This line would include the PDL (Portsmouth Direct Line) And it would also include the slow lines which goes via Basingstoke The rolling stock this route will include are: Class 450 coming in 4,8 and 12 car lengths And the class 444 coming in 5 and 10 car lengths The class 450 usually does the slow lines whereas the 444 doing the fast lines stations of interest on the line include Portsmouth harbour Winchester Basingstoke Woking Clapham Junction
Personally the only thing which would sway me slightly to even consider buying another southern English 3rd rail route would be if it had slam doors, so for me it would have to be set a few decades ago.
It's quite long; Portsmouth Harbour to London Waterloo via Guildford is near 80 miles with lots of stations and complex scenery approaching London. You'll probably need the Class 455 too for the metro services nearer London, otherwise that area would be far quieter. Adding in the route via the South West Main Line to Basingstoke, Winchester and Eastleigh on top of all this is probably far too ambitious, but I'm happy to be proved wrong
100% agree. Even if the SWT stuff is slightly different from the current Electrostars any new third rail route needs to be retro. Obvious choice for the Pompey Line is going to be 4CIG/BIG but also 4VEP for the stoppers and maybe even some EPB’s for the London area suburban services.
