Würzburg seems to be a dedicated high speed line, which makes it a one trick pony.

True, but if I'm not mistaken, these features wouldn't be directly available for our preserved collection, am I right?

Too early to judge about that TBH. They've shown a few seconds of useful new thingies, but that doesn't give us a complete picture.

Training Center is an improvement, I admit. I wouldn't conclude the tutorials will be more advanced, as TSW2 already features specialized tutorials for several trains. You don't need a Training Center for that. And route-independent locos would be nice, but that's not a TSW3 feature yet.

Considering the amount of bugs TSW2020 --> TSW2 preserved collections brought us, I'm not sure I'm totally looking forward to a TSW2 --> TSW3 transfer of our preserved collection. But at least there's no content not being preserved like our good old NEC New York - New Rochelle...

Hopefully things will be answered in the next few weeks.

As long as I still get 60fps at 1080p on my Series S when travelling away from home, I'll be happy. But I know a lot of folks who can tolerate 30fps still get a lot of out of memory crashes running it at high resolution, so I do worry about all these new features and potential additional overhead. Great work by the devs if they've made optimisations that let the new systems cost less than the old ones though.

Something I'm curious about but which was not mentioned whatsoever is, have DTG improved the efficiency of their routemaking such that we can expect these longer routes in the future, or are these one-offs for the big launch and we will return to short route DLC as usual?

    Cheers

I doubt it will be nearly the same- for one thing, it's all still UE4.26, there's no engine changeover involved.

yes, you can waste your money on spirit of steam, rest is the same.

Just looking over specs, 3070 recommended, glad the 2080ti benchmarks marginally higher if geekbench correct. Might scrape through this on ultra settings again just.

Proper excited they’ve finally cracked extensions. I smell ECML next year

Yes, really would be good to know if we're going to continue to get the out-of-memory errors on Series S before deciding to purchase TSW 3. Would be great if we could see some streams before release using the Xbox Series S, please :)

Well one of my wishes came true at least! I'm disappointed they chose SEHS and not the more requested GWE to upgrade, but it was the logical decision if they didn't want to make new trains.

Another options query - any word on a potential native 1440p "balanced" mode on Series S / "performance" mode on Series X/PS5 as more other titles have added this console generation?

m9yWgzZY9GJO0kPbZlVAo1JghN-dncoM3Q.png I don't understand why they haven't created a package for those of us who have SEHS and SOS, which only includes the German and US routes. With the standard edition we are forced to buy SEHS again. So why do they say we will get a free upgrade if we have to buy it?
Another option for us would be to buy the US starter pack and German starter pack editions, but it is even more expensive!
In my point of view it's quite unfair. Does anyone see any logic here?
