In the last three houses I've lived at, I've never achieved better than 8.9MB/s so I assume it's Steam? I'm in the UK in case that matters.

  2. I'm on 5g if I test the speed late at night I get just over 1gbps ?

I normally get 8Mb/s maximum when downloading from Steam, even though we’re on BT Broadband top package.

Steam reports MB/s by default (megaBYTES) whereas speed tests usually measure in megaBITS.

    MB/s = MegaBytes per second
    Mb/s = Megabits per second

There are 8 bits in a Byte, so the Byte number will appear smaller. Steam's servers are fine.

    Cheers

I've noticed when you are in the rain on SOS and you rotate the camera (8 cam) the rain disappears.

I’m impressed with the detail although I’ve only played training centre so far, trying to teach my lad the basics as a six year old… this is a much improved interface for the beginner

I've just logged in and it didn't ask me to import my profile, have others had this issue?

Motion blur off actually looks more true to reality to my eyes, with the motion blur smooshing the fence posts you pass all together into a smear, rather than looking like a flipbook as it does to my eyes when going past.

If your ISP notices high demand for files they will download them to their servers and you will have full speed ( whatever that is ), it pays to go with a popular ISP as chances are they will have more users after the same files.

Just fired mine up the first time then and It asked me did I want to merge my profile. It also said I can merge further profiles under my profile so I don't know if anyone else can retrieve their TSW2 one that way.

Overall the lighting is way better, very noticeable even on a rainy, cloudy day.

It won’t be just that. I did an ICE 1 service in clear weather and that was limited to 250 all the way. There must be another reason for it on the one I did.

Just drove Faversham - St. Pancras on the first service up in the morning and just wow. Sky started off a deep purple through heavy clouds, got some showers, clouds turned pink as the sun started to rise and had golden sunshine from Hoo all the way to Stp. Very impressed. A lot of new buildings modelled on SEHS, very impressed so far. The only niggle I've found so far is when the lighting is a bit low sometimes the cab window will flash green/white sporadically but as soon as the sun was up it disappeared.

OK. This is the best TSW version to date, no doubt.

Long and expected list of technical flaws overshadowed by introduced very good changes, mainly graphical changes. The lighting, especially at night, is impressive. Cajon Pass looks and feels just epic after dark. This deserves a longer review, but for me a definite positive on Steam, despite the flaws. One note about lighting: for me, it is too bright overall. A standard low-end display does have not proper enough parameters (eg contrast) to handle such color settings. But still, this is a big improvement. I do not feel right being nice, but yeah good job this time, DTG :D Mandatory purchase. Happy. Relief.

But I have to say I'm impressed so far, though I've only played a short time.

Must admit, MP's latest post was more encouraging. They do seem to be attacking the problem head on. He thinks weeks rather than months. So, maybe we give them a little space - a few weeks?

I caved too if only to test Cajon (my primary interest) and, well, the initial impression is that it doesn't disappoint. The GEVO prime mover sounds are not thumpy enough for my taste but the cab rattle sounds were an unexpected and welcome addition. I think I'll keep it for this route alone.

I did turn up the shadow settings with the .ini and it looks pretty darn good (if not killing my GPU). A lot of objects now cast shadow that did not used to, like cars driving on the road, which helps make things feel more alive.

The dynamic weather seems to be behaving itself more since I put this particular route in August. I started with light clouds, and about 20 minutes later it thickened a bit and started to rain lightly, and about another 20 minutes later the clouds have lightened up again. It felt a bit more reasonable as I'm traversing the mountainous part of Cajon.

    Cheers

I think so too. It will be tomorrow now before I can play as the download has another 45 minutes yet.
Everyone must think I am mad - whinge, order, cancel (along with a chiding from Steam), whinge a bit more then rebuy. But that’s the nature of the beast.
So amusing myself with a bit of Donner in Run 8 for this evening, no point doing anything in TSW2 which will be uninstalled once I get my profile across.

After these changes, the picture seems clearer. They must have changed the angle of view from the cabin as well. It seems wider and a bit further from the front window. Everything looks better. The perspective is more human.

    Cool pics, Callum B

Yes same here. I think we heard that some ICE 1 were limited to 250 and some to 280 on stream a few weeks ago, I just can't recall if they gave a reason why back then.

I carried over the performance tweaks from geloxo to reduce stuttering (still testing if that works), increased draw distance of scenery, foliage, and shadows a bit, slightly tweaked TAA to flicker less (at least at my resolution), set MaterialQualityLevel to 0 to extend grass rendering distance, and enabled Nvidia PCSS for dynamic shadow softness (shadows get softer further away from the source). :)

SKW is the one I'm least impressed with at the moment. I briefly tried the ICE Breaker scenario and it sort of confirms my worry that the route would feel like LGV in that there is little to do but set cruise control and let 'er rip. I still need to try the freight services but with straight track, AFB, and tunnels galore I can't see it being terribly interesting... this coming from someone who primarily enjoys and drives the German routes.
I have yet to touch SEHS but that seems far more varied and replayable.

    Cheers

  36. Does the 2 hour refund limit start from when I start playing or is it from official release?

    On steam.

I hope DTG can fix this. They did ask people on the forum a while back for people to post in ways for the game to include ways to help people that have problems but to me it seemed like a PR exercise.

It is encouraging to hear good things about the lighting. I still haven't caved but could someone tell me if they have tried a night time route in say SEHS about midnight or say 1.00AM and say about the station lighting and if it was an improvement on TSW2?

I can confirm that motion blur is toggleable on the Steam version, both via the settings menu and the keyboard shortcut.

Cajon Pass feels like what Sherman Hill wanted to be. Except it is much better. Looking at screenshots of the two side-by-side is almost unfair.
Yes I know Sherman Hill is a plains route but the scenery quality is still laughable in comparison to my screenshots above.

Edit: the Javelin sounds are also greatly improved. The cab had a good amount of rattles and noise at speed.

I've only played SKW so far, but liked it a lot. I have to say that the frame rates are about 2/3 those of HMA (down to ~20fps at 4K ultra, except in the many tunnels ;)), but then the scenery is much more detailed. I think I may have to save up for a new PC.

Updated - I was running in default mode, so no DX12. Will try again tomorrow :)

  47. I really don't know what to say about it. I'm playing in 4k everything on ultra, screen 150% on sehs getting around 30fps but it looks terrible! Tracks popping in right in front of me, distant scenery looks appalling, snow has like a grain effect everytime the wipers move or the wind blows. The list goes on. Compared to tsw2 it's not looking good at all. 100 times worse infact. At one point I thought I was playing train sim classic?

This is really strange. I am playing 1920x1080 and this is not even close to TSW 2, it is so much better now in terms of image quality. Strange.

  49. I really wish I was at the office with the hd monitor because 4k isn't doing it any justice.

I think they said that it depends on wind speed as well (higher wind speeds = lower max speed for safety).
