This is quite a long route which I understand, with both Freight and Passenger services, with several different train operators from LNER (London North Eastern Railway), Thameslink, EMR (East Midlands Railway), DB (Deutsche Bahn), Freightliner (I can remember seeing both companies coming through the town I live in), and Royal Mail, providing a wide variety of Locomotives and stations from 2 complete routes following both the East Coast Mainline out of Kings Cross (LNER) and St. Pancras International (Thameslink), as well as services from Peterborough to Lincoln via The Red Wing Line. Train sets you can expect on this line include the following: Class 66 Class 156 Class 325 Class 700 Class 800
Very ambitious. Personally I would do the them as two separate routes with the ECML including the 225s with the Azumas and layer the BML 387s for GN services along with the 700s. East Coast Mainline out of Kings Cross. Not sure where your from but I along the ECML about 15 miles north of Peterborough and there are a lot of GBRF operations around here on both the ECML and Redwing line so would be a must for both of these routes.
Yeah, I'll have to properly check what freight traffic does come around where I live, which is along the Redwing line. Sometimes we do get a visit from the Flying Scotsman
route length is 100 mi 160 km shorter than Kassel-Wurzburg by 15 mi 25 km. If broken down 76 mi King's Cross to Peterborough and 24 miles from Peterborough to Lincoln.
Thanks for telling me about that and if added to the 76 miles ECML South Peterborough Kings Cross you get a 126 mi 200 km route surpassing Kassel Wurzburg by 24 km 15mi. Via red wing line it's 24 miles therefore Kassel Wurzburg still wins by 26km Since ECML South with Redwing line is 160 km.
I'm suggesting adding both since I'm crazy enough, East Coat Main Line with The Redwing Line, via both Kings Cross and St. Pancras International, so end result is you will probably have a line closer to 240-250km, though best way to handle it would be add each section as part of 2 DLCs, ECML and The Redwing Line from Lincoln to Peterborough and ECML line to Kings Cross with connection to St. Pancras International.
After deeper research I can confirm that from Peterborough to Lincoln is exactly 54 miles and 64 chains by rail not 24 miles.
Do you know what the source or sources are? I do know there is like a bypass at Sleaford to allow Freight and Passenger services to run without impeding each other.
Rail miles is a good source but also just the fact that I know that as the crow flies the distance from Peterborough to Lincoln is just over 45 miles so a railway connecting the two places could not be 24 miles long.
Now we know longer routes are possible I'd love to see the ECML (modern era) made at least from London to Peterborough and if possible extended further. Or Edinburgh to Newcastle could work too, but me personally any modern-era ECML would be amazing to see
